Tom Adeyemi says that the pre-season tour of Austria and Norway provides the "perfect environment" for new recruits like himself to become fully integrated with the rest of the squad.
Adeyemi, 23, became United’s sixth new signing of the summer last week, joining on a season-long loan deal from Championship rivals Cardiff City.
And the midfielder could make his first appearance in a Leeds shirt during Tuesday evening’s friendly with Eintracht Frankfurt after missing last week’s draw at York City while he built up his fitness.
Speaking about the training camp so far, Adeyemi said: “It’s been good. It’s been hard work, to be honest, in the heat and with the intense training that the gaffer likes us to do.
“It’s been tough but we’re all enjoying it and we’re definitely going to be feeling the benefits once the season starts.
“The heat takes it out of you a little bit more than what it would do if we were training back in England, but that’s perfect because I think that it’ll all feel a little bit easier when we do get back.
“I’ve missed a little bit of training compared to what some of the other boys have had, so I’m maybe playing a little bit of catch-up.
“But I feel like I’m getting up to that level and I’m ready to push on now and become a fully integrated member of the team.â€
Asked about bonding with his new team-mates, the midfielder added: “It’s the perfect environment to do that because we’re all in one hotel, we all have three meals today together and it’s the best opportunity to get to know all the lads.
“It seems like a really good group.â€
Charlie Horton revealed to LUTV earlier today about how the new signings were initiated in front of the rest of the squad upon arrival in Austria, and Adeyemi was no different on Saturday evening.
“I did the same – I did a nice rendition of R Kelly ‘The World’s Greatest’,†he said. “I think it went down pretty well.
“I was probably the star man until Chris Wood did the Haka and that blew everyone away.
“Over the course of a long, hard season it’s important to get that togetherness as a group and a good team spirit.
“When things get tough later in the season, that’s when we’re going to have to all pull together and make sure we’re all pulling in the same direction.â€
The United players have been put through their paces since arriving in Austria on Saturday, with double sessions on most days ahead of the Frankfurt friendly.
Adeyemi said: “The manager wants us to be playing high intensity, pressing football. That’s something we’ve been working on, particularly which areas to go and press and how to go and press.
“The ideal situation is to win the ball back as high up the pitch as possible and that’s something we’re going to be looking to do this season.â€
