Cellino er ute, men ikke handlingslammet..... ?
Report: Neil Redfearn wanted to sign Martyn Woolford but Massimo Cellino vetoed deal.
According to a report in the South London Press, Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino opted against signing Millwall winger Martyn Woodford despite the fact that manager Neil Redfearn wanted him.
The claim comes in a report detailing Michael Tonge’s loan move to Millwall which suggests the 31-year-old midfielder – whose Elland Road contract expires this summer – could ultimately be offered a longer deal if he impresses for the Lions.
But the really interesting claim is the one regarding winger Woolford, who had been tipped to sign for Leeds in recent days.
Leeds-based journalist Phil Hay tweeted comments attributed to Millwall manager Ian Holloway suggesting Woolford was a target for Leeds over the weekend.
Ultimately that deal did not happen, and now it is being suggested that it was Cellino who vetoed the move because he did not know enough about the left winger.
Leeds have signed Sol Bamba, Granddi Ngoyi and Edgar Cani on loan during this transfer window, but they could still have done with some additional width and Woolford certainly offers that.
If the report is true and Cellino’s lack of knowledge regarding the player ended any hope of the deal, it raises the question as to how much power Redfearn has regarding incoming transfers at the club.
