Redders vil beholde Austin....
Redfearn - Mistake if Leeds let midfielder leave
Leeds United head coach Neil Redfearn believes it will be a mistake if the club allow Rodolph Austin to leave during the January window.
The Jamaican international midfielder, who is in the final six months of his current deal with Leeds, has been linked with championship rivals Brighton Hove Albion and Millwall, who like Leeds, are fighting relegation, and Redfearn feels the club shouldn`t make any hasty decisions.
"On his day, Rudy`s a big asset. He was on it at Sunderland and the way he played showed what he can offer," Redfearn told the Yorkshire Evening Post.
"He`s probably suffered from inconsistency at times but that`s something for us to keep working on. We`re talking about needing Championship experience and to be fair to Rudy, he`s got that experience. Other clubs in the Championship want it. They see something in Rudy they like. Perhaps we shouldn`t be too hasty in letting him go."
Austin has returned to the starting line-up in Leeds last two games after a frustrating few months that has seen him on the bench, his previous start being in the trip to Norwich City in October.
The 29-year-old was back to his best form at Sunderland last weekend and Redfearn believes his confidence should be boosted after that display. "If he wants to stay then that suits me fine. I think it would be a mistake to lose him. He`s a real handful when he plays like he did at Sunderland and that performance should do his confidence good," continued Redfearn.
Austin, who arrived at Elland Road in the summer of 2012 from Norwegian side SK Brann, will make his 100th appearance for the club if he retains his place in the side at Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.
