Spennende signering!

CARDIFF MIDFIELDER ARRIVES ON LOAN
Tom Adeyemi moves to Elland Road for the 2015/16 season…

PUBLISHED 14 JULY 2015 AT 09:00

 760 1995TOM ADEYEMI, CARDIFF CITY
We are pleased to announce the signing of midfielder Tom Adeyemi on a season-long loan from Cardiff City.

Adeyemi, who joins with a view to a permanent deal, becomes our fifth arrival of the summer so far.

The 23-year-old, a product of Norwich City’s youth system, follows former Cardiff team-mate Charlie Horton, Lee Erwin, Sol Bamba and Chris Wood in making the switch to Elland Road this summer.

Adeyemi’s career began at Carrow Road and he made his senior debut aged 17, before going on to enjoy fruitful loan spells with Bradford City, Oldham Athletic and Brentford - playing under Uwe Rosler at the latter - as he gained valuable first-team experience.

As a youngster he declined an offer from Cambridge University to pursue his footballing career, and March 2010 saw him named as the League One Apprentice of the Year, an accolade recently won at Championship level by United’s Lewis Cook.

Adeyemi’s five years as a professional with Norwich – totalling 17 appearances for the Canaries - came to an end in summer 2013 and Birmingham City subsequently snapped him up on a two-year deal.

The midfielder became an integral part of the Blues’ team, making 40 appearances and scoring three goals along the way to being named as the club’s Young Player of the Year in his debut season.

Adeyemi was chosen as Birmingham’s vice-captain at the start of the last campaign, but Cardiff moved to take him to South Wales over the summer in a deal reported to have been worth over £1million.

He featured 23 times in all competitions during 2014/15 and will now add to Rosler’s midfield options as the head coach readies his side for the new Championship season.

"Leeds United will have to pay around £1m for Cardiff City midfield player Tom Adeyemi if they want to make his season-long loan move a full transfer next summer.

Norwich-born Adeyemi, 23, will sign for Cardiff’s Championship rivals Leeds today after a clause is agreed on a minimum price Leeds would pay if they want him to stay after the end of 2014-15.

City paid £750,000 for Adeyemi when he made the move from Birmingham to South Wales when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in charge a year ago and the Bluebirds are determined to make a profit if the loan becomes a permanent deal."

I scored 24 goals helping my side win promotion back to the Premier League aged just 22. Then in my first season in the top flight I had bagged an impressive 15 goals by the end of January. My form earned me an England call-up. Am I a £35m striker? No. I am Michael Ricketts, February 2002.

Sitat
We’re back with the latest “fans view” and just like when Lee Erwin signed for the club we have hunted down a fan of the team Tom Adeyemi has joined from, Cardiff City. I have asked 11 questions, some of which I have seen being asked various times on social media by fans trying to get a better picture of the powerhouse from Cardiff City.

The Cardiff fan in question is Chris Jones, and I found him on Twitter last night. He wasn’t very happy with the news. Here you go….

1. What is your initial reaction to this move?

Chris – “Not happy as I feel if he had a run of games he could have been a permanent fixture in our team. Disappointed really”

2. Cardiff fans seem upset by the move, why do you think this is?

Chris – “He seems a player full of potential at a young age. Highly rated and never really got a fair crack at the whip here to be fair”

3. What sort of player are we getting?

Chris – “You are getting a good solid midfielder who can break up play but can also make good strong forward runs. Strong central midfielder”

4. Is he worth £1million?

Chris doesn’t know Leeds have a set fee agreed at £1million if we want to buy Adeyemi so his response was very interesting.

Chris – “We paid £1million for him, and if he does well for you I can see us asking for up to £3million for a player his age and English”

5. If you could compare him to any player, who and why?

Chris- “Hmm, sort of a Nabil Bentaleb style player. Good at breaking up play and goes on occasional strong forward runs”

6. Do you expect him to be a success at Leeds United?

Chris- “That is hard to say. He wasn’t a great success for us for unknown reasons but if he plays to his potential he should be”

7. He’s been loaned out a lot so far in his career. Why do you think this is?

Chris – “I believe this was to gain match experience and when we signed him I expected him to go straight into our first team”

8. Leeds and Cardiff historically don’t like each other. Are you even more disappointed it was Leeds that signed him?

Chris – “Not going to lie, I’d have preferred him to go to another club rather than Leeds due to our history with each other”

9. What is his best asset?

Chris – “We haven’t really seen that much of him so from what I’ve seen I’d say his ability to break up play”

10. One thing he needs to work on?

Chris – “I’d say his distribution was poor so that would be what he needs to work on”

11. Describe him in three words…

Chris – “Talented, Powerful, Versatile

ADEYEMI CAPTURE EXCITES ROSLER
Head coach gives his verdict on midfielder's loan move from Cardiff...

Uwe Rosler has spoken of his excitement at the loan signing of Tom Adeyemi, saying that the opportunity to work with the midfielder again was "too good to turn down".

Adeyemi became United’s fifth signing of the summer so far on Tuesday morning, joining on a season-long loan from Cardiff City with a view to a permanent deal. And the 23-year-old is no stranger to Rosler, with the pair having spent the 2012/13 campaign together at Brentford – where Adeyemi was on loan from Norwich.

“I worked with Tom at Brentford and I’ve followed his progress since then,” said Rosler. “He’s a very competent midfielder with Championship qualities. “After we lost Rodolph Austin and with the injury to Luke Murphy, we were short in the midfield area. The opportunity to work again with Tom was too good to turn down.

“He will add physicality, dynamism, good athleticism, height and footballing skills to our midfield. “We have different types of midfielders now and it makes me excited to work with all of them. “The most important thing is that they are good players, and Tom is a good player. But, at 23-years-old, he is a young player and he has the best years ahead of him.

“We have the option to buy him after a year but we will address it step-by-step. “What excites me with him is that he has a lot of experience – he’s started over 150 games in the Football League and has played regular football for many years. “He knows the Football League and what that means.

I think he will add quality and experience to our midfield. We have several options now and he is the one who can play with all of our other midfielders.

“He has a very good attitude – he wants to learn and he wants to listen. That’s all we can ask for. Asked if the chance to sign Adeyemi came as something of a surprise, Rosler replied: “To be totally honest, yes. I wasn’t aware that he was available. “After the injury with Luke, we started to look more intensely at who we could bring in. “We got a tip that he was available and he ticks a lot of boxes that we were looking for in that position.”

Oldham's Tom Adeyemi suffers 'racial abuse' in Liverpool FA Cup tie
• Defender visibly upset after exchange with fan or fans
• Liverpool says club will ensure 'appropriate action is taken'

Friday 6 January 2012 22.57 GMT Last modified on Tuesday 20 May 2014 21.41 BST

Liverpool were embroiled in a fresh racism controversy night, after the Oldham Athletic defender Tom Adeyemi alleged that he was racially abused twice by a supporter during an FA Cup tie at Anfield.

The incident occurred 10 minutes from the end of Liverpool's 5-1 win over the League One side. The 20-year-old Adeyemi, who is on loan from Norwich City, became involved in an altercation with a supporter, or supporters, at the front of the Kop. Before leaving the stadium Adeyemi gave a statement to Merseyside Police in which it is understood he claimed to have been racially abused twice by a supporter.

Adeyemi was visibly upset by the exchange and it required several team-mates, the Liverpool captain, Steven Gerrard, and the referee, Neil Swarbrick, to calm him down. He was booked seconds later for a wild foul on the Liverpool substitute John Flanagan.

Witnesses reported seeing two fans wearing Luis Suárez T-shirts – similar to those worn by Liverpool players at Wigan last month, after the Uruguayan was found guilty of racially abusing Patrice Evra – confronting Adeyemi. A witness who gave evidence to Liverpool officials and the police said: "I was to the right of the Kop and the No11 turned to walk away after a tackle. I heard a single voice shout, 'You f**king black bastard.' He spun round with shock on his face and started pointing at the crowd, from where the shout had come."

Merseyside police said that arrests were made at the game but not in relation to the alleged abuse of Adeyemi. A statement said: "Merseyside police can confirm that no one has been arrested this evening on suspicion of racially aggravated behaviour during tonight's FA Cup fixture at Anfield. However, the force and Liverpool Football Club are investigating following an incident that occurred during the second half of the game. The aim of the investigation is to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident to ascertain if any action needs to be taken."

Liverpool launched an investigation into an incident that could not have come at a worse time for a club that has been widely condemned for its vehement support of Suárez, before and after his eight-match ban for racially abusing Evra in a match last October.

The Liverpool manager, Kenny Dalglish, was not able to comment. He gave his post-match press conference shortly after the final whistle. But a Liverpool statement said: "An incident occurred in the second half of the match which is now being investigated by both the club and the police. We will continue to work closely with the police to establish the details of what actually happened and will make a further statement in due course."

The Oldham Athletic manager, Paul Dickov, said Adeyemi was calm in the dressing room after the game but said that the player's on-field response to the alleged abuse had been out of character.

"From my point of view I have not spoken to Tom but something has been said," Dickov said. "He is a placid boy and well-educated lad with a fantastic temperament. He never raises his voice so for him to react like that, something has been said but what that is I don't know. I have not heard. I've just been told the police are investigating it.

"I haven't spoken to him directly about what happened because I was in the dressing room telling all the lads how proud I was of their performance. He is fine now. He has calmed down. He is a laid-back character. Our players and the Liverpool players helped calm him down, which showed they are fantastic professionals."

Norwich And Bradford Fans On What Leeds Should Expect From Adeyemi
The lowdown from those that know his strengths and weaknesses.

Keith Wildman - Bradford

I really liked him when he played for Bradford City.

He played central midfield during a forgettable time for the club. A time that seems light years away from where we are now. A time where players names flutter around the back of my memory just out of reach.

Tom Adeyemi is one I remember.

He got a bit of stick at times as he was only 18 years old but I thought he looked big, strong, and had a confident long stride.

I remember telling people I thought he'd be a Premier League player. For his age he looked good and had that Premier League physique you don't seem to get in the lower divisions. I could be wrong but I'm sure shared the distinction, along ex City captain David Wetherall, as being a dab hand at chemistry and turning down a place at Cambridge university to play football.

He'll probably be best remembered by City fans for scoring a thunderbolt last-second goal against Rotherham at Valley Parade. It appeared to thunder against the inside of the stanchion and then onto the line. After consulting the linesman - the only person in the ground who thought it went in - the referee gave the goal. City won the game and arch panto villain boss Ronnie Moore ranted hilariously on the touch line and was sacked the next day.

He left us to go back to Norwich where I think he played a few games. The next I heard of him he was at the centre of a racist fan row.

Andrew Woods - Norwich

The timings were a little off for Tom Adeyemi at Norwich but many expected him to return to the club after several loan spells.

That said, it's a decent, combative and lofty midfielder heading to West Yorkshire who should be looking to kick on in the Championship. With so many Leeds players having headed East in recent seasons to Norfolk it's maybe time that someone decent headed in the opposite direction, albeit from a third party.

Norwich fans only got to see him play 17 times but he did receive the League One Apprentice of the Year award for 2009/10 after a solid shift, although he did start his career in the absolute horror show that was the 7/1 opening home defeat to Colchester United. And he showed absolute class in the racial disgrace at Anfield whilst at Oldham, without needing to resort to kung fu.

TOUR IDEAL FOR NEW RECRUITS - ADEYEMI
Midfielder discusses United's time in Austria so far...

PUBLISHED 20 JULY 2015 AT 05:00

 520 462PRE-SEASON, TOM ADEYEMI
Tom Adeyemi says that the pre-season tour of Austria and Norway provides the "perfect environment" for new recruits like himself to become fully integrated with the rest of the squad.

Adeyemi, 23, became United’s sixth new signing of the summer last week, joining on a season-long loan deal from Championship rivals Cardiff City.

And the midfielder could make his first appearance in a Leeds shirt during Tuesday evening’s friendly with Eintracht Frankfurt after missing last week’s draw at York City while he built up his fitness.

Speaking about the training camp so far, Adeyemi said: “It’s been good. It’s been hard work, to be honest, in the heat and with the intense training that the gaffer likes us to do.

“It’s been tough but we’re all enjoying it and we’re definitely going to be feeling the benefits once the season starts.

“The heat takes it out of you a little bit more than what it would do if we were training back in England, but that’s perfect because I think that it’ll all feel a little bit easier when we do get back.

“I’ve missed a little bit of training compared to what some of the other boys have had, so I’m maybe playing a little bit of catch-up.

“But I feel like I’m getting up to that level and I’m ready to push on now and become a fully integrated member of the team.”

Asked about bonding with his new team-mates, the midfielder added: “It’s the perfect environment to do that because we’re all in one hotel, we all have three meals today together and it’s the best opportunity to get to know all the lads.

“It seems like a really good group.”

Charlie Horton revealed to LUTV earlier today about how the new signings were initiated in front of the rest of the squad upon arrival in Austria, and Adeyemi was no different on Saturday evening.

“I did the same – I did a nice rendition of R Kelly ‘The World’s Greatest’,” he said. “I think it went down pretty well.

“I was probably the star man until Chris Wood did the Haka and that blew everyone away.

“Over the course of a long, hard season it’s important to get that togetherness as a group and a good team spirit.

“When things get tough later in the season, that’s when we’re going to have to all pull together and make sure we’re all pulling in the same direction.”

The United players have been put through their paces since arriving in Austria on Saturday, with double sessions on most days ahead of the Frankfurt friendly.

Adeyemi said: “The manager wants us to be playing high intensity, pressing football. That’s something we’ve been working on, particularly which areas to go and press and how to go and press.

“The ideal situation is to win the ball back as high up the pitch as possible and that’s something we’re going to be looking to do this season.”

I for dårlig form mener Evans. Henger han spilleren litt ut her?

Evans spoke about Adeyemi last night. Said his omission is a "form issue" and said he'd been "sloppy and looking laboured". #lufc

Marching on together!
