Luck runs out for injured Kevin
By Phil Rostron
New Leeds United recruit Kevin Nicholls suffered a knee injury in his first training session and was forced to sit out today's friendly at Nottingham Forest.
The £700,000 import from Luton, had walked into Elland Road with all guns blazing, declaring that he will be the club's "lucky omen".
But his luck ran out within minutes of training for the first time with his new team-mates.
Now the midfielder faces a race against time to be fit for United's 2006/7 Coca-Cola Championship curtain-raiser at home to Norwich next Saturday.
Also missing from the Forest clash were left-back Stephen Crainey, midfielder Shaun Derry and striker Richard Cresswell, who have all had summer setbacks. Trialist defender Hayden Foxe, meanwhile, has had to return to his London home for personal reasons.
United boss Kevin Blackwell gets a further chance to formulate his opening-day plans in another friendly on Monday at Grimsby.
