ONE YEAR TO GO UNTIL LEEDS UNITED CELEBRATES IT'S CENTENARY

17 Oct 2018

Today the club is asking fans to share their favourite memories

Leeds United Football Club turns 99 today and work is well underway planning for next year’s centenary celebrations.

Founded at Salem Chapel, Hunslet on 17th October 1919, Leeds United has won many major domestic trophies, along with several honours in European competition, and some of the games most famous names have worn the iconic white shirt over the years.

Chief Executive Angus Kinnear said: “Whilst we will enjoy our birthday today, our focus is very much on ensuring that we have a calendar of events and experiences that will allow our supporters to enjoy celebrating the club’s rich heritage. We look forward to announcing our plans in the near future.

“We have a project team in place to focus on creating a truly memorable year, and we have met with the Supporters Advisory Board to share and discuss ideas. We also want to reach out to the wider fan base to help us curate a breadth of memories and experiences.”

Today the club is asking supporters to share their favourite memories from our history. Fans can send us a video clip via the form below, email to 100years@leedsunited.com or simply share their favourite moments via Twitter or Facebook using the hashtag #MyLeeds100.

Allerede ordnet meg uke 42 fri neste år. Satser på at vi spiller mot Manchester United på Elland Road 19. Oktober!

Man vet at det er noen spesielt når man har bursdag på samme dag som Leeds United, match made in he(ll)aven:)
I scored 24 goals helping my side win promotion back to the Premier League aged just 22. Then in my first season in the top flight I had bagged an impressive 15 goals by the end of January. My form earned me an England call-up. Am I a £35m striker? No. I am Michael Ricketts, February 2002.

100 Years: Leeds United Dream Scene

https://form.jotformeu.com/90551490435355

100 Years: The Leeds United Dream Scene

Leeds United have asked renowned international sports artist Jamie Cooper to create a unique Dream Scene artwork to commemorate the club’s special birthday. Planned to be unveiled as part of the club’s centenary celebrations later this year, the 3-metre oil on canvas Dream Scene will bring together 25 figures that have contributed to the Club’s proud history spanning 100 years.

A dream come true for Leeds fans that could only imagine what a team that includes Bremner, Charles, Strachan and Speed would look like, assembled in a current day dressing room scene to mingle and swap stories that have become part of Leeds folklore.

It will also offer the keen-eyed supporter many subtle references to key figures and significant moments in the club’s highs and lows over 100 hundred years, and fans will be able to purchase their own fine art reproduction of this one-off creation.

It is no small challenge to create such a defining image. We have started with the Bremner XI, Revie and Wilkinson. But we need your help to decide on the rest. Who would you put in the Leeds dressing room of dreams?

We want you to vote for your top 5 figures to add to the prestigious list of Bremner, Charles, Charlton, Giles, Hunter, Clarke, Gray, Lorimer, Strachan, Speed, Radebe, Revie & Wilkinson.

Voting closes on 29th April 2019

Club launches Time Capsule initiative

Club launches Time Capsule initiative
A unique opportunity is being offered to primary schools across the city to be a part of Leeds United’s centenary celebrations with an unforgettable prize up for grabs.

Over 20 local schools have already signed up to the special time capsule project which will help mark the 100th birthday of the club in October. Working in partnership with Leeds City Council and the Leeds United Foundation, the club is keen to engage with youngsters in a fun, creative and collaborative way connecting the club’s rich heritage and its role within the city of Leeds over the last 100 years.

Pupils in Year 5 and 6 will be asked to work in small teams to create something entirely unique to showcase a theme or a special part of Leeds United’s history.

The project will start when schools return in September and each school registered to take part will be free to decide how to approach the brief, submitting just one entry into the competition.

The winning school’s entry will be officially unveiled as part of a special commemorative event in October to mark the club’s centenary, with the project being placed into a Centenary Time Capsule in the player’s tunnel, meaning it will become a permanent part of the club.

Councillor Judith Blake CBE is backing the initiative and encouraging schools to be a part of the centenary year for the club, she said: “This is a unique opportunity for primary schools across the city to play their part in Leeds United’s centenary celebrations later this year. Leeds United is a club at the very heart of our city and communities, and it would be fantastic to see as many of our schools and children involved in this initiative as possible.”

Bethan Tidey, Headteacher at Beeston Primary School, has already submitted her school into the project and added: “"I felt honoured to be part of the strategic planning group for the Leeds United Centenary Time Capsule Project. As the closest Primary School to Elland Road Stadium, Beeston Primary School have strong links with the club and the Leeds United Foundation play a big part in our curriculum offer and help deliver high quality P.E. to our children.

“I'm sure that our Y5 children in September will be incredibly motivated to take part in the competition and I know that staff are already planning an exciting unit of work; how great to be able to celebrate a significant event and learn more about our local history at the same time."

The Leeds United Foundation will play an important role in supporting some of the schools they are working in across the city with the project, Nigel Thewlis, Head of Education for the club’s official charity, said: “This is going to be a really exciting project for youngsters and teachers to be involved in and we look forward to hopefully working with some new schools during the campaign.

“I know that this is going to be something that will allow the pupils to be really creative and youngsters will be able to learn new things about the club and the city they live in whilst also developing their teamwork and project management skills.”

If you would like your school to take part in this fantastic project, please register your interest now by clicking here.

For more information on the project please contact Nigel.Thewlis@leedsunited.com.

Fantastisk at ikke Amazon Prime-serien er omtalt her inne :o

Jeg fikk omsider svar på noe jeg har lurt på;

Are they filming again this season or is the season coming out tomorrow a one off?

filming again and were filming today. '

Da blir det fort en oppfølger - forhåpentligvis med en lykkeligere slutt :)

lLeeds-Live spekulerer...

The clues hinting at what Leeds United's special one-off centenary kit could look like
The Whites will wear a special kit for the centenary game against Birmingham City in October

By Rhys Thomas   21:00, 14 SEP 2019

What will the new kit look like?

For a club as big as Leeds United, it is important that everything goes to plan for their centenary year.

Some fans worry that the grey and pink away shirt  should bear closer resemblance to the Leeds United away kits of the past for such an important year, and that the club should release a shirt that closer represents its own proud history.

Luckily, managing director Angus Kinnear hinted that two further 'traditional' kits are still to be released.

It is believed that Leeds will wear a special one-off kit for the match with Birmingham City on October 19, which comes just two days after the club's 100th birthday.

Speaking in the club's programme notes ahead of the Nottingham Forest game, Kinnear said: "Traditionalists can rest assured that three of our four kits this season will be heritage-driven, but we wanted one kit to appeal to a new generation of Leeds supporters for our next century."

As for what this special kit will be, we're left to explore Leeds' history to ponder on what it could look like.

Back to day one (kind of)
Anyone with a knowledge of Leeds will be aware that blue and yellow are inextricably with the city.

The famous Leeds Rhinos line up in blue and yellow, and Leeds United even wore the colours, before Don Revie changed to the famous white strip to replicate Real Madrid in the 60s.

Left, Leeds City 1904-05, Right, Leeds City 1905-06
The kits above aren't old Leeds United kits, though - they are former strips worn by Leeds City.

Leeds City were formed in 1904, and they are the original football side from a city traditionally obsessed with rugby league.

In fact, Leeds United were born from the ashes of the original Leeds City side, who were broken up and expelled from the league due to financial problems, with their players being sold via auction.

Could the centenary kit revert to a fetching yellow and blue combo to pay homage to Leeds' football origins?

Likelihood rating - 6/10

Back to day one (again)
We've already had a look at the first Leeds City kit, and you'd presume that the early kits from Leeds United were very similar? Surprisingly, the answer is no.

The first Leeds United kit actually had horizontal white and blue stripes, reminiscent of the dominant three time league winners of the 20s, Huddersfield Town.

Yes, actual Huddersfield Town.

The first Leeds United kit
Luckily, Leeds changed to blue and yellow kits in the 30s, and Huddersfield never won the league again - lovely stuff.

Does the similarity with the Terriers' kit make this an unlikely design for the centenary game? Probably.

Likelihood rating - 4/10

All white on the night
Leeds United have never changed the colour of their home strip since the legendary Revie changed to an all white kit in the early 60s.

We have had some beautiful white strips over the years, and it would be a popular move if the club followed in Manchester City's footsteps in releasing a traditional strip free of sponsors.

Manchester City wore a special kit for their 125th anniversary
The 1972 FA Cup final jersey is already popular on the terraces at Elland Road, so perhaps something similar with a specific mention of Leeds United's centenary year could be worn against Birmingham.

Possibly even a return of the 'smiley badge'? We can all dream.

A simplistic white strip could prove popular

Likelihood rating - 8/10

Angus Kinnear tease two more upcoming Leeds United kits this season

Simply red

A red jersey is part of the new centenary collection
It was enough of a surprise when the club released a red top as part of the centenary range, so it would be a bold move to repeat the trick for the one-off 100 year kit.

Although associated with arch-rivals Manchester United, Leeds United have actually worn the red jersey on numerous occasions, including in the crucial 1971 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup final when they beat Juventus.

A few items in the centenary range reference the famous win, so the red kit could be a nod to one of the finest moments of Revie's magnificent era.

It is unlikely, but when you consider that owner Andrea Radrizzani is a Juventus fan who clearly understands the importance of the final, you could argue that a red centenary kit isn't beyond the realm of possibility.
