Leeds continue to monitor UruguayanPosted by SPORT WITNESS on August 18, 2014 at 17:59 in Sport Witness FootballView Discussions
According to reports in the Italian media Leeds United are still interested in Palermo winger Ignacio Lores Varela. The former Uruguay U20 international has been linked with a move to Leeds in the past couple of weeks but they will face competition from other clubs.
TMW have claimed that Leeds have continued to the monitor the situation with Varela as they weigh up whether to put in a bid for the player. Varela could be surplus to requirements with the newly promoted Serie A club and this has alerted a number of clubs including Leeds and Parma. The player has failed to hold down a regular spot in the first team and has made just 11 league appearances for Palermo since arriving three seasons ago.
Valera has spent most of the time out on loan with various clubs and last season he was shipped out to Serie B side Bari on a six month loan deal. The Championship side have actually been offered Valera’s teammate Davide Di Gennaro but new owner Massimo Celliono hasn’t taken this up with the Italian club. If the Uruguayan arrives at Elland he will be another player that has come from Italian football after recent purchases from Serie A and Serie B.
It also looks like Leeds won’t be stopping in recruiting players from Italy. They are currently trying to close deals for Lazio defender
Diego Novaretti and Ternana forward
Mirco Antenucci. In the case of Antenucci Leeds have already agreed personal terms with the player and it is now just a case in agreeing on his transfer fee with his club.
