Cellinos formue og familieselskap:
There is no denying that there are positives from Cellino’s short spell as owner so far, but let’s not be too hasty. When we look at the downsides to having Massimo as owner, we need to look back at his family history, and try answer a pressing question: How much money has Cellino got to spend?
The wealth of the Italian family stems from the entrepreneurial exploits of Ercole Cellino in the early 1950’s. Cellino set up a range of companies which were primarily centred upon agriculture exports. Ercole had 5 children; all now form part of the building blocks Ercole made from day one.
It is safe to assume that Massimo Cellino is not extraordinarily wealthy on his own, any wealth that he has is spread out across his brothers and sisters. The vast figures being quoted on Massimo’s wealth are very likely to be way out of proportion. Cerri Cellino owns the agricultural arm of the Cellino empire, the Sardinia based ‘Pasta Di Sardegna’ which according to its official website, has 5.3 million euro of paid-up capital in its books, which values at least a proportion (if not all) of the company at that figure.
Other assets include an industrial estate in Oristano, though there is no evidence to prove this is 100% owned by a Cellino family member, or indeed its value in terms of land or its business revenue.
The biggest and most interesting part of the Cellino empire is a construction company founded by Ercole Cellino in the late 1950’s named Cogefar Construction. Details are extremely sketchy, but the company appears to have been bought out as part of a merger deal with Italian construction giants ‘Salini Impregilo,’ A firm which in 2012 made a profit of 601 million euro. No member of the Cellino family is part of the Impregilo board, which means it is unlikely that the Cellino’s are benefiting from the company’s success.
Overall, it is safe to assume that, even though it is almost impossible to gauge just how much money Massimo Cellino has to play with, it is more than likely figures such as £850m are way out of proportion.
