LUFC Released defender hangs up his bootsAdam Drury has retired from professional football after failing to find a new club following his release by Leeds United in the summer.
Drury announced on his Facebook page that he had decided to call time on a career that saw him make 569 appearances during an 18-year career. Drury started out at Peterborough United before an 11-year association with Norwich City, where he was a cult hero that was ended when he joined Leeds under Neil Warnock in 2012 on a free transfer.
The full back stated, 'After 18 years living my childhood dream of being a professional footballer the time has come to call it a day and retire,' he said.
'I have to say a massive thank-you to the clubs, staff and fans that I have been lucky enough to play for and in front of. It has been a privilege.
'Also a big thanks to all the team-mates that I have met along the way, many of whom I now call friends.'
He added: 'It has been a fantastic journey and it would not have been possible without the support of my family and best friends who have been there with me through the many ups and downs that football brings. A special mention goes to Hel and the kids who have helped all my dreams come true and so much more.
'It has been a magical journey so far and as one door closes another opens. Let the new adventures begin!'
The 36-year-old was released by Leeds after two seasons at Elland Road where he made just 18 appearances and he spent the final two months of last season on loan at Bradford City.
