Leeds United: New-boy Liam's goals standard
18 March 2009
To maintain the standards of his nomadic year, Liam Dickinson has set himself the minimum target of a goal from every two appearances he makes for Leeds United.
Dickinson has hopped around the north-west of England in search of senior football this season and his priority after every transfer has been to settle in quickly at whichever club is paying for his services.
Six goals in 13 appearances while on loan at Huddersfield Town was a satisfactory start to the term, though less prolific than the four he claimed in seven matches at Blackpool over Christmas. Five days on from securing his third move of the season by signing for Leeds, Dickinson is pressurising himself to sustain his one-in-two strike-rate.
It was that type of statistic which convinced Derby County to pay Stockport County £750,000 for Dickinson last summer, though the transfer has not yet been to Derby's benefit.
Huddersfield and Blackpool – then managed by present Leeds boss Simon Grayson – were grateful to make use of a developing player on the fringes of the squad at Pride Park, who is still to play for his parent club, and he will see out his season on loan at Elland Road in the thick of a finely-balanced League One campaign.
Much like Dougie Freedman last year, Dickinson wants his contribution to be notable for its success.
"It's been a strange season for me because I've been going from club to club, but 10 goals from 20 games is where I'd want to be," he said.
"That's been my level right the way through my career and I'd be disappointed if I didn't do the same at Leeds."
