Leeds United loanee Vurnon Anita loses 6-1 on his Willem II debut.
This week saw Leeds United finally shift outcast utility player Vurnon Anita. The former Dutch international has headed out on loan to Dutch side Willem II for the season.
When Leeds snapped him up last summer it seemed a good deal by the West Yorkshire side. Anita had always proven a trusted servant at Newcastle United and can play a number of positions.
However, he struggled to find any sort of form at Leeds. This summer, it was made quite clear to him that he would not be playing regularly under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa.
Leeds will be pleased to have now got his wages off the books.
For Anita, it is also a good move and he can now get regular football back home. In fact, despite not playing a competitive game since the 3-1 loss to Preston in April, Anita was thrown straight into the matchday squad.
It was, however, a baptism of fire for the 29-year-old. Willem II have enjoyed a good start to the season. But yesterday they came up against perennial title challengers PSV Eindhoven
Anita came on in the 75th minute, by which point the game was gone. PSV were already 6-1 up and that is how the score remained until full-time.
The Leeds loanee will be pleased to be back in action. However, he will hope for better in the clash with Excelsior after the international break.
