Leeds Everywhere

Interesting that Leeds United have already applied for planning permission for 2 floodlight masts. Plans show behind the west stand should we be promoted.... Could this be in preparation for West Stand redevelopment? #lufc

Planning permission was granted in March.

It was to meet Premier League regulations, but we're still going ahead with it regardless.

Odd decision in my opinion. It's £11m we could be spending on a striker.

Leeds United handed major boost with green light for Elland Road development - Leeds Live

New floodlights at Leeds United’s Elland Road stadium have been given the green light by Leeds City Council.

The Whites submitted a planning application on March 29 for permission to install two 44-metre-high masts behind the West Stand at the ground.

Premier League regulations had been mentioned within the application as the grounds for wanting to install the new lights, but permission has been granted despite failing to win promotion.

It is understood the club will press ahead with the erection of the floodlights despite missing out on Premier League football this time.

The council’s chief planning officer Tim Hill today (May 24) published a report confirming the club had been granted permission, which would expire in three years’ time.

Mr Hill’s conclusions read: “The proposed lighting will improve the overall quality of the existing sports grounds and will promote the long term sustainability of the football club.

“The principle of the development accords with the overall aims of the local planning authority’s core strategy.

“Furthermore, the proposal will not impact upon the amenities of the surrounding area, or give rise to any concerns regarding any impact upon highways safety or land contamination issues.

“In light of the above and with consideration being given to all other matters, it is recommended that the proposal is recommended for approval subject to conditions.”

The columns would be installed at the south-west and north-west corners of the stadium and rise up and over the top of the West Stand to light the pitch.

In a statement attached to the application’s design philosophy, Dudleys Structural & Civil Consultants said: “As part of Leeds United preparations for Premiership football, it is proposed to install two new feature LED lighting columns behind the West Stand of the Elland Road ground in order Leeds United will be able to satisfy the minimum requirements of hosting Premiership football.

“The lighting columns have been designed [by] specialist lighting suppliers Musco, one to be placed each on the south-west and north-west corners.”

Centenary Square unveiled

Centenary Square unveiled
It is no secret that Leeds United turns 100 this year and to help celebrate this important milestone, the club is creating a brand new commemorative space, located outside the Centenary Pavilion at Elland Road that will be known as Centenary Square.

Curated to celebrate the club’s rich history over the last 100 years, Centenary Square will include a series of heritage focal points dedicated to some of the greatest players and most iconic moments of Leeds United.

Centenary Square will give fans the opportunity to etch their name alongside every player who has pulled on the famous white shirt for Leeds United since 1919.

The installation will provide a permanent place for Leeds fans to enjoy and share in the nostalgia of the club’s rich history outside Elland Road, creating a lasting tribute to all of the players and fans that have made Leeds the team we love.

Together with a series of granite benches that will reflect key moments in the club’s history, the front of the Centenary Pavilion will be transformed, installing a unique aluminium wall that will be displayed with the names of every player that has put on the shirt for Leeds United along with their debut date and number of appearances for the Club.

Angus Kinnear, Chief Executive of Leeds United said:  “We are excited to announce plans for Centenary Square, providing an iconic place for all supporters and visitors of Leeds to visit.

“Leeds United has created so much history over the last 100 years and we are looking forward to building a permanent residency at Elland Road to showcase this.

“Together with Bremner Square and the Don Revie statue, Centenary Square will become an important focal point and meeting place for our fans to enjoy.”

Personalised fan stones are available to order from today.

More significant, although at this stage still short on detail, is that the council are due to make a decision on whether to allow Leeds United to buy the old Matthew Murray school site in Holbeck and use it to develop a ‘new world class training ground’ — an idea that has been around for a while, originally dubbed ‘Elland Road 2020’, but given the amount of wriggling on that would require, I suspect it’s had a salute badge style rebrand by now. This is the most significant sign of progress for a while though; if the council’s executive board decide at their meeting on September 18th to allow LUFC to buy the land, that’s only the start of a process that would still require a planning application to be submitted and approved.

Ting begynner å skje:

Full details of incredible plans for 'Premier League standard' Leeds United training ground and academy released

Elland Road   Daniel Sheridan    Published: 16:00

Incredible full plans for a new Leeds United training ground and academy have been revealed - as the council are set to meet to consider the proposals.

Members of the exextuive board will be given the opportunity to discuss and approve a proposal for the former home of Matthew Murray High School in south Leeds to become a new training ground at a meeting on Wednesday September 18th 2019.

The site is set to be made available to the club as a location for the club’s official training facilities for senior and academy players.

The plans would also include a community sports hub at the Elland Road site, high performance sports pitches and gymnasiums, nutrition facilities and teaching and staff facilities.

It is proposed that the training ground would be designed and delivered to Category 1 status to match the club's ambition - a requirement of the Premier League for training and academy facilities.
This would support the club’s vision of creating a talent development pathway for young people in the inner city, the report said.

The report, commissioned by Leeds Council, said "Leeds United play an important role in the City in terms of sporting development and also in terms of the city’s profile".
The 'Report of the Director of City Development' have asked the executive board to approve the proposals at the meeting.

Also set to be discussed at the Executive board as part of a separate report is an update on proposals to develop a ‘Parklife’ programme in Leeds, which could include Elland Road’s Fullerton Park site.
The Parklife scheme at Fullerton Park would feature a range of facilities for a community sporting hub - subject to agreement and a majority of the necessary funding for the initiative being agreed from the Football Foundation, which would also include a contribution from the council.

Facilities would include four 3G artificial grass pitches, a community café with meeting rooms and a new 100 place car park.

The development will also support Leeds United in their aim be at the heart of the local community and offer a close and important link with their proposed new training ground at the old Matthew Murray school site, the council said.

If approved by executive board, it is proposed that a design and cost report on the Fullerton Park scheme will be brought to the executive board at a later date.

Others sites identified for a Parklife scheme in Leeds include Woodhall Playing Fields; Green Park, Thorpe Park; Boddington Hall and University of Leeds.

If given the go-ahead, 10 3G playing pitches and one full size grass pitch would be created across Leeds through the Parklife initiative as part of the bids the council are directly overseeing.
Separately, Leeds University are also delivering 3x full size pitches and one natural grass pitch as part of the Parklife project.

This proposed investment through Parklife, sits aside a range of significant schemes the council is supporting to create and also improve facilities for local clubs and organisations across the city.

Over the last 10 years, the council has worked closely with the Football Foundation on football-related developments, such as new pitches, changing pavilions, grass pitch upgrades and pitch maintenance machinery in the city totalling over £10m.

If approved by the executive board, Greenfield Investments (the majority shareholders of Leeds United) will be offered a 12-month exclusivity option to undertake further investigative work, including site surveys, to ensure the development of the football training facility is feasible.

If this is the case and the club enter into a conditional contract to acquire use of the site, they will be required to submit a detailed planning application within the subsequent next 12 months.
This will then be subject to a detailed and full public consultation process.

Cllr James Lewis, deputy leader and Leeds City Council executive board member for resources, said:“By selling this land at the former Matthew Murray school site to support the club’s ambitions to build a new world class training ground, and with the potential development of a new Parklife hub at Fullerton Park, Leeds United will be returning right back in the heart of our city and communities with world class facilities.
“We believe this range of public and private investments will not only support the club in their aim of returning to the Premier League, it also has the potential to provide important new local facilities.
"Through the Parklife development at Fullerton Park for example, we are currently evaluating the possibility with the NHS of a new GP surgery and pharmacy being based on the site.

“If approved by executive board, we have made a firm commitment that a full consultation process with local people and representatives will be undertaken around the plans for the new training ground, when detailed plans are developed as the next stage.”

How new Leeds United training ground location could help the city's poorest youngsters become future stars

A site map has been released for the potential site of a new Leeds United training ground and academy - which Leeds Council say will benefit the city's most disadvantaged young talent break through at the club.

The former home of Matthew Murray High School in south Leeds is set to be formally made available to the club as a location for the club’s official training facilities for senior and academy players in addition to a community sports hub at the Elland Road site.

As part of a council report recommending the plans to the Executive Board, the reasons for the development were outlined.

The potential location at the new site would "help create a world-renowned" academy at the "heart of the city", the report said.

This will "create a talent development pathway which is more accessible for inner city youth" according to the report.

The report said: "This position poses a number of challenges, including the inability for all young players to access the facility and the Club’s ability to invest in the existing facility, as they do not own it.

"LUFC therefore has to be mindful of the merits of investing long-term in a facility that only has a number of years left on its lease. "

"Despite LUFC currently being the most productive football academy in the UK, it is critical that the club can achieve Category 1 status to ensure appropriate development facilities for it to continue its youth talent development.

"The present location is currently a barrier for potential young talent from the poorest wards of Leeds who may not have the finances or support to travel on a daily basis to receive training and education at Thorp Arch."

The report outlined the vision of the club is their Centenary celebrations.

The report included: "As part of that vision and the Centenary celebrations, LUFC included an ambition for the partial redevelopment of the Elland Road environment to provide new, high quality training and development facilities and a base for the LUF within the City to support its community development programmes.

"The Club feel that the current state of the ground is not fitting of a Premier League stadium and the surrounding area is under developed, with areas not landscaped and has little active use or sense of place on non-matchdays.

"This in turn means the site is currently not best servicing its local community."

Graham Smyth: Solution to betting problem of bored, anxious, lonely Leeds United teen is not more loneliness
Leeds United's current training facilities are at Thorp Arch - a site they do not own and is 20 miles away from Elland Road.

The report, commissioned by Leeds Council, said "Leeds United play an important role in the City in terms of sporting development and also in terms of the city’s profile".

The 'Report of the Director of City Development' have asked the executive board to approve the proposals at the meeting next Wednesday (Sep 18).

Q&A med Phil H.

he might have some - and it would at least be sensible for the club to chat it over with him - but it's a longer term project and I suspect it will be finished a while after Bielsa has moved on. The process is this - Leeds now have 12 months to survey the land and decide if they definitely want to but it. Then they have 12 more months to submit planning permission. There's a long way to go.

Sitat
Is there any plans to increase/update Elland Road?

If the club are promoted, definitely. We were told building work would start on a new media centre the day after promotion if it had been secured last season. My assumption would be this remains the case at the end of this season. Planning permission has already been granted for two sky-high floodlights at the rear of the West Stand. No doubt there woul;d be sweeping improvements around the ground. If the club remained in the Championship it’s tough to see how any financial outlay could be justified when the priority has to be the playing budget.

Sitat
Elland Road expansion? New ground?
@yorkshire_rebel
Should we get promoted, do you know if the club has any plans for the ground yet. Clearly not big enough now and I presume we would have to give a larger away ticket allocation than at present meaning fewer home tickets available.
@cyclingjonny
In addition, plans released last week show new astro pitches right up to the fence behind the West stand. Surely that prevents expansion? Perhaps a new stadium elsewhere being considered?

A couple which roll together here. Answered one earlier about Elland Road generally, but this is more about capacity and even a new stadium top meet the demands of promotion if it came. The plans for the new training ground do make large use of the space at Fullerton Park, but I would not rule out expansion of the stadium in the future. Nobody can say there is not space for a expansion on top of the South Stand or Revie Stand. A new stadium would be a long shot, I feel, given the history at ER.

Angus Kinnear has just announced plans to extend Elland Road to a 50,000 seater stadium.

Kinnear tells me the ER expansion plans are dependent on Premier League status. In PL they could sell 50k tickets.

Mer info kommer.

Altså, bygge ut West Stand som dagens East Stand...

The vision shown above quite clearly sees the expansion coming in the form of the West Stand being raised to the level of the East Stand. From a commercial point of view, this likely means more boxes and hospitality which will in turn increase the revenue streams of the club should it reach the Premier League. To potential investors and Mr. Radrizzani we can see why this plan was favoured over a re-design of the South Stand, for example.
Fans however will know all to well how hard it has become for the occasional supporter to obtain a ticket to home games, an expansion will be greeted with good news but measures must be taken to ensure some sections of the home support aren’t priced out by the corporate culture of the Premier League.

Synes Matthew Murray tomta ser veldig liten ut.

Leeds have agreed a deal to buy this land, while playing fields currently owned by Ingram Road Primary School on the other side of the street may also be included in the final design. Leeds will improve the playing surface of the primary school's fields and ring fence the area for use by schoolchildren during the daytime.

The training ground will be spread over a site covering 18 acres and will include high-class performance sports pitches and gyms, specialist nutrition facilities and physio rooms.

Men noe må gjøres mht PL-regler.

Phil H i går:
they need to update the media facilities for one thing. I'm also told they need to alter the dug-outs (we may have seen the last of the sunken benches - that's not Premier League standard, or so I gather). In terms of bigger developments like expanding the West Stand, that won't come immediately. But they will install new floodlights behind it.
Tell me - I've got to know
Tell me - Tell me before I go
Does that flame still burn, does that fire still glow
Or has it died out and melted like the snow
Tell me  Tell me
