In March 1974, Leeds United were stumbling after the end of their record-breaking 29 game unbeaten start to the season, but they were still top of the league when an 83-year-old fan collared manager Don Revie at the shareholders’ annual general meeting.
“Win the championship,†he told Revie, who in 13 years had won the championship, as well as the FA Cup, League Cup and Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, “or I stop watching Leeds football after 69 years.â€
Leeds United had only been founded 55 years earlier. They’ve always played under unique pressure.
