Lufcdata

In terms of the top 100 Championship players to have completed take-ons per game, Leeds' sole representatives are Saiz (29th with 1.47), Clarke (66th with 1.18) & Pablo (80th with 1.08). Require at least one additional flair player capable and willing enough to take on opponents.

Vår store akilleshæl (ved siden av sjansesløseri). Gjennombrudd.

With Bielsa staying, this is our best chance at promotion.

Fulham and Brentford always worry me, and you would expect West Brom to be up there but I don't think there is anyone for us to be fearful of next season. #lufc

Nye kontrakter?

Hay:
nothing yet. They'll look to try and do new deals with Phillips/Roofe/Cooper and possibly BPF. Roofe could be a difficult one though.

Sitat
Roofe difficult, does he think hes bigger than the club now?

Does he realise we haven't gone up down to lack of goals..

no, it’s not that - it’s the fact that his wage is low compared to someone like Bamford, for example, and he’ll understandably expect parity.

Et par interessante regelendringer...

The major football rule changes that will be introduced in 2019/20 - how will they effect Leeds United?

Joe Urquhart   Published: 11:08   Updated: 11:48    Thursday 30 May 2019

Summer is a time of change for domestic football across the world. The transfer window opens, players jet off for a well-earned rest and fans take stock after a long, hard gruelling campaign for their teams.
This summer, though, will see a number of rules introduced and amended by the International Football Association Board (IFAB), the self-described "guardian of the laws of the game."

The new rules come into play on June 1, though competitions which started before that date can opt to keep the old laws in play until their conclusion.

So... which key rules have been altered? Let's take a closer look.

Accidental handball
From next season, any goal scored with the arm - accidental or deliberate - will not count. Similarly if an advantage is gained in the build-up to any attack by the use of an arm, a free-kick will be given.
Crucially, this does not apply to defenders inside their own box, meaning incidents will still be left to the interpretation of the match officials over accidental or deliberate use.
Remember Kemar Roofe's controversial goal against Nottingham Forest last November? That would have be chalked off regardless of whether it was an accidental or deliberate handball if spotted by the referee.

Penalties
Goalkeepers, as things stand, are supposed to remain on their line during a penalty kick.
This rule, though, has been altered so that now they must have one boot on the line when the ball is struck. Whether this will be enforced correctly remains to be seen.
Keepers will not be allowed to touch the frame of the goal (i.e making the crossbar shake) and are also forbidden from 'feigning movement one way' in an attempt to bluff the taker.

Goal kicks
This one may help Bielsa-ball...
From next season, players will be allowed to receive goal-kicks from inside the penalty area. The old rule stated that the ball couldn't be touched by a team-mate until the ball had left the box but this one makes a lot of sense.
Opposition players, though, still won't be permitted to enter the penalty area until the ball is 'live' (touched by a second player).

Substitutions
Perhaps the most intriguing new rule.
In a bid to stop time-wasting, players will now be permitted to leave the pitch at the nearest point when being substituted. This is instead of making the long walk across the field of play talking up vital seconds, normally in the closing stages of a game.

Drop balls
Are a thing of the past...
Instead of a drop-ball situation going forward, referees will now give the ball back to the team who last had possession before play was halted. Whether they will return the ball to the opposition if the situation dictates is entirely up to them, as the referees cannot enforce this.

Defensive wall
Another interesting one.
If there are more than three defensive players in a wall at any free-kick - so, more often than not, any time a shot at goal will be struck - no opposition players will be permitted to join in.
The attacking side must remain at least one yard away from the wall, meaning an end to any pushing and shoving when the free-kick is taken between the two teams.

Coin toss
Instead of just picking ends, the winning captain of the coin toss will now also be permitted to choose whether to kick-off or not.

Coaches booked (EFL already use this)
As we have seen over the course of the Championship campaign, head coaches and their staff can now be cautioned with yellow and red cards if their behaviour deems it.
The EFL put this rule into play at the start of the 2018-19 campaign, but this will now be used across the game.

Leeds United face uphill battle against uneven Championship playing field - but Marcelo Bielsa can level the odds

Phil Hay
Published: 15:40 Friday 31 May 2019
Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa.
Updated: 10:59 Saturday 01 June 2019

The conclusion of contract talks with Leeds United allowed Marcelo Bielsa to take his leave of England and devote some time to his family in Argentina.

He has seen little of Rosario since his appointment at Elland Road and he goes home with only a matter of weeks in which to draw breath.

Leeds’ defeat to Derby County in the Championship play-offs still feels fresh, a fortnight on from an evening of hell, but the transfer window is open, the club’s players are due back at Thorp Arch within a month and Bielsa will discover the schedule for next season in 19 days’ time.

Nothing brings the new term into focus quite like the announcement of the EFL’s fixture list.

It is the fixture list, more than anything else, which will remind United of what went begging against Derby: dreams of Anfield and the Etihad replaced by the reality of visits to Oakwell, Kenilworth Road and certain venues they know so well they could drive to with their eyes closed.

A 10th straight year in the Championship makes Leeds one of the division’s longest-serving clubs, and long since deprived of parachute payments.

Six of the teams in the table next season will be supported by additional Premier League revenue, with £40m going to the sides relegated from the top flight, Cardiff City, Fulham and Huddersfield Town, and £35m paid to the three who dropped out in 2018, Stoke City, Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion.

There is no great correlation between clubs with parachute funding and promotion – of the sides who dropped into the Championship 12 months ago, only West Brom went close – but those six are where the money is flowing.

Huddersfield, to use a local example, will earn from parachute payments alone the equivalent of Leeds’ annual turnover.

Huddersfield’s re-appearance in the division and Barnsley’s promotion from League One maintains a strong Yorkshire presence in the Championship, two of six clubs from the county.

London will also be heavily represented after Fulham lost their Premier League status and Lee Bowyer’s Charlton Athletic saw off Sunderland in the League One play-off final.

Bielsa is about to get his first taste of Neil Warnock – a manager who warned in March that Leeds might be carrying a “soft belly” – when United play Cardiff City and he and Frank Lampard will cross paths again if Lampard and Derby agree to spend another year in each other’s company.

Cardiff, with Warnock, look well placed to recover from relegation quickly and a sensibly-managed summer would give West Brom the chance to compete strongly again.

Stoke City, who finished 16th this season and were forever off the pace, are arguably the club who will expect most improvement and have the funds to realise it but there is a wide-open feel to a league which is never much of a closed shop.

Bielsa’s decision to stay as Leeds’ head coach saw his squad installed as immediate favourites for the title but certain bookmakers have as many as 17 clubs in single figures to win promotion.

The EFL will announce its fixture list on June 20, six weeks in advance of the first weekend of the 2019-20 campaign. The season is set up to begin on Saturday, August 3 although the EFL intends to raise the curtain with a game on Sky the previous night.

Bielsa will try, as he did a year ago, to hit that weekend with his players in full flow.

Leeds have two friendlies confirmed for the summer, against Manchester United and Western Sydney Wanderers in Australia, but will add domestic fixtures to their diary shortly.

There were discussions about a third match down under, prior to the clash with Manchester United on July 17, but Bielsa decided against it for fear of overloading the schedule and increasing travelling time.

Leeds will fly home from Australia with just a fortnight to go before their opening Championship match.

Bielsa has inside knowledge of the league now and can see the many differences from the Premier League: a lower profile, less box-office appeal, more fixtures and the certainty that nothing less than promotion will satisfy anyone.

This is a rare summer at Elland Road, one in which the retention of Bielsa felt every bit as crucial as making it through the play-offs last month, but his holiday back home will be consumed by thoughts of the prize that got away.

“An unforgettable experience,” Bielsa called his first year in the Championship. Part two is already on the way.

No surprise if Leeds United take displays to new level after second summer with Marcelo Bielsa

Lee Sobot   Published: 06:20    Thursday 20 June 2019

PLAY-OFFS heartache to Derby County still seems like yesterday.
Thirty-six days ago to be precise.

There is, though, scant time to lick any wounds with the majority of Leeds United’s players returning to pre-season training at Thorp Arch in just four days’ time.

A select group with some involved in internationals then returns next Saturday by which time there will be five weeks until the opening weekend of the 2019-2020 Championship.

The clock is also ticking to United’s first pre-season friendly in just under three weeks’ time at York City. The Minstermen and Guiseley feature alongside Manchester United and Western
Sydney Wanderers in a real mixed bag of opponents over the summer.
Leeds are hoping to arrange another friendly at Elland Road for the final Saturday before the season starts.
But last summer under Marcelo Bielsa showed that little notice should be taken of results over the summer with Leeds then bursting into life when it mattered most last August.

The only difference this time around is that there will be no element of surprise should United again leave their pre-season results well behind when the campaign swings into gear.
Leeds began their preparations for the 2018-19 campaign with a friendly at League Two outfit Forest Green Rovers on July 17 which had been arranged as part of the deal to bring midfielder Jordan Stevens to the Whites.
One month after taking charge at Leeds, Bielsa named a squad of just 15 players for the clash at the New Lawn and the South American’s tenure began with a victory as first-half goals from Kemar Roofe and Luke Ayling ensured a 2-1 victory.

One year on, Leeds will begin their pre-season campaign against a side two divisions lower than Forest Green in York. The Minstermen eventually finished 12th under Steve Watson and Bootham Crescent will welcome Leeds for a 7pm kick-off on Wednesday, July 10.

Just over 24 hours later, United will be back in action again at another National League North side in regular pre-season hosts Guiseley who will take on the Whites at Nethermoor Park on Thursday, July 11 (7.45pm).

Western Sydney Wanderers braced for unforgettable experience against Leeds United

Under Russ O’Neill and Marcus Bignot, the Lions finished one place but nine points above the dropzone last term and the Lions will feature on United’s summer agenda as their second opponents, having been their second-last opposition last summer.
By the time Leeds lined up at Nethermoor Park on July 26 last year, United had already taken in four friendlies with the Forest Green clash followed by 1-1 draws at York and League One side Southend United and a 4-3 loss at another League One outfit in Oxford United with Bielsa naturally rotating his line-ups.

Leeds then edged a seven-goal thriller at Guiseley with a Ryan Edmondson double plus strikes from Mateusz Klich and Jack Clarke sealing a 4-3 win but results-wise, the Whites headed into their final summer pre-season friendly at home to Spanish Segunda Division side Las Palmas following two draws, two narrow wins and one defeat from five games against much lower league opposition.

Leeds then edged out Las Palmas through a solitary late strike from Kemar Roofe after a solid but unspectacular display but there was no real clue what to expect as the Whites lined up for the season opener at home to title favourites Stoke City.

Yet Bielsa’s men burst into life with a sensational display en route to a 3-1 victory that far exceeded anything seen in pre-season.
Twelve months on, the clashes against non-league hosts York and Guiseley could hardly be followed by a more different test with Leeds then flying out to Australia over the weekend of July 12 and taking on Manchester United at Optus Stadium in Perth on Wednesday, July 17 (kick-off 12 noon BST).

Chalk and cheese compared to York and Guiseley with Leeds taking on the Red Devils for the first time in seven years since Sir Alex Ferguson’s side recording a 3-0 win at Elland Road in a Carling Cup tie on Tuesday, September 20 through a Michael Owen double and Ryan Giggs strike.

Three days after the Red Devils pre-season friendly, a diverse selection of summer opponents for Leeds then takes in a clash against Western Sydney Wanderers at Bankwest Stadium in Sydney on Saturday, July 20, kick-off time yet to be confirmed. The club were only formed in 2012 with the Wanderers finishing eighth out of the 10 teams in the A-League last term.
One week later, Leeds are set finish their pre-season with a final friendly at Elland Road.

Bielsa will naturally want his men to head into his second Championship campaign on the back of some strong results but last season proved that it was the hard yards and triple sessions at Thorp Arch that ultimately made the difference come the season proper.
It was a difference that took Leeds to the play-offs, only to end in heartache against the Rams. It meant league clashes against the likes of Manchester United will have to wait until another day.

Ensuring the club book Premier ties against the Red Devils in 2020-21 is now the sole objective next term and the first weekend in August and not the club’s pre-season friendlies will be the first chance to judge.

Jeg frykter bestandig april, totalt uavhengig av motstander. Vi taper stort sett alle kamper i den måneden. De fem lagene som møter oss da er heldige....
