Diego Flores confirms Marcelo Bielsa will be in Sydney with Leeds United - Leeds Live

Leeds United assistant coach Diego Flores is due to face the press following his side's pre-season friendly with Manchester United.

Flores is standing in for head coach Marcelo Bielsa to run the rule over the 4-0 friendly defeat to Manchester United, as the club continued their pre-season preparations in the first match of their tour Down Under.

Leeds fell behind to an early Mason Greenwood goal, before Marcus Rashford doubled the Red Devils' advantage, just as Leeds began to grow into the game. Phil Jones added a third after the break when Manchester United made 11 changes at the break, with Anthony Martial netting a fourth from the penalty spot.

Follow every question and answer from Flores an the Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer right here.

All over

Not quite the Bielsa blockbuster we were expecting, but in true Bielsa fashion we have been told he is busy doing his post-match analysis.

Concussion?

Yes and dizzy. Best decision was to keep him out and not take any risks.

14:55Beren Cross

Better with the other players here?

I think so, but for us the result is not the goal, it is the first match in the league, that’s part of the process. That’s why Marcelo chose the players he did.

14:54Beren Cross

Here's Flores

Thoughts on the performance?

Difficult match. They have different quality in players. They play better than us. We had some moments we couldn’t score, but at the end, they were superior to us.

14:52Beren Cross

Still waiting on Bielsa

Understand he’s still doing his post-match analysis. Diego Flores may be stepping into the breach.

14:31Beren Cross

Solskjaer finished - waiting on Bielsa

Hoping he does turn up. Not normally the second boss in.

14:27Beren Cross

Lukaku missed sessions

Missed two chances to play. Important to get everyone fit and they hope to have him back soon.

No suggestion he’s out of favour...

14:25Beren Cross

Do you just 'know' a Man Utd player when you see them?

He’s a natural. When he takes penalties and free-kicks with both feet, it’s what you call 50-50. You see a talented boy there who has every opportunity to make it as a Man Utd player. He’s going to grab his chance because he’s got everything he needs.

14:24Beren Cross

Solskjaer first

Asked about Greenwood.

We’ve been delighted with the goal he scores. Important for him to get that. Capable of goals like that. A weight off his shoulders. He’s going to be a very good player.

Welcome...

Hello everyone and welcome to our live coverage of Marcelo Bielsa’s post-match press conference.

The Leeds United head coach is due to speak following today’s pre-season friendly against Manchester United in Perth.

We’ve not heard from Bielsa since the play-off defeat to Derby, so this should be good.

Stay tuned for updates.

Angus Kinnear makes a Kalvin Phillips promise as he and Andrea Radrizzani face Leeds United fans - Leeds Live

Leeds United’s three most senior figures, Andrea Radrizzani, Victor Orta and Angus Kinnear, face the club's fans in Perth this afternoon.

We will bring you live coverage below of everything the three main men at Elland Road say in their question and answer session with fans at Cottesloe Beach Hotel.

If the session is anything like that which executive director Paul Bell faced on Monday, the bosses are in for a grilling on everything about how the club is run.

Transfers, naturally, are expected to dominate proceedings, but so too will the futures of Kalvin Phillips an Kemar Roofe, prized assets with contracts running down.

Stay with us below as we bring you blow-by-blow updates from the session in Perth, hours before the match with Manchester United at Optus Stadium.

This did not turn out as planned

No fan questions and Victor Orta will not be taking to the stage. He was called back to the hotel by Marcelo Bielsa at the last minute. Shame. Apologies for the lack of end product.

07:25Beren Cross

Kinnear on Phillips

We want to keep our best players. We want to keep Kalvin. We are talking about a new contract and we are very clear we want him to play in the Premier League with Leeds United.

07:24Beren Cross

Man Utd rivalry

It’s rooted in history back hundreds of years before people were playing football. Last night at an event with Bryan Robson and Denis Irwin. You could tell it really mattered to them. They were adamant in saying this isn’t a friendly.

07:21Beren Cross

Background on Leeds?

Strange, basic question, but Kinnear gets the fans happy by saying it’s the biggest club he’s worked with.

07:19Beren Cross

Kinnear on Costa

We’ve signed a very special player in Costa. Believes he will be one of the best players in the division. People questioning Radrizzani’s investment should look at the money spent on Costa.

Expecting breakthrough years for younger players. McCalmont gets a name check. Clarke and Harrison had great years last season.

07:18Beren Cross

Kinnear speaking now

Again, there is a master of ceremonies speaking to Kinnear, not the fans asking the questions. Talking about Bielsa being in town now and how every focus has been on the players since they have been here.

Reaffirms Bielsa is the most important signing of the summer. Bielsa was clear from the start he had unfinished business.

07:16Beren Cross

Radrizzani has said a few words

Hoping this is going to be the question and answer session we were promised. Radrizzani has only said a few words for now, with the fans very, very vocal in the audience here.

Beren Cross

Welcome

We should be getting underway any moment now.

Leeds United's new training ground may not yet mean the end for Thorp Arch - Leeds Live

Life may yet be in the old dog yet when the time comes for Leeds United to depart Thorp Arch for pastures new in the coming years.

The Whites are edging closer to an agreement with Leeds City Council over plans for a new training ground within the vicinity of Elland Road.

As and when that dream becomes a reality a question mark will hover over their current home between Wetherby and Boston Spa, a state of the art complex which continues to receive investment under head coach Marcelo Bielsa.

'My body's confused' Patrick Bamford on Leeds United's 22-hour journey to Australia

However, speaking to fans at an event in Perth, Australia on Monday, executive director Paul Bell hinted the facility still had a future with the club.

“It’s been well documented we are looking at potential options around Elland Road for development, working in conjunction with the council,” he said.

“We’re now looking at alternative plans for Thorp Arch, whether we can do something slightly different there on an educational basis, but the long-term plan, ideally, would be to move from Thorp Arch down towards Elland Road.”

He added: “Not shutting it down, we might have a different use for it now. We’re just considering something slightly different for it.

“The original plan was to move lock, stock and barrel, but that plan’s now evolved.”

Bell was also quizzed on the latest situation with Kalvin Phillips, who has been linked with Aston Villa in the media.

However, Bell deferred to better placed colleagues, who will also face fans, but later in the week in Australia.

“I’m not the best person to ask that. Victor [Orta, director of football] and Angus [Kinnear, managing director] will be here on Wednesday. I don’t get involved in the football side, in terms of transfers,” he said.

Leeds United director sends out clear financial warning after Pontus Jansson's sale

“Clearly, I’m aware of all the interest in the paper and as Tony [Dorigo]’s rightly said, he’s been fantastic for us as a player over the last season.

“I think, personally, one of the most improved players alongside Liam [Cooper] over this last year.”

2 months now since the Derby defeat. We’ve added Costa & replaced Pontus with Ben White.
The squad was thin and running in empty.
Appreciate Costa (hopefully) is class but one addition, and White for PJ is weaker, Im really disappointed with this window. We’re 2/3 short imo #lufc

Centenary Square unveiled

Centenary Square unveiled
It is no secret that Leeds United turns 100 this year and to help celebrate this important milestone, the club is creating a brand new commemorative space, located outside the Centenary Pavilion at Elland Road that will be known as Centenary Square.

Curated to celebrate the club’s rich history over the last 100 years, Centenary Square will include a series of heritage focal points dedicated to some of the greatest players and most iconic moments of Leeds United.

Centenary Square will give fans the opportunity to etch their name alongside every player who has pulled on the famous white shirt for Leeds United since 1919.

The installation will provide a permanent place for Leeds fans to enjoy and share in the nostalgia of the club’s rich history outside Elland Road, creating a lasting tribute to all of the players and fans that have made Leeds the team we love.

Together with a series of granite benches that will reflect key moments in the club’s history, the front of the Centenary Pavilion will be transformed, installing a unique aluminium wall that will be displayed with the names of every player that has put on the shirt for Leeds United along with their debut date and number of appearances for the Club.

Angus Kinnear, Chief Executive of Leeds United said:  “We are excited to announce plans for Centenary Square, providing an iconic place for all supporters and visitors of Leeds to visit.

“Leeds United has created so much history over the last 100 years and we are looking forward to building a permanent residency at Elland Road to showcase this.

“Together with Bremner Square and the Don Revie statue, Centenary Square will become an important focal point and meeting place for our fans to enjoy.”

Personalised fan stones are available to order from today.
