Leeds United completed the signing of midfielder Mateusz Bogusz from Polish club Ruch Chorzów. The 17 year old, who has been linked with Brighton as well Itailian gaints Napoli, will link up with Carlos Corberan under 23s squad. The highly rated, Polish under 19 international, has scored five goals and assisted 1 in 19 league games this season. Too many Leeds United, myself included, he’s an unknown quantity. I spoke to Tomask Ferens, who works at Ruch Chorzów, to find out more about the sort of player Leeds United are getting:
†Mateusz comes from Ruda Śląska in Silesia. He started at the local club – Gwiazda. He arrived at Ruch Chorzów at the age of 10. In our club practically all the levels of training have passed. Certainly, his dad, who was a trainer at Ruch Chorzów Football Academy, had a big influence on Mateusz’s development. Generally Mateusz comes from a sports family. His mother and grandma played handball at Zgoda Ruda Śląska.
Mateusz has long stood out from his peers. He is physically strong, he has a very good shot from a distance and dribbling, which could be seen on films showing his goals scored in the autumn. Mateusz sees quite a lot on the pitch, he has a good pass, the ball certainly does not bother him, he is well-trained technically. Character helps him in football. He is humble, but also brave, he does not delight in individual successes, he does not complain. Football is everything for him, he always wanted to play, no matter if with the juniors or the first team of Ruch Chorzów. It is constantly developing.
I think, he feels best at number 10 position, set behind the forward. He feels good in a combination game, he creates. But he can also play more in the back, in the middle.
Do you think the move to Leeds United is a good for Mateusz and for Leeds United?
If we trace the history of Polish football, few Polish players played in England. Apart from the goalkeepers, it is difficult to indicate a player who would make a career there. We hope that Mateusz will be different, that he will manage. He has a good chance because he is a great talent. I think it’s a very good investment for Leeds. The presence of Mateusz Klich and Kamil Miazek in Leeds will be helpful to Mateusz.
Ruch Chorzów fans compare him to Ernest Wilimowski, the legendary Ruch Chorzów player from the 30s, mainly due to the similar appearance. We wish him to equal Wilimowski’s skills and achievements. Mateusz’s idol is CR7, and here – of course in the right proportions – I would notice some common features. For example, a very good shot or rush to the goal. In my opinion, the style of the game resembles Eden Hazard.â€
A big thanks to Tomask for his words and time. Seems that Leeds United are getting an exciting young player, let me know what you think!
