Blir spennende!

Leicester har seks kamper siden 29.mars, Southampton sju… Vil dét ha noe å si?

Graham Smyth oppsummerer denne kampen fint, syns eg. Nervene lå tjukt utenpå både publikum og spillere, alle visste at i realiteten var bare seier godt nok:
That's what the last three games at Middlebrough, Queens Park Rangers and at home to Southampton had to offer - so long as a result or two went their way elsewhere - automatic promotion, a chance to be known as a top flight club once again, an opportunity to be remembered forever as too good for the Championship.

The first of the last, at the Riverside, was a gateway. Win it and Leeds could bounce down to London on Friday night with confidence renewed and momentum back on their side. Lose it and you might as well start preparing for the play-offs now. The nerves were palpable among the players, said Daniel Farke, never mind the fans

https://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/sport/football/leeds-united/leeds-uniteds-early-play-off-insight-and-rutter-argument-graham-smyths-middlesbrough-verdict-4601429

I går følte Firpo for å kaste opp underveis:

Leeds United full-back Junior Firpo says he nearly threw up on the pitch during the second half of Leeds' 4-3 win over Middlesbrough on Monday night but completed 90 minutes at the Riverside Stadium despite feeling under the weather.
...
The 27-year-old revealed at full-time he had been suffering with a fever over the weekend and was not the only member of the squad not quite feeling 100 per cent.
...
"I've been with a fever [for] three days, I've been ill today, a few lads were feeling the same, we have a little bit illness in the squad," Firpo added. "This shows how important it is to be ready, everyone was ready. Everyone was living everything, including myself, including Jaidon [Anthony] who was ill.

"As I say a few lads were ill, including myself, I was about to throw up in the second half. It was tough."

Får håpe de er bedre innen fredag!
...
Så, om pausepraten:
"When we came in at half-time we said that we will defend with a low block and we will take advantage of the counter-attack, we are the better team doing the counter-attacks," the defender told reporters at full-time. "We have a lot of pace, we have really good players up front, when you have those guys up front I think it's a really, really good advantage."
...
This change in tack represented flexibility on Farke's part given the German’s preference for his side to be protagonists in games, as well as the team's durability to withstand pressure, defend resolutely and 'suffer' as centre-forward Bamford put it in a post-match interview.

"We want to stick to our beliefs and processes but we said at half-time, the way Middlesbrough were playing that it was going to be tough and we've got to suffer a bit and to be patient and kind of enjoy the suffering a bit, make sure we're compact. We know we're a good counter-attacking team, and we'll get chances," the 30-year-old said, having ended a six-match drought in front of goal by scoring against his former employers.

Northern Ireland under-21s winger Charlie Allen left Leeds to join York City on a short-term loan deal in February and bagged four appearances for the Minstermen in the National League.

6 min tillegg? Her må noen ha sovnet.

Nyttig for da forblir Everton under oss påtabellen.

 Leeds United U21
Team news
Christy (GK), Sutcliffe (C), Moore, Coleman, Cresswell, Debayo, Snowdon, Crew, Thomas, Chambers, Allen.

Subs: van den Heuvel (GK), Chadwick, Cline, Monteiro, Ferguson.
Flott Hallgeir. Denne kampen kom brått på meg 🫢
Charlie Allen tilbake fra utlån altså
Ellers blir Alfie Cresswell testet i nye posisjoner for tiden.
Feilinformert her.

Her er den off.sidens kamprapport.

Farke on finances
We have conversations in the background on what is possible and not possible, this is not for the public. My topic is football, I love to speak about football. I’m not an accountant, I’ve also got an economic background a little bit, I understand the background, when we have conversations I understand what is necessary. I believe the club is in top class hands. I think we’re definitely on the right path. I’m sure we’ll have a really good future. Perhaps we will not be the club who’s capable to spend the biggest money, not in the Premier League or Championship. I don’t want to be successful just because I can buy the best players, I want the processes to be the right way. Your life is easier as a manager when you can bring quality in. I will be insistent on giving us the best possible squad. If it’s not possible, I’ll not be asking for miracles. This club does not rely on one player or spending loads of money. We want to build something with sustainability, as long as I’m here we’ll work exactly in this way.

Farke continued
I invite everyone to be a believer it’s more fun than being a moaner. We go for it anyway.

Her må eg bare ta selvkritikk.

Faktisk!

📊 Every time #LUFC have lost this season, they've had more possession than their opponent. On the other hand, Leeds are unbeaten when they've had less of the ball than the opposition (P5, W4, D1).

3️⃣ That's good news for their remaining fixtures.

Some of those thousands of managers that you mentioned have made a talking point of your substitutions and the timing of them. When you look back at this season, have you ever second guessed or analysed a decision to substitute or not to and felt you should have done it differently? Or is it impossible? Because you don't know what the player would have done?

"After each and every game you analyze what we have done, also pretty self critical what we as a coaching staff or me as a manager could have done better. But the second topic is also right, you never know. So it's impossible to judge because you never know if you would have played a game, for example, the last game with a completely different lineup or you substitute earlier or you substitute not at all. You never know, if a different striker would have perhaps scored or if I should have let Patrick Bamford longer on the pitch because he would have scored in the last minute or whatever or you should have changed the base formation. You never know. It's also why we love the sport that much because everyone can have an opinion. But for me it's just important that I totally trust my players and my group of players otherwise we wouldn't share for example that many goals. Yes, if someone thinks we should be there  with better decisions, I can't argue against this because I can't prove the difference. Like I mentioned before I like to stay humble and also to stay self critical and I don't want to put myself into the spotlight. But staying humble, I love the statistics, I think I was nominated three times right now and won three times the manager of the month. I am nominated for manager of the season, we are playing the best season in the history of this club. We have the best defensive record, we have the best home record in the league, we have the best home record in the history of Leeds United Football Club. We are there with 87 points after 42 games, we have shared many many goals, we have the best goal difference. We have still the chance to play the perfect season. It could be that it's perhaps because of me that we are not there even better in the table and are already promoted. It could be, I can't argue against this because I can't prove it a different way round. But one thing is also for sure, although I try to analyze each and every game and I also like to be self critical, if I am allowed to say this in a humble way, I am also not too nervous or too critical about our season so far. The most important topic is I totally trust and back my players and I also managed the season out of this league also a few times and you have a gut feeling and the gut feeling right now is we are out to create something special in the last games and the gut feeling is that we are allowed also to look back on the season and speak about it being quite a successful season. It's just the gut feeling I have and we will see what the outcome is.”

Tror Donnohue tar det på kornet her mht Coventry:
It’s's exactly the sort of game you'd have expected from Coventry. They're tough, organised and carry a physical threat up top. Leeds will be kicking themselves at the manner in which they conceded because it's a very nil-nilly game you can see being decided by fine margins. #lufc

Norwich City – Ipswich Town
Kampstart: 13.30

...

Vurdering: Dette blir galskap!
Tips: Borteseier

Leicester City – Birmingham CIty
Kampstart: 16.00

Hjemmeseier.
Tips: Hjemmeseier

Coventry City – Leeds United
Kampstart: 16.00

His under-18 side played out an entertaining, rain-soaked 4-3 victory over Millwall to book their place in the final, which has to be played before the end of May 4. If that day rings a bell for non-Star Wars-related reasons, it will be because it’s the final day of the Championship season.

Leeds host Southampton in what is shaping up to be an almighty day of destiny in the second tier for the Whites as they chase promotion. While that day is pencilled in for the Youth Cup final, it is highly likely to be played before that date.

Etherington wants it moved so his under-18s can fully focus without any distractions, but also feel even more of the pressure of a final. Manchester City will be the hosts in the showdown and given how many supporters turned out last night, it seems unlikely their academy will be big enough to meet the demand for tickets.

“Speaking for myself, I think the club would back it (a fixture date change),” he said. “We want as much focus and as much pressure on the players as possible. So if we could avoid that day, we probably could do that.”

He added: “We could fill the Etihad, to be honest, so they might even need a bigger stadium than that. It's what separates us from every other club and every other academy. Ten-and-a-half thousand here is something we're all really proud of.

“We're so proud to work and to play and represent this football club, so yes, if it was at the Etihad we’d probably fill it.”

Aside from the logistics and excitement of a prestigious cup final Leeds will contest for the first time since 1997, there was a brief injury scare at Elland Road on Thursday. As new as he may be to the senior set-up, Charlie Crew is not someone Daniel Farke would like to see ruled out of his matchday squad right now.

The 17-year-old started Thursday’s game and shone in his best moments as United’s chief dictator in the middle, even capping his performance with a first-half goal. However, Crew would not finish the game.

Inside the final five minutes of normal time, Crew was clattered and stayed down on the turf afterwards. He was asking for his team-mates to put the ball out in order to receive some treatment.

However, they played on and the Wales youth international had to get back to his feet, trying to walk the pain off, but it was clear he couldn’t. Crew could barely walk and when the ball did go dead, he went to ground and was soon limping off to be replaced.

Etherington, who praised Crew’s character and suggested his inclusion was never in doubt despite his recent ascension, was hopeful it was nothing more than tired legs for the teenager rather than anything more sinister.

“He’s a top young person, he’s a top player,” he said. “Everybody at the club on an occasion like this wants our best players, our best academy players, to play on that stage and there was certainly no real conversations about that (Crew being pulled out).

“For him to come out and try to be the best player on the pitch, for him and where he's at, is perfect experience and exposure for him.”

Asked if Crew was okay, the head coach said: “Yeah, I think he's just got some tired legs, but he's not the only one.”

Brilliantly gritty performance against a good Millwall side. Just about dried out now. I assume they’ll change the date of the final given City play Wolves at home that day and it’s our last game against Soton.
