Leeds United have made three signings so far this summer ahead of the 2017/18 Sky Bet Championship season in Hadi Sacko, Pontus Jansson and Mateusz Klich. It has been widely reported that their business is far from done.
One player that the Whites have their eyes set on is former Real Madrid youngster, and rocket-booted, Samuel ‘Samu’ Saiz, who currently plays for La Segunda side Huesca.
Initial reports from Spain were that Saiz would, after current club Huesca failed in the promotion play-offs, head to Spain’s top-tier competition, La Primera, and sign a deal with Eibar.
However, in football as in politics, things change rapidly and that whole scenario has been cast to one side with Leeds United’s interest. According to Spanish source Sport Huesca, in news coming through late last night, Saiz is on the verge of joining Leeds United. They say that the “Samu Saiz case looks set to be a soap opera,†with his leaving CD Huesca “a fact†but saying it is his whereabouts after that is “another story.â€
This scenario has been added to today in Spanish publication El Gol Digital (EGD) who say in their title article on the subject that “Samu Saiz breaks his commitment to Eibar†before going on to mention that he is to sign for a club from a “lesser category [division].â€
EGD go on to highlight what has happened recently saying that Eibar and Saiz had agreed terms and that a fee “close to three million euros†had been agreed for the transfer before continuing to say “the interference of Leeds United in the negotiations has changed everything.â€
They say what has possibly swayed matters away from Eibar’s favour and towards that of Leeds United is that Leeds have offered the Spanish striker a better personal deal. EGD say that the Whites have “offered Samu a star’s salary†with Sport Huesca saying yesterday that this was in the region of €1 million (£800,000) per year. Split down to a weekly wage, this equates to a weekly pay packet of £17,000 and represents an amount that EGD say “Eibar in no case can [hope to] match.â€
With a late intervention possibly being behind Samu Saiz’s late change of heart, Leeds United fans are looking forward to possibly their second new signing of what might shape up to be an exciting transfer window.
