Some of these lads are more than ready to replace and be better than Vieira and co. Plus many have been brought through Leeds from very young so understand the mental side of it. It’s a bonus many fans don’t see.

Leeds United U23s: Whites romp to Tadcaster Albion victory with clinical display

Leeds United under-23s romped to a 6-1 victory over Tadcaster Albion at the i2i Stadium on Tuesday evening as they finished off their pre-season preparations in style.


It was Albion though who had the opening chance of the game as forward Lamin Colley burst through in the second minute to fire a shot goalwards but Kamil Miazek was equal to it in the United net.

In the opening 45 minutes that was as good as it would get for Tadcaster as Leeds set about picking apart their opponents.


The Whites opened the scoring just moments later as Jordan Stevens collected the ball on the edge of the box and shaped to shoot but instead decided to slip in Bobby Kamwa who produced a lovely dink which evaded Tom Young in the hosts goal.

Stevens turned from provider to goalscorer next as he drove into the Albion half with a purpose and after a little shimmy doubled the lead seeing his shot take a slight deflection as it found the back of the net.

It was to be 3-0 on the half hour mark as Pascal Struijk produced a moment of class that was equalled by the finish of Alex Wollerton.

The central defender took his time and picked out a wonderful cross-field ball which hit his team-mate in stride and after one touch Wollerton found the bottom corner of the goal with a fine effort.

United were in complete control and it would only get better as the half-time whistle approached.


Dalby, who had a quiet opening half by his standards, prodded home from close-range in true number 9 fashion after good work from Kamwa found Wollerton again inside the Albion box who dragged his shot into the strikers path.

United started the second half in much the same vein as substitute Kun Temenuzhkov swept home a low Leif Davis cross from the left byline to make it 5-0 to the visitors.

Alfie McCalmont then capped off a brilliant display in the heart of midfield with what he must have thought would have been the goal of the evening. The midfielder set himself from 25-yards and curled a lovely shot past the Albion stopper which wouldn't have looked out of place on the highest of stages.

Moments later though Tadcaster went one better as they hauled themselves onto the scoresheet through Adam Baker, a loose ball on the edge of the area was met with a thunderous half-volley leaving Miazek stranded in the Whites goal.


United pressed on as the game neared its conclusion and almost added a seventh through Oliver Sarkic but he saw his effort sail inches wide of the mark.

Leeds had to settle for just the six as they completely outclassed their counterparts from the first whistle to the last with a fine display of clinical finishing in front of goal.

Leeds were an absolutely joy to watch tonight. Played a similar system to the first XI and it was about as perfect as it gets. Stevens/Rey/McCalmont controlled the game in midfield and Davis/Gotts were unplayable at times as wing-backs bombing on. Albion had no answer. #lufc

UNDER-23 FIXTURES ANNOUNCED

First game set for Monday 13th August.

Leeds United’s Under-23 fixtures for the 2018/19 season have now been confirmed.

For the 2018/19 campaign, United’s Under-23s will play home games at three locations- Guiseley AFC’s Nethermoor Park, Thorp Arch and Elland Road.

The Whites’ Professional Development League campaign gets underway with a home game at Nethermoor Park on Monday 13th August against Coventry City.

Leeds’ first game at Elland Road is on Monday 10th September and the campaign ends with an away trip to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace.

Selected games will also be streamed live on LUTV and Leeds United's social media channels throughout the season.
