Title: Dan Murray on trial
Post by: kendo on November 18, 2008, 22:17:02
Leeds have handed Cork City skipper Dan Murray a two-week trial at Thorp Arch after being alerted to the defender's availability.

Cork recently offered the 26-year-old a new three-year contract, but Cambridge-born Murray has confirmed he never put pen to paper on his new deal.

The 26-year-old centre-half left Peterborough for Cork in 2002 following an initial loan spell and was handed the captain's armband soon after at the Turner's Cross Stadium.

"Ill be extremely suprised if Dan Murray gets anymore than a trial i have seen the guy on many occasions and he's slow and pretty average to be honest he likes to make runs with the ball but goes no where. You never tough with Stan he might see the new Maldini looking at him, up at Thorp Arch"

Treg stopper...

There's been alot of threads on this Dan Murray guy, let me shed a little light on his ability. I have the dubious pleasure of researching for the Eircom league, this guy is one of the best centre back's in the League of Ireland at the moment. The good news is, he's turned down a 3-year contract and the Eircom league has just finished, so if we wanted him we could have him signed up in the next couple of weeks. He's a leader, captain for a good few years there, no-nonsense defender - doesn't pussy foot around and gets rid of danger, he also has a bit of pace about him - definitely more than Telfer or Michalik, he's also a perfect hight for a centre-half, 6 foot 1. Ive seen him live a couple of times and he's chipped in with a couple of goals aswell, he could well be one of the bargains of the season along with Becchio and Christie, his arrival will definitely spell the end for one of our current centre-backs who is not in the team at the moment - all he needs to do is impress during his 2-week trial here.

CORK CITY skipper Dan Murray feels his hopes of landing a Leeds United deal look slim following his week-long trial.
Cambridge-born centre-half Murray has returned to Cork after featuring for Leeds reserves in a behind-closed-doors 2-0 win over Lincoln City last week.

Murray, one of four trialists to play, said: "I got to play the full 90 minutes and I was pleased with that and we won the game as well.

"I got to play at centre-half and I had lads like Peter Sweeney, Peter Huntington and an Irish lad Alan Sheehan, who was at Leicester City in the team with me.

"I think if they were going to sign me up, they would have made a move by now."

The City skipper is now hoping to meet club chairman Tom Coughlan this week to begin talks on a new contract.

Murray insisted it was "a good experience" to go on trial to Leeds where he worked with manager Gary McAllister and Academy director Neil Thompson.
