Steve Morison – Could he be vital this season?
Posted by LeedsAllOver
Steve Morison, I hated him more than most people in recent times. He’s scored goals before, including many against us, he’s scored a few in the Premier League for Norwich and then he came here and looked like he didn’t care at all. Watching Steve Morison also brought back the pain of losing Luciano Becchio to Norwich, it still hurts. Morison showed glimpses, at home to Blackpool and away to Crystal Palace. Yet he never reached the heights of his time at Millwall, the first time anyway.
This season though given our lack of options upfront, good ones anyway, he may be used quite a lot. I love Matt Smith but it seems he may be behind Morison in the pecking-order now. Morison has scored 2 goals in pre-season, that obviously doesn’t mean much but it may have given him some much-needed confidence. The fans have been against him for quite a while, he got booed as he came off away at Chesterfield. However it was slightly difference at Elland Road when we played Dundee United. Morison ran back to the edge of his own box from the other half to make a tackle and the Kop showed its appreciation, it may not seem much but given the levels of abuse he has received it’s a big step. A lot can change in a very short amount of time in football and if he manages to get a few early goals this season, especially at Millwall away, he could change the fans opinion of him.
I personally hope that we sign at least another striker, preferably one with pace, yet with what we currently have, I would play Morison at the moment. Doukara looks like a very skilful player with pace to get by other players, hopefully he can create a good partnership with Steve.
