Ordet er fritt / Bates - Yorkshire Radio intervju
« på: Mai 19, 2010, 22:39:10 »
En fra WACCOE som har oppsummert intervjuet:

Just took this from his Yorkshire Radio interview - I think they're the only ones who'll listen to him now. It's not word for word but is near enough. Enjoy...

How are things looking on the transfer front?

Having sobered up from our promotion party, it's now down to serious thoughts. Some players have left the club on free transfers and go with our wishes. Some others have been told they can go elsewhere and they should actively seek new clubs.

We have been planning who we want for some time but this has been delayed because we did not know what league we would be in. It has made it difficult for us. Some players we wanted have agreed to go elsewhere because we couldn't say what league we would be in.

We cannot exceed transfer or wages budgets or we'll end up doing a Ridsdale MKII. We still owe £1.2m in bonuses and wages to old players.

We're after a player outside the EC, I won't name him, and he wants £1m a year, I said he should think more like a third of that. These foreign players think of England and they think it's like El Dorado. They earn £300 a week in Eastern Europe but come over here wanting £6k a week. They can think again, England's not like that.

We never comment on speculation. Most of the stories in the newspapers are put there by agents who want their clients to get better wages. Simon is now back from Dubai and working on things. We can expect some news on deals soon.

Can we compete with other clubs in this league for players?

There's six clubs in the Championship getting £16m a year so it's difficult. But there's a player who could earn more money elsewhere but wants to sign for leeds that's the type of players we want at the club.

What's happening with Jermaine Beckford?

Jermaine will be leaving. We gave him an offer but his agent thinks he'll get a great deal elsewhere. We say we're not gonna bust our budget for him. I think Jermaine may regret it in the future when he's sitting on the bench in the Premier League when he could be starting for Leeds United.

How are season ticket sales going?

Season Ticket sales are going well at about 11,000. (he then slagged off a fan from Leicester who complained we weren't selling enough season tickets).

There's no games now but are you busy over next few weeks?

We'll be spending next few weeks looking at the squad, briefing the backroom staff, and expanding scouting networks. Also, we've got to spend a lot of money on other things. We have to spend £100,000 on painting steel girders on the East Stand because when it was built they put the wrong paint on and if we don't we can't open the East Stand. There's rabbits digging holes at Thorp Arch so we've got to spend money on a fence to stop the rabbits getting in. We're also improving computer system, even though we have the best in the country. We've put new six toilets in the Kop for women because we had complaints about them. There are no more deals on East Stand boxes, "we don't do deals at Leeds United". We're also negotiating beer prices.

How did the players enjoy the trip to Dubai?

The players went to dubai had a great time, players behaved themselves. Players thought they'd get a longer holiday because of the volcanic ash but Grayson told them they'd have to pay for the extra days if they did get delayed so everyone soon changed their tune and wanted to be able to get the flights.

Anything else?

Big gripe with appearance fees. I've had two players this week, both from the same agent, who want £11,000-£13,000 a week plus a £3,000 appearance fee. Why should we have to pay them extra for playing games? Those type of players aren't going to join Leeds because they have the wrong attitude.

What about the Lord Triesman saga?

I don't think it'll affect the bid. Triesman is a former communist who never did a days work in his life. He's a fool. (Moaning about Terrance Burns, I think that's the name he said). Government and football shouldn't mix. (Moaning about the government, saying FA don't do a bad job) The government should concentrate on buggering up the country and they should stay away from football. I've worked in football for 60 years and never taken a penny out of the game. I love it.

Ordet er fritt / League One Team Of The Year
« på: April 26, 2010, 10:37:06 »
Kelvin Davis (Southampton)

Kelvin Davis has played a big part in what has been a fine campaign for Saints despite their 10-point deduction for falling into administration. Less than 12 months ago, he turned down the opportunity to join West Ham, instead deciding to sign a three-year contract with the Saints.

Frazer Richardson (Charlton)

There were a few eyebrows raised when Leeds United released Richardson last summer but what has been the Yorkshire outfit's loss has definitely been Charlton's gain as the 27-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding season at right back for the promotion-chasing Addicks.

Patrick Kisnorbo (Leeds United)

The serious Achilles tendon injury suffered by Kisnorbo last month cruelly brought to an end what was a stand-out season for the Australian international - and with it his dreams of playing in the World Cup finals - who Simon Grayson describes as a 'warrior-type leader'.

Gary Doherty (Norwich)

Veteran defender Gary Doherty appeared to be on his way out of Carrow Road at the end of last season but the Republic of Ireland international has thrived this term under the guidance of City boss Paul Lambert as the Canaries prepare for a return to the Championship.

Ian Harte (Carlisle)

Ian Harte has always had a good goalscoring record but his tally this term represents the best return of his long career. The former Leeds United and Republic of Ireland international is closing in on 20 goals for the campaign which is a remarkable total for a defender.

Wes Hoolahan (Norwich)

The Norwich midfielder continues to be a revelation, operating in behind the two strikers for Paul Lambert's men. With City in such free-scoring form this term, the 27-year-old could yet break the 20-goal barrier between now and the end of the campaign.

Jason Puncheon (Southampton)

Attacking midfielder Jason Puncheon enjoyed a successful loan spell at MK Dons earlier this season, but his impressive performances didn't go unnoticed by Southampton and the 23-year-old was signed by the Saints from his parent club Plymouth in January for an undisclosed fee.

Robert Snodgrass (Leeds United)

Leeds may have had their problems since the turn of the year, but arguably their most consistent performer this season has been exciting young winger Snodgrass. The 22-year-old Scot has already reached double figures for the campaign and his silky skills on the flank have led to the former Livingston player being linked with a number of Premier League clubs.

Nicky Bailey (Charlton)

Nicky Bailey continues to pull the strings in midfield for promotion-chasing Charlton in what has been an outstanding season for the 25-year-old. The former Southend player was linked with a string of teams in January, but Addicks boss Phil Parkinson was adamant that his man was going nowhere. "He is our captain and it would be great if he led us back to the Championship."

Rickie Lambert (Southampton)

Rickie Lambert has been a revelation for Saints since joining from Bristol Rovers last summer and he has already broken the 30-goal barrier. Manager Alan Pardew has been delighted with Lambert's all-round contribution, not just his goals, and rates him as 'the best player in the division in terms of his position'.

Grant Holt (Norwich)

City skipper Holt has also reached the 30-goal mark in what has been a brilliant second half of the campaign for the high-flying Canaries. And now Holt has his sights set on Terry Allcock's club record of 37 in a season. "First and foremost, the most important thing is to get promoted and win the league, but I want to beat it," he said.

CANARIES ON BRINK OF ADMINISTRATION

NORWICH CITY are the latest club teetering on the brink of financial meltdown.

The League One high-flyers could go into administration by Thursday if they cannot find major new investors.

Financial experts Ernst Young and KPMG have both been called in as potential administrators.

The moves come despite a season in which Paul Lambert has led the club to the summit of the promotion race for a return to the Championship.

Carrow Road crowds have averaged around 25,000 as Lambert's side impress but the club's 2009 accounts showed a £5million loss.

Delia Smith is unlikely to invest any more money after putting about £8m into the club over the past 13 years.

Norwich now desperately need new investment to stave off administration.
