Newest Brighton Star st Lufc:
For anyone who saw the Fulham, one thing will have been evident before kick off; we're short at the back.
Not height wise but the side is definitely missing some cover and with Liam Cooler omitted from the side, Leeds were left with quite the conundrum.
We know that Cameron Borthwick-Jackson can cover and so can Luke Ayling to a good extent but for a 46 game season, Leeds could have a struggle on if something isn't done fast.
Having watched the game like many, one player stood out as a star performer; Conor Shaughnessy. The young defender not only dictated play going forward but was solid at the back and he even stopped what looked like a certain goal on the 85th minute, to which Pontus Jansson celebrated in front of the South Stand.
Although his natural position is at central midfield, the former Reading trainee looks settled in the heart of Leeds' defence and has excelled in the role when called upon by Thomas Christiansen, even with the soft penalty given against Bolton in which Gary Madine exploited.
Shaughnessy looks like he has opened a few of the coaching staff's eyes and could be called upon a lot this season even if Leeds make more new additions prior to the transfer window closing.
This begs the question; is the 21-year old the next star to emerge at Elland Road? The signs are their for a young player who is starting to gain some first team experience and it is likely that this will continue during the 16/17 season.
It's too soon to say whether Shaughnessy will follow the likes of Kalvin Phillips, Lewis Cook, Ronaldo Vieira or Sam Byram by exploding onto the scene at Elland Road, but he's taking every chance he gets.
A question to you; is Shaughnessy the real deal and are you happy to see him more involved in the Leeds side? Have your say in the comments below?
