Evans joined Leeds after three years with Rotherham United with the ambition of achieving Premier League football on the agenda for the club that was relegated at the end of the 2003/04 season.
Leeds are currently 13th in the Championship and are unbeaten in seven league games.
The former Crawley boss joined the club on the same day it’s chairman, Massimo Cellino was disqualified by the Football League after failing the Owners’ and Directors’ Test.
Cellino used to be chairman of Italian side Cagliari and has been in charge of the Whites since 2014, sacking Uwe Rösler to give Evans his current job.
In an exclusive interview with Henry Winter, Evans told The Times: “I remember asking the president, Mr [Massimo] Cellino, ‘Why Leeds?’ He spoke about the history, tradition, size of opportunity and then he said, ‘One club, one city.’
“If we can put ourselves in the top ten by the end of the month, the office staff tell me there will be 35,000 at Elland Road for Championship games and could sell out for some games — 43,000. Fans are the sign of whether you are a truly big club and Leeds United in terms of support are a giant.

“Massimo is fantastically supportive to me. He may sack me next week, who knows? If I get the backing, I’ll take Leeds to the Premier league.
“I’m not talking about spending multimillions of pounds and putting this club in the [parlous] state it was in before. The president has made it very clear the spend will be controlled.â€
Cellino has courted controversy during his time in England having been banned by the Football League, u-turned selling the club to a fan’s group and recently banned broadcaster Sky Sports from accessing the stadium to provide coverage of Leeds’ match with Derby County.
Stuart Dallas has created the most chances for Leeds in the Championship this season with 30.
The club have improved since Evans took over, losing just three of his 14 games in charge. Leeds have created 108 chances since the 19th of October when the Scottish manager took charge, the third-fewest in the Championship.
However, Leeds have been more combative, winning 50% of their duels since Evans became manager – the fourth most in the Championship.
Their right-back Sam Byram has attracted attention from a number of clubs after his excellent performances over the festive period where he scored three goals in six matches and created eight chances.
The club’s next fixture is away against Ipswich Town in the Championship after they beat Evans’ former side Rotherham in the FA Cup last weekend
