Courtesy of Ken Bates` cost cutting exercises, the Leeds United ladies have now practically severed all ties with the men`s team, becoming Leeds Carnegie Ladies FC.
Since Ken Bates cut the funding to the Leeds United Ladies, taking the example of a number of other high-level football clubs (Charlton disbanded their ladies side, only for them to return once more), the Leeds Ladies have done a remarkable job to remain entirely self sufficient, even manging to reach the Women`s FA Cup Final last season.
The Leeds Ladies have been involved with Leeds Metropolitan University over the course of the last year, and closer ties have now seen them align themselves with the Carnegie Faculty of Sport & Education.
Chairperson Melanie Vauvelle-Don explained the partnership on leedsunitedladies.com: "We are delighted to announce the name change from Leeds United Ladies to Leeds Carnegie Ladies FC, which was unanimously voted for at the clubs recent AGM.
We have been a self-supported and funded club for the past three seasons and have done remarkably well with both on and off the field achievements, but now we have come to a point where we need to develop the club even further and after discussions with Leeds Met Carnegie it soon became clear that a proposed enhanced partnership, which included a name change, was the best way forward.
The club will still remain a separate run club as it was before, but now we have the support to take the club to the next level.
Vital Leeds United wishes the Leeds Carnegie Ladies FC all the best for the future!

As I recall, a couple of members of the Scandinavian Members' Club came to a home
game last season, and you're always welcome to see us in our new home at Farsley
Celtic.

Leeds Carnegie Ladies vant idag ligacupfinalen :)
Leeds ladies secure silverware
Leeds Carnegie (formerly Leeds United) ladies football team have lifted the first silverware of the season after beating Everton 3-1 in the Women`s Premier League Cup final.
Goals by Katie Holtman and two from Ellen White secured the win.
Leeds were 2-0 up inside 20 minutes thanks to Holtman and White before Fara Williams gave Everton hope of getting back into the game early in the second half when she reduced the deficit.
20 year old White secured the trophy for Leeds inside the final ten minutes.

'Overwhelmed' White lauds Final effort

The Final
The FA Tesco Women’s Premier League Cup

Live on FATV
Leeds Carnegie’s two-goal hero, Ellen White, praised her team-mates efforts after they produced a deserved 3-1 victory over Everton in The Final of The FA Tesco Women’s Premier League Cup.
Katie Holtham fired Carnegie into a 14th-minute lead with a low, long-range effort and White doubled this advantage from close range on 20 minutes, prodding home Sue Smith’s corner. They went in at the break looking comfortable for their two-goal cushion, but Everton rallied in the second half and pulled a goal back through captain, Fara Williams.
Despite Everton’s improvement in the second period Leeds rarely looked overly troubled and White broke away on the counter-attack in the 85th minute to secure Carnegie’s first domestic Cup in the club's history.
“It’s such an amazing feeling, I’m overwhelmed to be honest,†said White after the game. “I’m so pleased for the girls and so happy to have won something because we’ve come so far as a team, but this is the first time we’ve won anything, so it’s brilliant.
“I thought we played really well in the first-half, I thought we dominated the game. Second half we knew they’d come out all guns blazing and I thought we controlled them quite well. We stuck together as a team and got the result in the end.â€
With Everton pushing hard for the equaliser, when presented with an opportunity to relieve some of the pressure, many players would have raced the ball to the corner flag or held it up until support arrived, but when White found herself in this situation with just five minutes remaining she had other ideas.
“I don’t really know what was going through my head," she said. "I didn’t know if I had any support and I knew I had to shoot before the defenders got back at me. I thought I took the goal alright. I just wanted to restore the two-goal lead and secure the win for us.â€
This goal sealed a 3-1 victory and Leeds’ first Final success at their fourth attempt. It was left to club captain, Jess Wright and captain on the night, Sophie Bradley, to lift The Cup, a moment White finds it difficult to comprehend.
“Lifting that Cup; what an unbelievable feeling. I’ve never won a Cup with any side I’ve been in so it is really overwhelming. We all are, I think.â€

Leeds United: Whites come to the rescue for the Ladies

-

I morgen starter den nye sesongen opp igjen, mot Millwall all over again ::)

From 'Carnegie' to 'United'
Leeds United Ladies manager Gemma Grainger cannot wait to draw a line under the rollercoaster summer and get stuck into what she describes as a "suck it and see" season.
The club, formerly known as Leeds Carnegie, was on the verge of disbanding until the beginning of last month when Leeds United AFC stepped in and agreed to take the Ladies under their umbrella.
Not only did they need a new name, but they needed almost an entire new team. The formation of the Women's Super League, which kicks off in 2011, prompted a number of Leeds Ladies to sign for one of the eight clubs involved in next year's campaign.
In fact, of the 16 players who steered Leeds Carnegie to a fourth-place finish last season, Grainger only had three remaining. But, having built a new first-team squad, the manager is eager for Sunday's big kick-off against Millwall Lionesses.
"On 3 July I basically had to find a whole new team, but I'm very excited about the new season. It's massive for me that Leeds United men have taken us in.
"For me it's a suck it and see season. There are no expectations on us because everyone knows how hard we've been hit and everyone expects us to lose every week.
"But pre-season has been fantastic in terms of organisation and overall it has been successful on and off the pitch. It's a transitional period for us and I'll be happy with consolidation. It's not just about this year; it's about the next five seasons."
After a mixed 2009-10 campaign, Millwall finished last season in eighth, 26 points behind Leeds and 40 points off the top. But Grainger expects the Lionesses to challenge for the title this season.
"You know what you're getting from Millwall when you go down there," she added. "They are a very good side and there aren't many harder games in the league than Millwall away. They'll be up there but I'm looking forward to it."

Leeds United Ladies i trøbbel:
Stiftet i 1989
Leeds United foundation overtok støtten i 2010

Have your say!
Plans have been put forward in a bid to secure the future of Leeds United Ladies football team.
The Yorkshire Evening Post revealed yesterday (Thursday) that the team are facing an uncertain future amid claims they can no longer use the Whites brand.
The Leeds United Foundation, who have supported the club financially for the last four years, said it was with “regret†that they can no longer back the team.
Fans now look set to put a proposal before Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino on Tuesday in a bid to secure the ladies team’s future.
Supporters have also contacted the FA National Women’s Premier League to postpone a notice to withdraw the team, which was formed in 1989, from the competition.
Gary Cooper, who will stand down as chairman of Leeds United Supporters’ Trust this autumn, said he hopes the club will be allowed to continue to use the same name.
He said: “We are hoping that we will get a chance to speak to Massimo on Tuesday.
“All of the players, parents, sponsors and people involved want to keep this going and there is no reason why it can’t.
“We want to carry on the proud tradition of the Leeds United family.
“Historically the Ladies have been one of the biggest clubs in women’s football.â€
The Foundation is the charitable arm of its parent football club Leeds United.
James McAulay, chairman of the Foundation, said yesterday: “It is with regret that the Trustees of the Leeds United Foundation have been forced to take the decision that they can no longer support the provision of the Leeds United Ladies team.
“Last week the Foundation were informed by Leeds United that the ladies team were no longer able to use the Leeds United name or brand.
“The Foundation has been supporting the provision of the Leeds United Ladies since 2010.
“Without the Leeds United name and brand the continuation of the ladies team under the Foundation is regrettably not sustainable.
“I’d like to thank everyone involved with Leeds United Ladies, past and present, for their support over many years.â€
The Yorkshire Evening Post revealed that the Leeds United Ladies team was on the brink of collapse in 2007 because of funding issues.
Leeds United removed their funding of the team in 2005 but they continued under sponsorship arrangements until 2010 when the Foundation stepped in.

Steve it costs as little as £25k per annum to fund the ladies team, currently non of that cost comes from LUFC funds but the foundation who have been the umbrella body do cost LUFC money and I think this is were the problem lies as far as LUFC see it. Quite rightly under MC the club is looking to cut its cloth, that's right to do I am sure but the ladies team doesn't have to fall victim to that if the club is willing to allow an independent group of stakeholders who don't burden LUFC with any cost implication at all the opportunity to continue to use the name 'Leeds United'. We hope to discuss those proposals with Massimo on Tuesday. The FA and WRCFA have been brilliant and have postponed the foundations application to withdraw Leeds United Ladies from the league.
Det er kanskje håp for damene. Navnet er viktig for dem.

Cellino har talt: Damelag får være damelag, men uten The Leeds United Brand!
Leeds United Ladies forced to rebrand
JULY 22, 2014 AT 2:40 PMADMIN1 COMMENT
Leeds United Ladies.
Leeds United Ladies are set to be re launched tonight as Leeds Ladies after Leeds United club owner Massimo Cellino withdrew support.
It was feared the city’s leading female football team, set up in 1989, might fold after the Italian businessman took over in April and hinted he did not want the Ladies to use United branding.
Chairman of Leeds United Supporters’ Trust, Gary Cooper said: “We’ve been waiting for a decision for weeks. I spoke to Massimo back in May and he told me he wasn’t particularly interested in the women’s team.â€
Leeds United Ladies have been funded by the Leeds United Foundation- the charitable arm of the club – who provided an annual £25,000 towards running costs.
Alan Scorfield, member of the Leeds United Foundation, said he didn’t want to comment on why the foundation has withdrawn support.
He said: “Leeds Ladies is a brand new club and it has nothing to do with us.â€
Unable to use the branding and badges of Leeds United AFC, Leeds United Ladies will now continue as Leeds Ladies FC and have created their own branding but said they are keen to keep the traditions of the Yorkshire football club alive.
Mr Cooper said: “This meeting tonight ensures that the traditions and essence of Leeds United will live on through us and allow the City of Leeds to have a female team that are steeped in the traditions of the club.â€
Leeds United Ladies were a former Women’s Premier League team but now find themselves starting life as a new brand in Division One.
Gary Cooper said he still thinks it is possible for them to go all the way to the Women’s Super League, the highest competitive level in the women’s game in England, if the right structure and support is put in place.
He added: “It won’t be easy, but it is certainly possible. We are looking forward to the challenge.â€
Leeds United said they did not wish to comment.

Proud to support Leeds Ladies FC
18 Aug 2014 07:55am, by Shields53
Marching on Together is proud to sponsor Leeds Ladies FC and player/assistant manager Carey 'Kez' Huegett for the 2014/2015 season. Leeds Ladies kick-off the new season this weekend having been through a turbulent off-season.
The club was founded as Leeds United Ladies FC in 1989 and a proud history saw them reach FA Women’s Cup and FA WPL Cup finals and achie a highest Women’s Premier League finish of 3rd place.
Financial difficulties have plagued the team in the past and Ken Bates removed the financial backing of LUFC shortly after his takeover in 2005. In 2007 Leeds Metropolitan University took over sponsorship and the team was renamed Leeds Carnegie Ladies but in 2010 they removed their support preventing the team joining the Women’s Super League. The Leeds United Foundation took over responsibility for the team and they played in the Women’s Premier League, once again under the name of Leeds United Ladies. Another setback came in 2012 when their bid to join the new Women’s Super League 2 was rejected and as a result manager Rick Passmore and many of the squad left.
In the 2013/2014 season Leeds played in the Women’s Premier League Northern but after a bright start finished bottom and were relegated. To compound issues during the summer LUFC decided to withdraw naming and branding rights and after disagreements over ‘governance’ the Leeds United Foundation took the decision to disband the ladies team. The desire to keep ladies football going in Leeds was strong and the Leeds Ladies supporters club rallied to the cause. After much hard work over the summer months the team has re-launched under the new name Leeds Ladies FC with a new badge and new kit. Discussions with the FA, the West Riding County FA and representatives of the FAWPL enabled the new team to retain the affiliations and take up their rightful place in the FA Women's Premier League Division One this season.
The response from the Leeds United community to the cause has been excellent with blogs, fan groups and organisations sponsoring players for the coming season. Leeds bands Cadillac Jukebox and Kaiser Chiefs as well as Leeds United players past and present including Dom Matteo and Noel Hunt have also shown their support by sponsoring players. The ladies still need all the support they can get though and there are player and corporate sponsorships available, details can be found on the clubs website or by emailing leedsladiesfc@mail.com.
So after a hectic summer off the field Leeds Ladies can finally let the football do the talking when they play their first game of the season at home to Stockport County on Sunday 24th August at 2pm. Home games will be played this season at Knaresborough Town’s Manse Lane ground. The phoenix has risen and manager Jak Oldroyd along with assistant manager Carey Huegett will lead the girls in their fight to get back to where they belong at the top of women’s football stirred by the support shown for them in adversity over the past few weeks.
Women’s Super League
FA Women’s Premier League
FA Women's Premier League Division One
Tror jeg! ;)

Leeds Ladies:
I am so proud today of what these girls have achieved. Superb performance, Commitment and attitude. Leeds 4.2 Stockport.

Leeds-Live med intervju med Lucy Ward.
...plasserer det her.
Nå kommenterer hun fotballkamper!
Anyways, over til Leeds-Live
'No excuses for Leeds' - Lucy Ward talks career, regrets and why Whites must have women's team
Lucy Ward speaks exclusively to Leeds Live about her career in football on and off the pitch
By Carrie Dunn 19:00, 30 MAR 2021
Lucy Ward (right) on BT Sport commentary duty
Lucy Ward has travelled the world thanks to football. She’s commentated on matches across the globe, and is a familiar face and voice to anyone who watches the game on television in the UK.
Her career in Leeds United's academy set-up, heading up their education and welfare provision for young players, has been well documented.
But the 46-year-old also has a proud playing career behind her – and its highlight was a rather unexpected one.
“The biggest high was playing in Lucas Radebe’s testimonial,” she tells Leeds Live. “40,000 people at Elland Road and I scored, and it was unbelievable.”
A cursory glance over her playing honours might suggest that the 2006 Women’s FA Cup final, where she represented Leeds against the mighty Arsenal, could have been a treasured memory. But as a winger playing out of position, Ward scored an own goal after just three minutes had passed at The Den, and United were on their way to a 5-0 thrashing.
Ward was a part of the Leeds United Ladies side that lost to Arsenal Ladies in the 2006 Women's FA Cup final
“Obviously we were never really going to beat Arsenal because they were strides ahead of us,” says Ward. “But I just could not get my head round how hard I'd worked as a youngster and how hard I'd worked as a senior player - and then I ended up in an FA Cup Final playing out of position and then scoring an own goal. I just couldn't get my head round the absolute misfortune and travesty.
“And it's only then that you realise that football will quite happily kick you in the teeth at any particular point.”
Ward began playing football as a child at primary school, motivated to kick a ball by wanting to beat her older brother, two years her senior.
The pair ended up playing in the same primary school team, on the opposite wings. After the age of 11, she was no longer allowed to play in mixed teams, and with no girls’ team at her secondary school, Rodillion in Wakefield, she just made do with PE lessons – until she saw an advert for an eight-week girls’ football course at Guiseley Sports Centre.
The coach there spotted Ward’s talent, and invited her to join a women’s team – where the players nearest her age were 19 years old. The rest of the squad looked after their youngest member, who also achieved regional recognition very quickly, called up to the north-east representative team with the likes of Huddersfield-born Sammy Britton, who went on to play for England.
Ward's own international career stopped after her England under-21 caps, and she wonders now if she could have done more with her talent.
“Because I was quite naturally sporty, I didn't really train like obviously they train now,” says Ward.
“And that's the one regret that I have - that I didn't have somebody that had gone, ‘Right!’ because sport had come so easily I played and enjoyed it whereas really I should have stepped away from that group of players or that team quite early and gone and played at a high level, but I loved it that much and loved them that much that I stayed until I went to university.”
Ward stayed with Leeds for most of her playing career, although the women's club changed hands and officials multiple times.
It F***ed well with her day job after graduating from university, working in the men’s club’s education department, initially as a teacher and then its head. She maintains that is a role she would not have been considered for had she not taught the academy players for the previous six years and seen them progress into the first team.
“I was quite lucky with that, because I don't actually think a woman would have got that role at that point,” she explains. “I was well known and it was just, you know, ‘It’s Lucy, she's brilliant, we love her.’”
That was in 2004, and she stayed there until 2015, when she departed and then pursued and won a well-publicised court case against the club for unfair dismissal based on sex discrimination. In the intervening years, she helped mould the academy players into the club’s stars of the future and found herself working almost constantly alongside her partner Neil Redfearn, initially the under-18s coach and then the under-21s.
“The pastoral side of it is key, it was the sort of thing that I still did with lads who had left the academy and got into the first team,” she recalls. “Whenever they had issues, I would be the first person they would come to…I used to say that my job was probably everything apart from football, but the everything that wasn’t about football made the football better.
“If it was up to me, every single lad would get a contract…but I was there for them when they didn't.”
Although she had done a spot of punditry on Eurosport previously, her media career took off in 2005 when she was having dinner with her old Leeds team-mate Sue Smith and Karen Walker of Doncaster Belles, both of whom had been working as summarisers for the BBC during the Women’s Euros.
They were joined by some of the television production team, who were impressed with Ward’s articulacy and personality – and got in touch months later to invite her to be the main co-commentator for the forthcoming 2007 Women’s World Cup in China.
“All this is from maybe me having a glass of wine and being a bit loud and unusually funny around the dinner table!” laughs Ward. “I ended up going to China - never commentated before and then all of a sudden I'm commentating for the BBC and the millions watching so that was quite a baptism of fire.”
She enjoyed the experience so much she contacted as many producers as she could to offer her services in the future – and since then she has worked for Sky, BT, Channel 4, Setanta and ESPN and more.
“It's only recently that I've gone and done a men's game but I think that's probably because I'm not really a name like Alex Scott, I’ve not played 100 times for England, so I had to do it the hard way and actually prove that I can actually co-comm and so it's brilliant for me, really awesome,” she says.
Although she was an Everton fan in childhood, Ward loves to watch Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds side now, despite the circumstances in which she left the club – and she wishes the hierarchy would invest in the women’s game.
“It always pains me, because it's an absolute drop in the ocean, the money,” she says.
“Even in these COVID times it's peanuts, really, they’ve dropped more money running for a bus, these clubs, so there's no excuse for Leeds not having a top women’s team. There isn't any excuse - they just don't want to spend the money, and that goes for any men’s clubs that haven’t put money into a women’s team.”
And as for that nadir of the 2006 Women’s FA Cup Final, it turned out to have a rather touching epilogue, thanks to the Leeds men.
“Football clubs are the harshest places for banter,” she says, “and I thought, ‘I don’t think I can face going in and the players making fun of me.’
“Anyway, I went in and I was like, ‘This is going to be painful and I don't think I can deal with it.’ I went in my office, and one by one the first-team players came in and said, ‘You think that's bad. Look what happened to me,’ and then another one would come in – ‘You think that's bad. This happened to me.’
“And they just came in and told me their stories…it actually was probably the most touching part.
“I always say to score an own goal in an FA Cup final you have to have played in an FA Cup final, if anybody ever takes the mickey. It was typical of the football club how they rallied around me in their own way after that.”

FT 1-0 Hard work earns Leeds the three points, slowly grinding down a Feds side content to settle for a draw. GK Darbyshire unbothered by a flurry of long range shots in the final 15 but couldn’t stop Brown finishing what was really Leeds’ first dangerous move of the game.
