Og Monk stormer videre:
Birmingham transfer embargo
Birmingham have been placed under a transfer embargo – leaving new signing Kristian Pedersen in limbo.
Blues have been hit after breaking EFL FFP rules following a spending spree last summer on 13 new players.
It means new Bosman signing Pedersen, a Danish full-back who has already been unveiled by the club, cannot play.
Brum are paying his wages but face being punished if he plays competitively as the EFL have declined to register him.
Boss Garry Monk will now be forced to shelve his transfer targets after previously thanking the club for their backing.
It is a nightmare for Monk who has stuck five players in the ‘bomb squad’ with a view to offloading them.
These include keepers David Stockdale and Tomasz Kuszczak, defender Jonathan Grounds plus Diego Fabbrini and Greg Stewart.
Now Monk may have to think about using the players in his first team plans ahead of City’s opener at home to Norwich on August 4.
The fiasco has increased criticism at St Andrews of unpopular CEO Xuandong Ren but the under-fire executive retains the support of Birmingham Sports Holdings chairman Zhao Wenqing.
