Transfer guru Nicola Salerno gave his clearest indication that he will join Massimo Cellino at Leeds United yet after rejecting the approach to join Zamparini at Palermo.

Nicola Salerno has confirmed to Italian media that he will not be accepting the role offered to him by Palermo president Zamparini, commenting: ‘I do not have the heart. I can confirm that I have no accepted the proposal of Palermo. The club needed an immediate response, while I did not have sufficient certainty.’
Salerno, Cellino’s go-to guy during his last few years in Cagliari, has always been expected to join back-up with Massimo at Leeds United in order to help him with his project of getting Leeds back into the Premier League and beyond.

The Italian reports also speculate that may well be the case with one particular report by LiveSicilia suggesting Salerno is tied hand in gloves with Cellino, adding: ‘Salerno in all likelihood will follow Massimo Cellino in his new adventure in England at the helm of Leeds. And Palermo? Given that at the time the negotiations were handled by Franco Ceravolo, who will also co-ownership next Friday, Zamparini, after having received the no of Salerno, has been active to cover the box that his intention was to be covered by the former Cagliari sporting director.’

Although the football league are reportedly pursuing their investigations into Massimo Cellino, the Italian owner is reportedly on the brink of announcing the former Forest Green Rovers boss, David Hockaday, as the new head coach at Elland Road. As well as Hockaday, he will no doubt want to bring in Salerno as fast as possible in order to start the all-important player acquisitions for the club as they plan for next season.
Reports in Italy a couple of days ago suggested that Nicola Salerno, if appointed by Leeds, could bring Inter Milan goalkeeper Raffaele Di Gennaro over to Yorkshire with him, which indicates preparations may already be underway at the club.
