One of the Leeds sporting scene’s best-known pubs is preparing to kick off a new era.

The Old Peacock, opposite Leeds United’s Elland Road ground, has been taken over by the independent Ossett Brewery.

A popular meeting place for Leeds fans, the pub has endured a difficult few years – and even closed for part of last summer.

Now, however, bosses at Ossett Brewery are implementing changes that they hope will go down a storm with regulars and new customers alike. The pub is being given a £300,000 refurbishment and is due to reopen on Friday, August 2 – the day before United’s first home match of the season.

It will serve nine hand-pulled real ales, including a selection of Ossett Brewery’s own award-winners as well as offerings from other local breweries on rotation. An on-site kitchen will also rustle up what is being described as “good value, freshly-cooked” food, including Sunday lunches.

And, to reflect its new direction, the pub’s name is being tweaked to the Old Peacock Real Ale House and Kitchen.

Ossett Brewery operations manager Sarah Ellis, whose firm is leasing the Peacock from owner Greene King, said: “We want this to be very much a pub for everyone.

“In a sense it has two roles within the community. One is to be the default pub for Leeds United supporters on matchdays, which is a history we are very proud to be part of.

“Two is, outside of matchdays, to become a pub that welcomes all types of customers, from families to couples.”

The Peacock first opened in 1963, replacing an older pub of the same name dating back to the 1840s. It was run by the Leeds United Supporters’ Club from 2007 until June last year.

Meget godt nytt ja.  Det har vel ikke akkurat vært utvalget av maltholdige drikkevarer som har fristet til besøk på Old Peacock.
Ossett har derimot riktig så my godt å tilby, så dette var spennende!

Tasty new era on the menu for Leeds United fan pub

It has been a pre and post match drinking haunt for Leeds United fans since the days of Don Revie and Billy Bremner.

And now the Old Peacock is set to kick off a new era that it hopes will be a recipe for its continued success as one of Leeds’s best-known pubs.

The Peacock’s owner, Ossett Brewery, has announced a mouthwatering link-up with the acclaimed Spiced Mango restaurant, in Middlestown, near Wakefield.

It means that, from this Friday, the pub’s existing restaurant area will be serving exclusively Indian food.

A takeaway collection service will also be available while, on matchdays, fans will be able to buy snack-sized Indian treats such as chicken tikka wraps and biryani rice boxes.

Refurbishment work is currently being carried out to provide the restaurant area – which sits to the back of the building – with a decor that incorporates both a stylish Indian theme and tributes to some of United’s greatest players.

The pub area to the front will be unaffected by the changes, as will the Peacock’s popular marquee and beer garden.

Ossett Brewery boss Jamie Lawson said: “The Old Peacock is one of our most successful pubs, and obviously it has a unique location and special identity.

“However, we are always looking at ways to maximise revenues on non-matchdays and how to make all our pubs that little bit different and a bit special.

“The Spiced Mango is an amazing restaurant and we have worked very hard to make this partnership happen, so we can’t wait to see it become a great success.”

The revamped Peacock food service will be a seven-day-a-week operation, although the restaurant space will – in the same way as normal – be given over to fans for drinking before kick-off on matchdays.

Ossett Brewery’s partnership with the Spiced Mango follows the success of a similar link-up between its Granary Wharf-based Candlebar venue and Edo Sushi.

The Peacock stands on Elland Road itself, a stone’s throw from the football ground’s South Stand.

It first opened in 1963, replacing a pub of the same name that dated back to the 19th century.

Ossett Brewery took over in 2013 and spent £400,000 transforming it into a “prestige food and alehouse”.

Og enda bedre fasiliteter:

Over the summer we have invested in some new outside bars in the beer garden to help #lufc fans get served quicker. Hope you like them
