Leeds United are closing in on a deal for NEC Nijmegen’s Jay-Roy Grot, the YEP understands.
The striker is due in England tomorrow for talks and a medical after Leeds tabled a bid for him earlier this week.
Grot, 19, is valued at around £1.5m by Nijmegen and Leeds are ready to meet the Dutch club’s asking price and complete the move ahead of Saturday’s trip to Nottingham Forest.
United are pushing to bring new forwards to Elland Road after selling Chris Wood to Burnley in a £15m transfer on Monday and Grot is one of at least two who the club aim to buy before next week’s transfer deadline.
The 6’3†forward is a Holland Under-19 international and made 20 appearances for NEC in the Dutch top flight last season, scoring five goals.
Leeds, meanwhile, are considering their next move with Rudy Gestede after failing to tempt Middlesbrough with an initial £6m offer for the striker.
Boro rejected that approach for a player they signed from Aston Villa in January but Leeds are considering returning with an improved bid.
Gestede has been heavily involved in the early stages of Boro’s Championship season, scoring once in a 1-0 win over Sheffield United.
The 28-year-old joined Boro at a time when Leeds’ director of football Victor Orta was head of recruitment at The Riverside.
