Fulham move for Watford striker King
Watford striker Marlon King is a target for new Fulham boss Roy Hodgson.
King, 27, has netted 10 times this season after missing most of his club's Premiership campaign through injury last term.
Fulham are desperate to bolster their strike force after Sanchez's summer signings, Diomansy Kamara and David Healy, failed to shine.
Director of football Les Reed, who was influential in Hodgson's appointment, is in favour of a move for King - as is first-team coach and former Watford boss Ray Lewington.
MARLON KING has told his Watford team-mates he will leave during the transfer window.
The £5million-rated striker has long been linked with Fulham and new Craven Cottage boss Roy Hodgson is an admirer of a player who has scored 11 goals for Watford this season. (The Sun)
Watford boss warns Fulham off King
Watford boss Adrian Boothroyd has warned Fulham off striker Marlon King.
"It would have to be an incredibly lucrative offer for me to let any of our players go because we're where we are and we want to get back in the Premier League," he told Sky Sports News.
"So selling somebody who's been outstanding for the club doesn't appeal to me at all. I don't want him to go and that's it.
"There's been no approach from any club and I don't expect there to be any because once you say no then that's a no."

Smith: I have no regrets at Toon move

Alan Smith had not expected to return to Manchester United today without Sam Allardyce.
He thought it would be another opportunity to fight for the man who needed just an hour to persuade him to leave Old Trafford for Newcastle.

Noen utdrag fra Daily Mai-artikkelen (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/sport/football.html?in_article_id=507794&in_page_id=1779):

....Smith was ostracised by Leeds fans for crossing the Pennine divide to join United in May 2004, but he insists he has no regrets about his time there. If any player can handle criticism from Newcastle fans, it is Smith, the man handed the captain's armband before Allardyce's departure.
Asked if it was worth the stick from Leeds fans, Smith was typically forthright.
'Yes,' he said. 'I've got a Premiership winner's medal. I had an experience you wouldn't get at any other club. When the chance arises to go there it's difficult to turn it down. I enjoyed every minute, other than the moment at Anfield when I broke my leg.
'I was fortunate at Leeds. I was there when we were in Europe and also when we were relegated, so I've been at both ends of the scale and for a young lad, as I was then, that keeps you in good stead.....

Former West Bromwich Albion and Leeds United striker Rob Hulse is set to join Premiership outfit Middlesbrough from Sheffield United, according to The Mirror.
Boro boss Gareth Southgate is expected to strengthen his squad in January as his Riverside club face a battle against relegation and play to use Hulse to rescue them from the drop.
The striker joined the Blades 18 months ago - netting eight goals in top flight until he broke his leg at Chelsea in a 3-0 defeat in March and has only since recovered. He is expected to complete a £2,200,000 move to Tee-Side.
ROB HULSE reckons filling James Beattie’s boots at Sheffield United is child’s play compared to what he has been through over the last 10 months.
Hitman Hulse, 28, is back in action after a double fracture of his left leg.
And now he is up for another challenge — firing the goals that can lift the Blades while 13-goal top-scorer Beattie is sidelined with a knee problem.
Hulse said: “When you think about what I’ve had on my plate over the past 10 months, coming in for Beatts is not a problem.
“James is out for six weeks and, of course, we are going to miss him and his goals. But I certainly don’t feel under any pressure.”  (The Sun)

Johnson was on target for United in Sunday's 3-1 victory over Shrewsbury, his second goal of the season.

Blades hoping Horse joins Iron
Sheffield United boss Bryan Robson has revealed veteran striker Geoff Horsfield has begun negotiations with Scunthorpe about a permanent move.
Geoff Horsfield is reportedly a target for fallen Hungarian giants Ferencvaros.
Ferencvaros are set to be bought by Kevin McCabe - chairman of Sheffield United - later this month.
As part of the deal, McCabe is looking for player-exchanges and he has already brooked a deal which saw former Blade Paul Shaw move to Budapest.
Now with deal to takeover the club set to be completed next week, McCabe is keen to further expand the link-up and 34-year-old Horsfield could be one of the first players sent from Bramall Lane.
Luton Shelton has also being strongly linked, but reports in Hungary suggest Horsfield could be the first official move between the two clubs.

North End to keep Pugh
Stoke fail in move for midfielder

Preston boss Paul Simpson has ruled out letting Danny Pugh join Championship rivals Stoke.
Simpson confirmed Stoke had made an enquiry for the former Leeds and Manchester United man who has dropped down the pecking order at Deepdale.
However, Simpson is determined to keep Pugh at the club as he remains part of his plans.
"There has been contact from Stoke but I want Danny Pugh at this football club," Simpson told the club's official website.
"He's frustrated that he hasn't been involved of late because of other players coming ahead of him but I still believe he is a valuable part of our squad.
"They have been hoping to sign him for weeks now, starting in August.
"I made it quite clear to Danny Pugh that I want him here and I want him to be pushing to get back into our first team.
"They have been asking to take him on loan with a permanent deal at the end of it but I want him here at the club at this present time."
Da er Danny offisielt Stoke-spiller. Pris: £500.000
Kom  gratis fra Man.U til Leeds 27/5 2004 - og solgt videre til Preston for £250.000 26/6 2006.

PUGH COMPLETES POTTERS SWITCH

Preston's 25-year-old midfielder Danny Pugh has completed a £500,000 switch to Stoke City after his initial loan spell ended.
The former Leeds man moved to the Britannia Stadium on loan at the start of November with a view to a permanent deal in January.
Pugh made eight appearances for the Lilywhites at the start of the season campaign but has since gone on to make 16 appearances for Stoke.
North End chairman Derek Shaw said: "This was a transfer that was agreed by Paul Simpson and it was always the case that once Danny's loan period was up then the deal would be made permanent.
"In total we will receive £500,000 for Danny but a percentage of that will go to Leeds United."

Swans admit Feeney defeat

Martinez looks elsewhere after missing out on loan ace
Roberto Martinez has all but conceded defeat in Swansea City's attempts to sign Cardiff City striker Warren Feeney permanently.
The Northern Ireland striker enjoyed a successful loan spell at The Liberty Stadium in the first half of the season netting five goals in ten League One appearances.
Martinez had been keen on landing Feeney's services permanently, however, the Spaniard does not believe the club will be able to agree a fee with The Bluebirds.
The former Wigan midfielder has now hinted at bolstering his strike-force, although he was pleased with Guillem Bauza's display in last weekend's 3-1 win at Luton.
"It's seems as though it's going to be very, very difficult to agree something over Warren," he told the club's official website.
"We will be looking at the next transfer window in the summer for that one, so we'll see what develops.
"That means we need to replace Warren now if we can, although Guillem Bauza has taken his opportunity very well in recent weeks and linked up really well with Jason Scotland on Saturday."

Blackwell leaves Luton
Administrators terminate manager's contract

(Cheer up, Kev.)

Kevin Blackwell has left Luton Town with immediate effect after his contract was terminated.

The former Leeds United boss handed in his resignation last week as a consequence of the club selling several players due to being in administration.

Blackwell intended to leave after the League One fixture with Bournemouth on 9th February, along with assistant Sam Ellis and coach John Carver.

But, following Tuesday night's FA Cup third-round replay defeat at Liverpool, Blackwell has parted with the Hatters now.

Prior to the 5-0 drubbing at Anfield, the Hatters' administrators accepted a loan from Luton Town Football Club 2020 Ltd.

The Nick Owen-led consortium have been given exclusive rights to purchase the club until the end of February and are also likely to be involved in the recruitment of a new manager.

A statement on Luton's official website from joint administrator Brendan Guilfoyle confirmed Blackwell's dismissal.

"After careful consideration Brendan Guilfoyle, joint administrator of Luton Town Football Club, has this morning, Wednesday January 16, 2008, with immediate effect terminated the contracts of Kevin Blackwell, the manager of Luton Town Football Club, Sam Ellis, assistant manager, and John Carver, coach."
