When we look back on the season as a whole, automatic promotion could easily have been secured had the defensive inadequacies been addressed before the new year. Of course, it took a change of management to sort that out, and so far the new manager has bags more pluses than minuses. His introduction of Naylor and Sodje, the confidence to stick with Douglas and Parker, meant the defence basically went from one extreme to the other. Whether those two full backs are the right men to take the club forward next season is open to debate. The permanent signing of Sodje, is a must.
Becchio’s first season in English football was a revelation, his hard work, and desire to go in where it hurts, belied his Argentine roots. Beckford may well move on, and the Championship scouts may sniff round Becchio, but I think it’s highly unlikely that both will move on. If a silly offer is made for Beckford, then take the money and a Simon Cox or Ricky Lambert would jump at the chance to pit their talents in LS11. As for the others, Enoch Showumni’s excellent goalscoring record didn’t really tell the true story, of a player, like Kandol, seriously devoid of any talent. Liam Dickinson failed to make an impression, failed to make a positive impression, sorry, and Mike Grella wasn’t seen enough for us to form an impression. But he has looked sharp, and is one for the future.
Off the staff; Ankergren, Lucas, Michalik, Sheehan, Richardson, Johnson, Prutton, Kandol, Sweeney, Showumni
Loanees; Dickinson – see ya, Sodje – sign him up
Ones for the future; Grella, Howson, Parker, White
Potential Sales; Beckford, Becchio, Delph, Snodgrass
Som man ser nærer de ingen illusjoner om å beholde alle "stjernespillerne.
