Farke referenced Darlow and Byram's homegrown status as a key attribute. It's clearly an EFL rule on his mind. It asks for seven in every 20-man matchday squad. Leeds should be fine, even if a few of them move on before September 2. #lufc
https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/farke-leeds-united-transfers-byram-27439682Last season, when EFL still restricted clubs to seven substitutes and 18-man matchday squads, clubs had to name a minimum of seven homegrown players. Next season, clubs will be allowed nine substitutes and 20-man squads, but there will be no changes to its matchday homegrown quota.
Liam Cooper, Luke Ayling, Patrick Bamford, Joe Gelhardt, Daniel James, Sam Greenwood, Cody Drameh, Charlie Cresswell, Darko Gyabi, Archie Gray, Ethan Ampadu and Darlow are the currently contracted homegrown players most likely to feature each week. Pascal Struijk would also count if EFL takes 2020/21 as the season in which he turned 21, despite his birthday coming before the first fixture of that Covid-delayed campaign.
Jack Harrison, Jamie Shackleton, Crysencio Summerville, Ian Poveda, Lewis Bate and Sonny Perkins would also count as homegrown players, but Farke will know their futures remain uncertain until the window closes. Stuart Dallas and Leo Hjelde do not count as homegrown players because the former’s Northern Ireland development and the latter’s Scottish links to Celtic do not fall under The Football Association.
