London law firm sues Leeds United

Written by: Charlie Firth | Comments (0)

London law firm Mishcon de Reya is suing Championship side Leeds United for£150,000, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

A London law firm are suing Leeds United for £150,000
The firm say that Leeds are yet to pay up for services provided during 2014 and have started legal proceedings against the West Yorkshire side. The club are yet to make a comment on the situation.

The London firm helped owner Massimo Cellino in his successful appeal last year against the Football League, who tried to prevent him from buying the Whites.

A statement from the firm said: “I can confirm Mishcon de Reya are suing Leeds United for unpaid fees.”

They also helped United slash their monthly spending in May of last year, cutting the £1 million-a-month losses by setting in motion a redundancy strategy.

Leeds meanwhile are hoping to gun for promotion this season, after owner Massimo Cellino revealed that he wants to be in the Premier League within the next two years.

Kjenner at jeg ikke er så veldig bekymra for dette etter ansettelsen av Pearson og co. Kompetanse nok til å styre uten Cellino. Var vel muligens derfor han ble ansatt?

Told no comment from Football League re Cellino Range Rover conviction until formal documentation from case is viewed #lufc

Rene spekulasjoner. Cellino

LUFC Cellino future at Leeds in doubt once again

Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino could face a fresh ban from the Football League after being found guilty once again for tax evasion.

Cellino has been reportedly fined €40,000 in an Italian court for failing to pay tax on a Range Rover car that he imported into Italy.

the Italian has only recently returned to his role at Elland Road after failing the Football League's Owners and directors test after being found guilty of tax evasion in an Italian Court for tax evasion on a boat that he took into Italian waters.

The Football League are now expected to investigate the case, which will once again put the 58-year-olds future at Elland Road in doubt.

Cellino has been working hard since his return to Elland Road and he has brought in experienced owner Adam Pearson as an executive director and he would be the likely replacement for Cellino if he is banned by the Football League once again.

Leeds United: Pearson is building backing for Whites

Adam Pearson
08:34Monday 22 June 2015   21:35Sunday 21 June 2015

LEEDS UNITED executive director Adam Pearson is confident that the club will be able to announce more significant commercial deals in the near future following the arrival of Kappa as the club’s kit provider for the next five years.

The deal with the Italian sportswear giant was announced last Tuesday afternoon and Pearson is now working hard behind the scenes to secure more key partnerships with businesses wanting to come on board with Leeds United.

On the likelihood of further sizeable commercial deals transpiring, Pearson added: “We have a whole host of them. Obviously, Kappa is our key partner and with the club sponsor, they are the new main partners we have to get right for the next five years.

“But we are still actively trying to put a partnership programme together and have six to eight key sponsors in different sectors to hang off the two main sponsors.

“There are some interesting deals coming to the table, for sure.

“We have got a lot to do on the commercial side and a lot of partnerships to put in place. But to be fair, they are starting to appear on the table. We have just got to make them big enough to be acceptable to the owner.”

Specifically on the Kappa deal, he continued: “It is about the right length of time for us.

“If you can have the shirt sponsor in place for a long time, it underpins your commercial activity and, hopefully, your partnership deals in other sectors can be a bit shorter to maximise the revenues.

“The owner’s relationship in Italy has been beneficial as has Kappa’s enthusiasm to get back in the UK market. It’s quite an opportune match.”

Meanwhile, reports in the north-east have suggested that Sunderland will target a move for Leeds United defender Sam Byram if they lose out to West Ham in their quest to sign Arsenal full-back carl Jenkinson on loan.

The Wearsiders have agreed a £2.5m deal with the Gunners to take Jenkinson on loan for next season, with the 23-year-old to consider his future after ending his England commitments at the European Under-21 Championships in the Czech Republic.

Jenkinson spent last season on loan at Upton Park and the Hammers are keen on re-signing the player, according to co-chairman David Gold. He commented: “We know we need a right-back and will work tirelessly to bring in Carl.

“If that does not work out, we have other irons in the fire.

“We said to Slaven (Bilic) ‘get your priority list and let’s see what we can do’.”

If the Hammers do pip Sunderland for Jenkinson’s services, the north-east outfit are likely to set their sights on Byram, who has been on their radar for the last year.

A £5m fee has been mooted for Byram, with Sunderland in the market for at least one new full-back, with the departure of out-of-contract Anthony Reveillere leaving Billy Jones and Patrick van Aanholt as the two specialists in that department.

United rejected a £4.5m bid for Byram, who has a year left on his Elland Road deal last August from Southampton.

Several other sides are keeping tabs on Byram.

Leeds players return to pre-season training a week today when the club’s new head coach, Uwe Rosler, will meet his charges for the first time at Thorp Arch.

Opinion: Is Massimo Cellino finally getting it right at Leeds United?

Date: 20th July 2015 at 7:25 pm
Written by: Jon Corr | Comments (3)

Football News 24/7
Don’t say it loudly but are Leeds United finally getting things right on and off the field?

Is Cellino getting it right?
Colourful owner Massimo Cellino had a turbulent first season in charge of the fallen Yorkshire club, having secured a takeover back in April 2014.

This time last season Cellino added a new head of recruitment (Nicola Salerno), a manager most people hadn’t heard of (David Hockaday), 15 new players pre-season most of which were completely new to English football; it would either prove a master stroke or a recipe for disaster, any guesses for what happened next?

Bing, bing, bing! we have a winner! a complete and utter horses turd of a disaster, pretty normal for Leeds United a club used to things not going their way.

By the end of August, Hockaday had been sacked and the rest of the season continued as a circus, from further manager and assistant manager sackings, quite apt for a man nicknamed the ‘manager eater’ in Italy, to himself (Cellino) being banned from ownership for non-payment of tax on a yacht in Italy and let us not forget the ridiculous mystery player strike (that continues to be denied to this day) ahead of a clash away at Charlton, Leeds fans could be forgiven for throwing the towel on a truly forgettable season.

Cellino returned to the club in May 2015 and the frustrated Leeds fans pointed the finger at him, were Leeds set for another mad pre-season?

So far no… Cellino is now Chairman rather than President, Adam Pearson has been added as Executive Director, Uwe Rosler a new manager with a decent track record as well as a backroom staff with bags of Championship experience.

What’s so special about that I hear you ask? Well for Leeds United its a massive step in the right direction, the club can finally see light at the end of the tunnel and with highly-rated youngsters in the team including Sam Byram, Charlie Taylor, Lewis Cook and Alex Mowatt, all of which have the sharks of the top flight circling ready to snaffle at the first opportunity, as well as the additions of Lee Erwin (young striker rated highly at Motherwell), Sol Bamba, Chris Wood, it’s very easy to see why many Leeds United fans are beginning to have a hint of optimism about the forthcoming season.

Cellino appears to be taking a different approach this season, a more British approach rather than the continental of last season.

It all seems a little too good to be true, and never the one to put a dampener on things but there is still a little matter of Cellino being investigated again (yawn) by the Football League regarding non-payment of tax on a Ranger Rover in Italy, sound familiar?

As well as the club being investigated for the Ross McCormack sale and the third party ownership of Brazilian playmaker Adryan, god only knows what happened with him… Oh and then there’s the failure to pay Cameron Stewart £800,000 for cancellation of his contract leading the PFA to call for a transfer embargo… All of which most clubs would be hugely worried about, but Leeds United aren’t most clubs and believe me the current positive out weight the negatives.
But hey I did say don’t say it too loudly didn’t I…

The reason is, is that Red Bull have nearly taken over and Cellino wont be there next season, thats why Salernos gone and Bambas stayed, why weve got a german speaking manager, a pre season match not in Italy but in Salzburg 20 mins from Red Bull head office, thats why we aint got a shirt sponsor yet cos Enterprise Insurance are hanging out for big money from Red Bull cos they know theyve got it. Adam Pearson has been put in by Red Bull to oversee the takeover, and Cellino never spends 3million on one player, never never never, thats because its Red Bulls money. It seems obvious but i reckon its true.

total red bullsh*te…..

So Celino will be pumping in millions of pounds and then just walk away…..

You obviously aren’t following very closely are you?

The minute Red Bull sh*te takes over Leeds United and imposes their ‘brand’ on the team will be like Armageddon, there will not be a supporter left in the ground who will follow any team wearing red…….

Leeds United: Cellino is due credit for taking back seat

Massimo Cellino.

published 10:00 Thursday 06 August 2015

Joined up thinking has been key to Uwe Rosler’s pre-season and will be key come the campaign. Phil Hay reports.

At the end of a neat and tidy close season they will ask where Massimo Cellino’s critics have gone. What happened to the people who spent last year questioning whether Leeds United’s owner could ever hold it together?

The truth is that they are still out there and present in numbers but only the churlish would deny Cellino credit where credit is due. In and amongst a few awkward moments, the sea-change at Elland Road this summer has been the equivalent of someone flicking a switch. Cellino seems calmer and so do the club. The new season starts with the sense that Leeds saw it coming.

The past three months have been everything that the close season of 2014 was not and an answer to much of what incited criticism of Cellino: the appointment of a credible head coach with a backroom team extending beyond an assistant from Hendon; logical recruitment in specific areas of the squad, not least the signing of a genuine winger; and the employment of a de facto chief executive who knows the club, knows the workings of English football and knows how to do his job without having to learn on it. Even the new kit is popular.

Cellino has long required boardroom support but the Italian could not bring himself to yield authority last season, or not until the Football League ordered him to take a sabbatical. “I don’t need a chief executive,” he used to say. “I’m the chief executive here.” Yet last month, at the launch of the club’s home kit, he admitted that the delegation of duties to Pearson, the former owner of Hull City, had done him good. He looked relaxed and said he was “happy”. This from a man who never says that.

Leeds have still endured the odd Cellino saga, as if to remind the world that he has a certain style about him. His Apocalypse Now press conference in May – marking the end of his ownership ban – left some of those closest to him shaking their heads and questioning their own sanity in working for him. The demise of Neil Redfearn was ugly and poisonous and is likely to cost the club money. Legal cases at Elland Road are still stacked to the ceiling but crises appear more isolated and Cellino no longer talks of a club who were “in the s**t” – his own words – ad nauseam last season.

Attention, too, is less fixated on him. Incessant rumours of takeovers and investment have died down and even his recent conviction for tax evasion in Italy looks less problematic than his last. The Football League is yet to receive the paperwork from his case in Cagliari but the general view is that the penalty imposed on him for failing to pay tax on an imported Range Rover might not be severe enough to merit another disqualification. Other cases await him, naturally, but United’s owner is barely the image of a man besieged. His confidence shows in a more purposeful club.

The choice of Uwe Rosler as United’s head coach also helped to create that impression. The German is neither the illogical punt that Dave Hockaday was nor the stab in the dark that Darko Milanic became. Redfearn had widespread support as head coach, including from this newspaper, but by the time Cellino took the job from him the bad blood between them and the factions in United’s dressing room made a change inevitable. Redfearn could see the writing on the wall from the start of April onwards.

Sol Bamba talks in today’s YEP about Rosler installing “new rules” at Thorp Arch, conceding that stricter discipline is needed. The defender speaks as someone who backed Redfearn quite openly last season. Rosler has the reputation of a disciplinarian but it might be fairer to say that the German is a coach who likes to keep control. He and his coaching staff of Rob Kelly, Julian Darby and Richard Hartis are a close, insular and meticulous group. Rosler’s organisation was seen in a pre-season programme which held together even after Athletic Bilbao pulled out of a friendly in Austria at short notice.

Pre-season 12 months ago was an unmitigated shambles. During a week in Italy, United were unable to muster anything more meaningful than a meeting with a village team and a friendly against a Romanian club who failed to turn up. Between that and pictures of players sitting in a gushing river – a substitute for ice baths – Hockaday’s reputation had no chance. Rosler was so on top of his summer that after two days of testing players at Thorp Arch he rewrote his schedule and factored in additional conditioning sessions. “It had to be done,” the 46-year-old said, “but it wasn’t a problem.” Cellino has not been a problem either.

It tempts you to think that this season could be different; that Rosler could reach the end of it without falling foul of rash decisions from above and that Leeds will be prepared for a division which found them out during the first half of last season. There is no effort on the part of anyone at United to pretend that their squad has been spectacularly upgraded or injected with the sort of money that Middlesbrough are trying to spend but with a winger in the building at last, Rosler sounds satisfied. The absence of width and a lack of depth in wide areas – cover for Sam Byram, for example – was precisely where his resources fell short.

Rosler, at the same time, found a goalscorer in Chris Wood and a focal point for his preferred formation. That transfer depended entirely on Cellino pushing the button at short notice. He has a youthful group of players who he can mould in his image and signings who have seen the Championship before. Little by little, the average age of the squad is falling. His approach worked at Brentford – a missed penalty short of promotion in 2013 – but it went wrong for him in the end at Wigan. Rosler seems reluctant to explain that failure but there is a clear distinction to be drawn between the clubs. Brentford under owner Matthew Benham have a plan and are financing it consistently. Wigan last season fell apart completely. It stands to reason that Wigan’s collapse was the result of more than Rosler’s input alone.

At Leeds, then, his success might hinge on those old, fundamental requirements: stable management, joined-up thinking and a refusal by Cellino to tear it all up on a whim. Promotion is not really up for discussion at Elland Road but there is a commitment to keeping United much closer to the high end of the Championship. Rosler says top 10 is feasible and Cellino would probably settle for that. As progress goes, a full season in that section of the table would be the sort of step forward that normal clubs try to take. And through hell, high water and the arrival of Rosler’s heavy metal, Leeds have found themselves acting like a normal club.

Leeds United have seconded the experienced Liz Coley to cover the role of club secretary following the sacking of Stuart Hayton last month. Hayton, a former Wigan Athletic and Liverpool employee, was dismissed from his post after 15 months on the day before Leeds’ 1-0 victory over Ipswich Town. Neither he nor the club have made any comment about the reasons behind his departure. Coley, who is an associate at Leeds solicitors Walker Morris, has a CV showing previous jobs at Fulham, West Ham United, Southampton and the Football Association. Her last full-time post in football, as Sunderland’s club secretary, ended shortly after an administrative mix-up which saw South Korean striker Ji Dong-Won play in four games despite being ineligible.

Ryktes en ny sporting director inn på Waccoe:

Leeds United are looking to appoint former Real Madrid head of strategy Ivan Bravo as their new Sporting Director.

Ivan Bravo is the Director General of the Aspire Academy for Sports Excellence in Qatar. The Academy’s mandate is to develop the football players and athletes that will represent the national teams of Qatar from youth to the senior ranks.

Prior to joining the Aspire Academy, Ivan was Director of Strategy at Real Madrid CF, one of the world’s most accomplished sports institutions. At Real Madrid, Ivan was in charge of heading the Club’s strategies and initiatives on both the business and sports fronts with two main goals: continue to lead the industry as the world’s highest revenue grossing football club and restructure Real Madrid’s sports practices to return to sports success.

During this period, Real Madrid achieved impressive growth on the business side, solidifying its position as the world’s largest club in terms of revenues and won back- to-back LA LIGA championships in 2007 and 2008, after four seasons without trophies (the club’s longest streak in 50 years).

Prior to joining Real Madrid, Ivan was a strategy consultant in the field of leadership, corporate and executive performance in Chicago and Washington DC. with Hewitt. Ivan started his career working with The Gillette Company and Merrill Lynch in several roles in Finance.

Ivan received his MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in the United States.

Garry Monk could sign up veteran scout Ian Broomfield

The Sun claim the Elland Road giants are keen to secure a deal for the 66-year-old.

Broomfield hasn’t worked at Leeds for 18 years.

But he recently left his post at Tottenham and could be moving back to his former stomping ground.

Ian Broomfield helped discover Dele Alli

“Garry Monk could sign up veteran scout Ian Broomfield”

Broomfield moved to Spurs from QPR in in 2014, but was released by the north Londoners at the end of his contract in December.

He was part of the scouting set up that unearthed Dele Alli for £5m from MK Dons.

However, several of Spurs’ summer signings have flopped.

They spent £70m on four players and only Victor Wanyama has made a positive impression.
