Ordet er fritt / The Championship 2019-20!

The EFL can confirm the key dates across the League and its competitions for the 2019/20 season, with the highly anticipated fixture release day on Thursday 20 June.

Set for a 9am announcement, the fixture release day represents a date to mark in the diary for supporters up and down the country, with all 72 EFL Clubs from the Sky Bet Championship, League One and League Two able to plan their respective campaigns.

The first weekend of August is to host the opening round of League fixtures, with 3 August the date set for the first set of traditional Saturday games in the EFL, whilst Round One in the Carabao Cup is to take place week commencing 12 August.

Wembley will play host to the Carabao Cup Final on Sunday 1 March, 2020, in what will be the first of five Finals in the EFL calendar, whilst the EFL Trophy Final, which attracted a record crowd of 85,021 in this year’s showpiece between Portsmouth and Sunderland, is to take place the following month on Sunday 5 April.

 The season-ending Sky Bet EFL Play-Offs will once again be staged at Wembley Stadium, this time across two weekends in May. The League Two Final will start proceedings on Saturday 16 May, before League One and the Championship take centre stage the following weekend on Sunday 24 May and Monday 25 May, respectively.

The scheduling of the respective Play-Off Finals is due to a busy period in the football calendar, with Wembley Stadium also hosting fixtures at Euro 2020, including the Semi-Finals and Final.

The lowdown on the 2019/20 fixtures.

Who do Leeds play in the opening fixture of the season?

Leeds United will travel to Ashton Gate for the first match of the 2019/20 campaign.  The game will take place on Sunday 4th August 2019 at 4:30pm and will be shown live on Sky Sports.  Leeds completed the double over Bristol last season, winning 2-0 at home and 1-0 away.  The Whites have lost just one of the last 14 matches against the Robins.

When is Leeds’ first home match?

The Whites will entertain Nottingham Forest at Elland Road in the first home game of the season.  The match is scheduled to take place on Saturday 10th August.  Kemar Roofe handed Leeds a late equaliser in the home fixture last season, as the two sides played out a 1-1 draw.

When are the Yorkshire derbies?

Leeds have two Yorkshire derbies from last season in the form of Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday and they are joined by newcomers Huddersfield Town and Barnsley, who join the Championship from the Premier League and League One respectively.  The first derby game is against Barnsley at Oakwell on Saturday 14th September.  This is followed by two away trips to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday 26th October and Huddersfield Town on Saturday 7th December.  Leeds entertain Hull City at Elland Road three days later on Tuesday 10th December, followed by Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday 11th January.  The Whites travel to Hull City on Saturday 29th February, before hosting Huddersfield Town on Saturday 7th March and Barnsley on Saturday 18th April.

Who are the festive fixtures against?

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have been given one home fixture and three away fixtures over the festive period.  The Whites travel to Fulham on Saturday 21st December, before entertaining Preston North End on Boxing Day (Thursday 26th December) at Elland Road.  The Whites are then on the road at Birmingham City on Saturday 29th December and West Bromwich Albion  on New Year’s Day.

Who are the Easter fixtures against?

Leeds welcome Stoke City to Elland Road on Good Friday (10th April) and head to Swansea City on Easter Monday (13th April).

Who is the last game of the season against?

The last game of the season will see Leeds United take on Charlton Athletic, who are managed by former Whites midfielder Lee Bowyer.  Charlton are back in the Championship after winning promotion from League One last season via the Play-Offs.

When do you know if games will get moved for TV?

Last season Leeds were selected as the main game on Sky Sports 24 times.  The EFL have provided the club with a full list of Sky Sports selection notification dates to help supporters with travel and ticketing plans.

When are the international weekends during the season?

There are four weekends in the campaign for internationals.  These are the following weekends:

- 6-8 September

- 11-13 October

- 15-17 November

- 27-29 March

How do FA Cup fixtures fit in?

The FA Cup third round is on the weekend 3-6 January, which is why there is no fixture currently scheduled for this date.  If Leeds progress, these will take place on the following dates and league fixtures will be re-arranged:

Fifth round: 3-5 March (midweek)

Quarter final: 20-23 March

Semi-final: 18-19 April

Final: 23 May

When will Carabao Cup fixtures be played?

Med tanke på at det kanskje kommer til å bli vanskeligere å få billetter til Leedskamper fremover (forhåpentligvis) er det da ikke på tide at LUSCOS handler inn 10-20-30 sesongkort som da medlemmene kan benytte seg av?

Disse billettene vil jo betales av de som reiser over til "selvkost".Så det vil jo ikke koste de som er medlemmer av LUSCOS, men som ikke reiser over, noen ting.

Så finnes det sikkert rettferdige måter på å fordele disse billettene på.

......hvorfor?

Det virker som misnøyen og frustrasjonen har toppet seg denne sesongen. Mange uttrykker også at gleden ved å følge Leeds United er nesten helt borte.

Hvorfor er det slik?

Forrige sesong var en opptur resultatmessig (vi spilte tidvis ganske kjedelig fotball), selv om vi gikk på den sedvanlige vårkollapsen. Så tar Radz over skuta, virker jo som en ærlig og genuin kar. Samtidig som man tenker at nå snur det så kommer den ene spilleren etter den andre inn døra, sikkert noen gode spillere av alle disse nyankomne. Det kommer ikke inn en venstreback, midtstopper eller målgarantist, men kanskje Orta/Radz og etter hvert TC vet hva man gjør?!
TC er en headcoach jeg var litt tvilende til, men kanskje han hadde baller nok til å lykkes. Sesongen starter og vi spiller festfotball, stallen er stor og jeg tror faktisk at dette er sesongen hvor vi kommer til å rykke opp. Festfotballen slår små sprekker etter hvert før Millwall kommer med slegga. Ooooppss vi er ikke så gode som vi trodde vi var, alt halter og så møter vi et topptent Wednesday som smadrer oss. Sesongen var nesten over der.
På en eller annen måte klarer vi å karre til oss noen poeng i desember, prestasjonene er for dårlige, men poengene renner inn. Så møter vi Newport i cupen igjen, Berardi skårer, fansen stormer ikke banen, kampen snur, Saiz spytter og vi taper. Etter det så har vi vært pill råtne. TC får sparken, noe i hvert fall jeg ønsket, PH kommer inn, meget skeptisk til den ansettelsen. PH en ung "fremadstormende" headcoach som klarer å gjøre underverker med Barnsley i to halve sesonger før alt begynte å gå i dass. Kommer til oss med en seier på de siste 16 for Barnsley (og det var mot et elendig Sunderland, 1-0) og fortsetter å tape. Man ser ingen forskjell i prestasjonene hos spillerne, de ser nesten enda mer daffe ut, ingen distinkt spillestil, rett og slett bare dårlige prestasjoner og noen greie. PH har tapt de 8 av de siste 15 etter at han tok over og det er rett og slett en skam.

Barnsley får seg et løft når PH blir borte og er i skrivende stund over nedrykksstreken selv om det skal bli tøft for de å holde seg, blir en tøff siste serierunde.

Jeg er matt, forbanna, drittlei og oppgitt. Eneste jeg kan se for meg som kan redde dette er å sparke PH, ansette en Manager/Head Coach som har baller nok til å trene denne klubben, for per dags dato så er kaos i og utenfor klubben.

Ser at vi er interessert i favoritten Bartley, det hadde gitt meg håp om han kom tilbake.

Leeds United sign Aapo Halme..

Leeds United are pleased to confirm the transfer of 19 year old Aapo Halme from Finnish side HJK Helsinki on a four year contract for an undisclosed fee.

6ft 4in Halme featured regularly for HJK as they won their domestic league in 2017 and has also represented Finland at Under 19 level.

Halme will join up with Carlos Corberan’s Under 23 side with the view to stepping up to the first team in the coming months.

Denne er meget kinkig!

Sett at vi leder 1-0 på mandag og Pontus påDRAR seg et gult kort med overlegg på slutten for å sone de tre siste kampene. Vi kan i verste fall ikke nå play-off heller. Pontus vil være uten matchtrening i nesten 1 måned før play-off, en rusten Pontus er heller ikke optimalt.

Ayling må spille stopper de siste 3 kampene og får vi en skade på Bartley, Berardi eller Taylor så er det jo krise. Så uendelig mange scenarioer som kan skje.

"You can tell something about how they are as human beings. It's a way of thinking. Because if you think this is boring, I think they need to have a look at their own team and how they play. They can say 'we won' and, of course, at the end it's about the result - but if you need to play like that then I don't want to be a manager."

More than three months after voicing such a forthright view, Jaap Stam remains in charge at Reading. Another nine Championship wins obtained, his team are on course to reach the play-offs as they sit fifth, six points clear of seventh-top Fulham, with eight games to play. Four of those will take place at the Madejski Stadium, where they have lost just twice in 19 league matches this season.

And yet, Leeds United - of whom Stam was so critical after his side lost 2-0 at Elland Road on December 13 - have won once more than Reading in the second tier since then and are a place higher up the table as they look to return to the Premier League for the first time since 2004. The teams meet again on Saturday evening, live on Sky Sports 1, and with the stakes high and tensions arguably higher, the game has all the ingredients to be one of the biggest grudge matches of the campaign.

Stam's indignant take on how Leeds secured their pre-Christmas victory against Reading was a defensive one, a defiant response to chants of "boring" from home fans after the visitors dominated in Yorkshire but often in the wrong areas of the pitch. With 77 per cent of possession, they had the bulk of play yet carved just two shots on target against more ruthless opponents and ultimately suffered one of what now amounts to nine away defeats in the Championship.

For all that, the Dutchman's rant went on: "I don't want to play and just wait and wait and wait. That's not my type of playing, my type of tactics. You can say congratulations to Garry Monk, he got the result and everyone wants results. But in terms of way of playing, it's not my cup of tea."

The likelihood is Stam's comments were borne out of frustration at Reading's usual approach being undone by Leeds going about their business in the way they normally do. Understandable, of course, but curious when you consider he objected to a style adopted by United which is perhaps not as dissimilar to his own team's as he believes.

The former Manchester United defender has become used to seeing Reading show patience before they penetrate to score. They rank second highest in the league's possession stats with 57.9 per cent - with Monk's team 10th thanks to an average fractionally over 50 per cent.

Yet Reading spend only 23 per cent of their time in the opposition third, less than every other team in the division. Statistics suggest Reading have made a habit of biding their time before striking, the very thing Stam pilloried Leeds for, with the only difference being the Dutchman's side have more of the ball in non-dangerous areas before making their move, whereas United appear - with their return of 25 per cent of their time in the opposition third - to absorb pressure then move forward with conviction on the counter.

Notably, Reading spend 34 per cent of games in their own defensive third, more than every other Championship side. It all raises a pertinent question: does it matter whether you have lots of the ball in your own half or not so long as you apply yourselves correctly when you attack? Breaking to get goals and positive results is something both teams have been good at in 2016/17 and while their build-up play might be different, the way they come forward with such incisiveness is much the same.

Leeds head coach Monk - who has since been drawn into a touchline skirmish with Huddersfield's David Wagner and received a fine and suspension for his troubles - was withering in his response to Stam at the tail end of last year. "It doesn't really bother me too much," he said, "but I felt a little bit embarrassed for him to be saying those type of comments. We all want to win games. Sometimes when we don't win, afterwards emotions are still high and it's hard to hide your disappointment. It doesn't affect us at all. We were very happy with our performance and we were the most dangerous team on the pitch. We were clinical and we had the best chances, two goals and a clean sheet. That's all we're focused on."

It is little wonder Monk was so content. Making the most of opportunities is something Leeds have done with aplomb this season. Just bottom side Rotherham and Ipswich have had fewer shots in the Championship than Monk's team, yet only league leaders Newcastle and Norwich have a better conversion rate. Leeds' win against Reading was a trademark success.

Two teams of supposedly differing styles, Reading and Leeds' respective results this season suggest what is being done at both clubs can work. The onus now is on Stam to find a way to outwit Monk - and while he might not admit it publicly, the chances are that will require his men to wait and wait and wait.

Spanish winger arrives from Villarreal CF.




Leeds United are delighted to confirm the transfer deadline day arrival of Spanish winger Alfonso Pedraza.

The talented 20-year-old joins United from La Liga outfit Villarreal CF on loan until the end of the season, with an option in place to sign permanently in the summer.

Pedraza has spent the first half of this season on loan at Spanish Segunda División outfit CD Lugo, where he made 23 appearances, with his final game coming in last Sunday's 1-1 draw with Real Zaragoza.

During his time with Lugo, he was one of the most eye-catching performers in the division, scoring six goals and providing eight assists.

Despite his young age, Pedraza has a wealth of experience, having played 71 career games at club level and featured in the UEFA Europa League with parent side Villarreal last season.

At international level, in 2015 Pedraza helped Spain to victory in the UEFA European Under-19 Championship held in Greece and was capped by the Under-21 side for the first time in 2016.

He will wear the number 20 shirt for Leeds United.

Pedraza will not be available for Wednesday's trip to Blackburn Rovers, but could make his debut in Sunday's Yorkshire derby clash with Huddersfield Town at the John Smith's Stadium.

The winger will be in contention to make his Elland Road debut against Cardiff City on Saturday 11th February.

"Fallskjermpengene" vil bare øke fremover:

From the 2016-17 season relegated clubs will receive 55% of the equal share of broadcast revenue paid to Premier League clubs in the first year after relegation, 45% the following year and 20% in year three. Clubs relegated after a single season will receive 55% and 45% over two seasons with the third payment eliminated entirely.

Summen av alt dette gjør det vanskeligere å rykke opp fra The Championship hvis man ikke har mye penger, så enkelt er det faktisk.

Når det gjelder Leeds United og Cellino så bruker vi ikke nok penger per dags dato og i fremtiden vil behovet for å måtte bruke enda mer penger øke.
En annen måte å rykke opp på er å bygge lag og vinnerkultur, men for å få til dette så må man beholde de beste spillerne og så må ALLE trekke i samme RIKTIGE retning.

Kjapt og enkelt oppsummert, vi har ikke sjans til å rykke opp. Det er uunngåelig at vi må fortsette å selge våre beste for å betale regninger og f0r at de ønsker å spille på høyeste nivå.

Det jeg lurer mest på er hva Cellino tenker om dette? Football League vil kaste han og mange fans vil ha han vekk. Da gjenstår egentlig det øknomiske, jeg tror ikke Cellino klarer å bli rik på LUFC, heldigvis har han mer penger enn Bates så han ønsker vel ikke å melke oss?

Meget trist dette!

Paul, who previously occupied the role of Director of Commercial Affairs for four-and-a-half years at United, arrives from fellow Championship club Sheffield Wednesday, where he held the position of Chief Operating Officer.

 Paul said: “I am immensely honoured to return to Leeds United and I am relishing the opportunity to work alongside Massimo Cellino in leading the business side of the club and the senior management team. “I also look forward to supporting Steve Evans, his first-team staff, players and everybody at Thorp Arch during what I feel is a particularly exciting time for the club. “I spent four-and-a-half fantastic years here prior to joining Sheffield Wednesday, so I am well aware of the potential of this huge club and the expectation level of the supporters. “During my previous time here,

Liam Bridcutt insists he is "100 per cent ready" to go straight into action if called upon at QPR this weekend after completing his emergency loan move from Sunderland.
The midfielder became Steve Evans’ first United signing on Thursday after being heavily linked with the club over the past month. Bridcutt is yet to feature for Sunderland this season, instead picking up game time with the Black Cats’ Under-21s side, but he feels prepared to make his debut this weekend if called upon at Loftus Road. “I feel 100 per cent ready,” he said. “I’ve been playing reserve games at Sunderland and I’ve been keeping myself fit. “I’ve been doing extra work and I don’t think my fitness will be a problem. “It’s entirely up to the manager - I don’t expect to go straight into the team, I have to earn that right. “I know we’ve got a good squad and it’s the manager’s decision if he feels I’m ready to go in.”
He added: “It’s been difficult for me – not getting the games that I needed and wanted at Sunderland. “This is a brilliant opportunity for me to come and play as many games as I can. “I know that the expectations here are high – it’s a very good club. The fans expect a lot. “It’s a big club that I want to do well for.” United beat off competition from a number of Championship rivals to secure Bridcutt’s services, and the midfielder says that Evans’ enthusiasm to bring him to Elland Road was a key factor in making the decision. “A few things came up a few weeks ago and the club (Sunderland) spoke to me saying that Leeds were interested in taking me on loan,” he said. “At the time I had interest from a few other clubs, but Steve rang me and said it was a great opportunity for me to come and play. I think it’s the right move for me. “It’s been on and off for the last few weeks now. I’ve had a few other options, but from speaking to the manager he’s given me the confidence to come here and show what I can do. “When the manager shows so much interest in you and puts so much faith in you, you always want to repay that with your performances.
That is one of the main reasons I have come here. “He’s given me a good opportunity to come and play and hopefully I can do that.”

På tide med en ny rykte-tråd. Etter kampen mot Rotherham begynner ryktebørsen for fullt og plutselig er vi i gang med en ny sesong på Elland Road 8 eller 9 August.

Redfearn sier på pressekonferansen før Rotherham kampen at han har en liste med spillere han kunne tenkt seg hvis han får fortsette. Redders mener at vi må forsterke stallen med 4-5 nye spillere av kvalitet.

En spiss?
To vinger?
En sentral midtbane?
En stopper?

Etter en "bedriten" sesong så er ikke alt svart, men vi trenger å forsterke på de riktige plassene. Måtte ryktene florere! Happy silly season!

Når Henry Winter en høyt respektert journalist skriver dette om Leeds United og Lucy Ward samtidig takker han for det så mener jeg at denne artikkelen kanskje forteller sannheten:

Alarm bells ring at Leeds United as cowardice and anarchy undermine Neil Redfearn and his talented graduates
Popular manger who has done so much with his partner to nurture a fine crop of youngsters such as Lewis Cook is being destabilised under president Massimo Cellino.

There is a couple in Yorkshire fighting for the soul of English football. The Leeds United head coach, Neil Redfearn, and his partner Lucy Ward, head of welfare and education at the club’s academy, are good people, staying stoic in stressful circumstances while continuing to do vital jobs with a real passion, namely developing the next generation of English talent.
The awards season is in full swing and if there were any justice in the game then Redfearn and Ward would be acclaimed for their selfless graft.

The Football Association chairman, Greg Dyke, attended the Football League shindig on Sunday at the Brewery in London when a combined Redfearn-Ward success story, the tough, skilful 18-year-old midfielder Lewis Cook was named Championship Apprentice of the Year.

Dyke has spent the past 18 months riding his England Commission hobby‑horse across the land, campaigning for clubs to nurture more English prospects like Cook, ultimately improving a weak national team. He watched as a highlights package captured the fearless teenager in action, driving through opposing teams, creating chances and then listened as the film heard from Redfearn and Ward. They spoke with almost parental pride of a player noted for community contributions as well as footballing potential.
At Thorp Arch, Ward cultivates apprentices like Cook who understand their duty to club, team-mates and profession. This is what Dyke seeks, responsibility-taking adults as well as aspiring internationals. Ward’s delight in Cook’s award ran through her instant tweet at the news:

A popular figure at Elland Road, the former Leeds United Ladies player, who even played and scored in Lucas Radebe’s testimonial, has a long track record of guiding youngsters, some of whom may be homesick, going through the usual teenage angst, dealing with school issues, as well as fretting over whether they will make it in the fiercely competitive professional game. She helped steer James Milner and Fabian Delph in the right direction, onwards and upwards, towards England. Now Cook seeks to follow them, having benefited from Ward’s benign supervision.

Redfearn, who brought some welcome sanity and stability to the Leeds madhouse on being appointed in October, knew Cook’s class from his time running the academy and had the knowledge and confidence to give the youngster greater first-team exposure and responsibility.
On receiving his award, Cook immediately voiced a debt of gratitude to Redfearn. Others also have much to thank the 49-year-old Yorkshireman for. Alex Mowatt, 20, Sam Byram, 21, and Charlie Taylor, 21, have all featured prominently under Redfearn. Their emergence was also facilitated by Ward. Redfearn and Ward are fundamental to Leeds’ well-being and also to the national set-up. Cook, Mowatt, Byram and Taylor have all been called into England age-group squads at some point.

What should be an uplifting narrative, a famous English club being revived by a couple who care, building around home-grown flair, helping the national cause, has sadly lurched towards anarchy because of the club’s controversial president, Massimo Cellino.
As Dyke and his beloved commission focus on constructing (much-needed) 3G pitches, tightening (lax) work-permit regulations and increasing home-grown quotas, the FA also needs to confront the problem of owners like Cellino, who is damaging national interests.

It is impossible to escape the suspicion that Redfearn is being undermined from within. Since being appointed head coach with the remit of rescuing a relegation-threatened team, Redfearn galvanised the players, organised them, and they reached 52 points with seven games remaining. Since then they have lost five on the spin partly because of inexplicable off-field defeats. Redfearn’s trusted assistant, Steve Thompson, was suspended without explanation on April 2, a decision “undermining” the head coach in Redfearn’s view. He now has to do the “BBC” work, putting out the balls, bibs and cones, setting up training at Thorp Arch. Redfearn is being isolated and demeaned at a time when English football is crying out for strong English managers like him who back English youth.

Last Friday saw the continuation of the cowardly undermining of one of the most respected men in the English game. Six players associated with Cellino reported sudden injuries, refusing to travel to play against Charlton Athletic, a “freakish set of events” in Redfearn’s appraisal. Leeds issued a statement saying their absence was all on legitimate medical advice, and Cellino defended himself, but the fans were unconvinced. Is Cellino jealous of Redfearn’s popularity?

The talk amongst those professionals who did report for duty was of their admiration for Gaetano Berardi, the Swiss who could have been in that Cellino clique and has genuinely been carrying injuries but turned up and sat on the bench at the Valley. Berardi’s presence condemned the others.
“The Championship is a tough division and that’s if you’ve got all your staff in place and all your players onside and everything going in the right direction,’’ Redfearn told Yorkshire Radio. “When not [got everything going in the right direction] it’s near-on impossible.” With his contract expiring this summer, Redfearn is likely to leave Elland Road, confirming Cellino’s reputation in Italy as a “mangia-allenatori” (manager-eater). Such an outcome would be desperate for Leeds, another lurch in the direction of soullessness and lawlessness. Losing a manager prepared to give English youth its head would similarly be a setback for the national game. Would Ward follow her partner? That would be another huge loss.

Cellino is banned from influencing events at Elland Road following a yacht-related tax infringement in Italy. Nobody knows if he was behind Thompson’s exit or the antics of the Leeds Six. Even if Cellino were, and there is no proof, the attitude of the Football League is that as long as an exiled owner does not flaunt his continued involvement, it will take neither offence nor action. Keep quiet and carry on.

Transposed to a baseball park, the Redfearn-Ward story could easily be turned into a classic Hollywood morality tale with homespun hero and heroine battling the odds to foster the future despite the meddling of an owner from out of town. (Cellino’s nationality is actually irrelevant; there are some wretched English owners out there as supporters of Blackpool and Newcastle United will attest.)
The story looks to be heading for a sad ending. The clock ticks on Redfearn’s short reign. The alarm bells will then ring even louder at Elland Road if Cellino considers cashing in on those kids, those like Cook nurtured by two honest, hard-working people, Redfearn and Ward.

Leeds United can confirm the signing of Catania striker Edgar Cani on loan for the remainder of the 2014/15 season, subject to international clearance.
Cani, an Albanian international, becomes United’s third signing of the January transfer window following the arrivals of Sol Bamba and Granddi Ngoyi.

The 25-year-old has featured 14 times for Catania in Serie B this season, scoring three goals for the Italian side. Cani has spent the majority of his career in Italian football and progressed through the ranks at Pescara before moving to Palermo in 2008. His three-year stay at Palermo was largely spent out on loan, though, and he departed for Polish outfit Polonia Warsaw in 2011.

 It was there where he had his most productive spell in front of goal, scoring 11 times in 31 appearances, before returning to Italy with Catania in 2013.

 The striker will wear the number 10 shirt after the Football League permitted Granddi Ngoyi to swap to the vacant number six shirt.
