Title: Spiller: James Justin
Post by: Asbjørn on August 25, 2025, 19:36:24

James Justin: I am excited to join the lads and get to work

Leeds United confirmed our latest signing of a productive summer transfer window, bringing in experienced defender James Justin.

The 27-year-old arrives at Elland Road on a four-year deal from Leicester City, with extensive knowledge of the Premier League having made 99 appearances at the top level.

Justin can also boast European and international football on his CV, as well as having won the FA Cup during his time with the Foxes.

"Obviously to join a club of this size and to have the history it has had, and being back in the Premier League was a massive thing for me, so I'm over the moon to have joined," our new signing began, speaking about his reasons for the move.

James Justin LUTV camera
"It's been a while since I've known of the interest, but obviously I was still a Leicester player, so I had to give my all for Leicester whilst I was there.

"That's something obviously that you can expect from me when I put on a Leeds shirt, is to give my all when I'm on the pitch. But for it to finally have happened, it's taken a weight off my shoulders for sure.

"Everyone that I've spoken to about the club and the area has had great things to say about it. So I'm excited to join the lads and get to work."

With the Premier League season now underway and having played against the Whites before in his career, James is looking forward to returning to Elland Road on the home side this time.

"The stadium has obviously got one of the best atmospheres in world football," he stated.

"And it's always a daunting task to come here as an opposing team, but I'm happy to have the fans behind me this time.

"Hopefully I can put on the shirt in front of the fans and show them what I can do, if selected, and hopefully I can train up until then to get myself ready as possible."

James Justin is now the Leeds United defender with the most PL experience

While aged 27 and six foot tall, he also fits another criteria Leeds have been using this summer

We can discuss length of contract but in the short-term, a good back-up #lufc

People need to stop comparing Justin to Bogle or Gudmundsson, he is competition for Byram and/or Schmidt, 99 Premier league appearances, has played for England. As a player for the bench, it's a solid piece of business. On to the next...

UMULIG.

...det var Stats som kom med den:
James Justin will be the 5th Leeds United player with the initials JJ, after Joe Jordan, Julian Joachim, Jemal Johnson and Jack Jenkins. He will also be the the 25th player who has the same initials with the same letter.

Tuchel...

No Premier League defender has created more big chances in 2026 than James Justin (4). He's level with Sunderland's Nordi Mukiele. #LUFC

@lufcdata

James Justin has been a revelation for Leeds United this season. Of the many summer signings who have gone on to surpass expectations, Justin has arguably gone the furthest.

Han har faktisk åtte strake starter nå:
His run of eight consecutive league starts culminated in him wearing the captain's armband against Birmingham City in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday, less than six months after arriving.

Farke on Justin
What he's delivering at the moment in terms of quality and consistency is outstanding. Being a full-back by nature, but he brings his skills on the ball, offensive skills, he makes us less predictable because he can stay as a wide centre-back or full-back. Also his capability to help in the defence, be strong in the duels, defending the box. I've rarely played with a player of his football intelligence, how smart he is and how he reads the game. He's always there with the right decision. What he's doing is always 9/10. He's delivering on the highest level. It's a joy to work with him. Pretty sure after his career he'll be a top coach.

His ability to be strong in the duels. I've rarely played with a player with such football intelligence. When to step out and when to advance with the ball. It's always nine out of 10.

Perhaps we wouldn't have predicted it given he came from Championship level. I always act on the here and now and it's unbelievable what he brings. Pretty sure after his career he will be a top coach bc he understands the work so well.

Jepp. Men kunne jo forsåvidt vært Bogle.

James Justin has joined special cohort of Leeds United stars with England question valid
The impact of James Justin's versatility - and his success in each role - cannot be understated

There are a number of signings that could be branded "bargains" in the Daniel Farke era. Ao Tanaka, Jayden Bogle, Ethan Ampadu. James Justin is right up there with them.

Leicester City fans were taunting their Leeds United counterparts amid the initial £8m fee dished out for the full-back. Or is he a wing back? Or a central defender? So versatile is he that Farke must be rubbing his hands at the player he has within his ranks.

Not only that but he has produced in every position he has been asked to play. Against Wolverhampton Wanderers he showcased his ability to do both - scoring an over-head kick and then running back to deny Adam Armstrong a one-on-one chance not long after.

It is astonishing to think that it took until the last game of November for Justin to be given his full Premier League debut for Leeds. He is now a bread-and-butter pick of the side and even usurped Bogle at right-wing-back the last time Farke had to pick between the pair

"I've rarely played with a player of his football intelligence, how smart he is and how he reads the game," Farke said last month. "He's always there with the right decision.

"What he's doing is always 9/10. He's delivering on the highest level. It's a joy to work with him. I'm pretty sure after his career he'll be a top coach."

But as for the here and now, Justin is offering Leeds a level of quality that few foresaw upon his arrival at Elland Road. He is also offering a lot of experience, having tallied 99 Premier League appearances and an FA Cup triumph prior to his summer switch.

The 28-year-old has had to overcome adversity, with two relegations at Leicester and suffered a ruptured Achilles in 2022. He's been through a lot, but he recently told the official Leeds United podcast that this had only made him stronger and more keen to play games.

Justin has not been injured once since making Elland Road his home and looks as though he might well ensure he does not suffer personal back-to-back relegations. "It's not over until it's over," he nevertheless underlined to Sky Sports on Saturday, giving insight into this gritty mindset.

"We're on a good points total but until we are mathematically safe we will still work hard until the end."

He did add: "It's crunch time. We put two good wins back-to-back for the first time this season. What a time to do it. It gives us a bit of a buffer and it's looking good."

Justin has played a huge role in the fight for survival so far, with two Premier League goals and assists to his name as well as six clean sheets to boast about, including three in his last four top flight games. He has been a gem of a find - a jack of many trades and an expert at them too.

This versatility is exactly what is needed for both Leeds, and as it happens, tournament football. His sole England cap came nearly four years ago.

Realistically it is unlikely Justin ends his long wait for a second international outing this summer, despite on paper being someone who could be of use.

He should at least be on Thomas Tuchel's radar. Selection seems a bit late in the day now, having not played under Tuchel. But you never know. The England boss has Farke's number.

Bogle - Rodon - Bijol - Strujik - Gabby

https://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/sport/football/leeds-united/leeds-united-news-james-justin-voting-intention-stach-calvert-lewin-ampadu-leicester-city-8512770

The way the club was operating in the transfer window gave him faith that it was going to be a good decision.

"Everyone can see clearly that we've recruited a certain way, with the experience that we've brought in and [players] playing in the highest leagues and the age range, we brought in a lot of good guys as well," he said. "So I was quite confident that we would compete well in the Premier League for sure. You never really know going into a season or joining a new club how it's really going to be until we get there. But as soon as I got here and the first few weeks were done, I was content with the choice."

"I feel like we've been competitive in almost every match, bar, I don't know, maybe three this season," he said. "And everyone can see that the Premier League has been so tight this season, whereas obviously the newly promoted sides, the last six have come straight back down. But I feel like we play like men, we're a lot of people in their 'prime' age. We're fit and we work hard in training so that when it comes to match day, we can keep on going, keep on going, keep on going. And the coaching staff and the physios are really big on that. Fitness and availability also plays a huge role in survival."

...men hvem stemte han på for 'Players Player of the Season'?
The competition for the various end-of-season awards will be fierce and the votes are already in for what is arguably the most coveted prize - the Players' Player award. Previous winners have included Stuart Dallas and Ao Tanaka. It's the one voted for by their peers and the respect of the dressing room means a lot to individuals. Justin had a few candidates in mind when making his pick but when he considered a more holistic selection process he happily settled on midfielder Ethan Ampadu.

"I think Anton was one and obviously Dom as well," he told the YEP. "They were close. But I think Ethan's consistency throughout the season has just been top and obviously behind the scenes, you guys only see him for 90 minutes on the weekend, but behind the scenes, he's been big for us. I just feel like he's been a consistent player for us this season, really important in the dressing room, as well as on the pitch. Obviously, he's produced many top games, kept a level throughout the season, he's definitely taken the jump from the Championship to the Premier League in his stride and shown he's a good quality Premier League midfielder."

As much as Leeds fans have fallen in love with Justin - even many of those who felt the money spent on him should have gone on more attacking talent - he has equally enjoyed the growing relationship. He's not the first to point out that playing in front of them in opposition colours and playing in a Leeds shirt are wildly different experiences.

"I knew that they're a rowdy lot," he said. "Obviously, I played Leeds a couple of times, a couple of seasons ago, lost both times against Leeds we did that season. When you're not Leeds, everyone doesn't like Leeds. Realistically, everyone loves to hate the big boys. I knew a few of the players and the coaches and I'd been around the game, so I kind of knew what it was like, the stature of the club, and how it had been in the past, and the potential for what it could be in the future and getting back to challenging for things - that's the end goal, I assume, of the ownership group. But being on one side of the playing against Leeds and playing for Leeds, the difference is massive, and they do give you that extra couple of percent when you might need it. They're super passionate fans."
...
When Justin looks back, he's happy with the choice he made to come to Elland Road and be part of what was only ever billed as a survival fight.

"I wouldn't say it's been a much-needed change in my career, to be honest, but in terms of getting out of my comfort zone and coming into a club where there's a lot of pressure on how you perform on the pitch and everyone in the city and surrounding areas, everything's Leeds, Leeds, Leeds. So it does give you a bit more pressure, and I've relished it so far, and I'm looking forward to next season."
