EXCLUSIVE by Pete O’Rourke
Leeds United are among several English clubs chasing highly-rated Norway Under-19 international Abdul-Basit Agouda, Football Insider sources understand.
Stromgodset striker Agouda is regarded as one of the best young talents in Scandinavia after impressing for club and country over the last 18 months.
Agouda came close to joining Brighton last January after impressing on trial at then-Championship club, but the two clubs couldn’t agree a fee for his services, while Middlesbrough also saw a bid rejected for the forward rejected last year.
Agouda, who is of Ghanaian descent, joined Stromgodset from Skeid in January 2015, is out of contract with the club at the end of this year and he has turned down two contract offers from Stromgodset meaning interested clubs can land the player for a minimal compensation fee.
Agouda has seen his first-team opportunities shrink in the wake of rejecting the contract offers from Stromgodset, but he is top scorer in the club’s reserve side.
A number of Norway’s top clubs have expressed an interest in Agouda, but the teenager has his heart set on a move to England to continue his development.
Leeds are actively monitoring Agouda’s situation as they plan to bolster their attacking options in January, while the likes of Huddersfield and Brentford are also admirers of the player.
Agouda has been likened to Bournemouth’s Norwegian international Josh King for his style of play in that he is strong, fast and has an eye for goal.
