RYAN EDMONDSON: THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY
Young Leeds United forward Ryan Edmondson has expressed his happiness at signing for his boyhood club.
The 16-year-old completed a move to Elland Road from Vanarama National League North side York City on Wednesday for an undisclosed fee.
Edmondson spoke exclusively to
www.leedsunited.com about completing the transfer.
“I’ve been a fan of the club ever since being a kid and this is a great opportunity for me,†said Edmondson.
“Leeds have great facilities, staff and coaching, which will hopefully help me progress and make a career out of the game.
“It was a great experience for me personally to play in the first team at York City, I got that status under my belt that I’d played professionally for a first team.
“I’m thankful to York for giving me that opportunity, the gaffer Martin Gray had faith in me after training with the first team and it was a massive step for me in progression and confidence.
“For me it was a big surprise, I remember being sat on the bench and going for a warm-up, before being called over, my heart was going, but as a 16-year-old playing in the first team, it was always going to be like that.â€
The Whites beat off a number of other clubs to complete the signing of Edmondson and the forward explained why he chose Leeds.
He said: “Obviously it is good to have a lot of clubs looking at you and it gives you that confidence that you have something about your game.
“For me though, personally, Leeds is such a big club to me emotionally, we are a Championship club and on the up.
“The infrastructure is amazing, everything here is going to help me progress and hopefully in a few years time I will be able to get out on the pitch at Elland Road in the first team.
“I’ve met a few of the lads and there is a good group here, everyone has been welcoming and there is a lot of talent here, which will make me step up by game even more.
“Leeds has reputation for bringing players through from the Academy to the first team and it shows there is a progression stage here.
“Hopefully during my time here I can show the staff that I am worth that.â€
