Plenty of people have isolated the fact that over 20 years Cellino has gained 20m in transfer dealings.
These people also complain that he interferes with the running of the club.
They also believe he has not had any success.
They also ignore that players wages must be commensurate with other Serie A clubs, but without the fan base, matchday revenues or merchandising sales and do not consider where these funds come from..
It sounds like they would rather have an owner who says nothing and just keeps writing the cheques, building up debt - something I doubt they do in their own houses
But real facts show a different picture...
Looking at the club financial reports for 2012 ( latest I could find), they had a squad that cost 55m Euros but was independently valued at 67m Euros.
The team finished 8th out of 20.
The biggest problem is lack of matchday revenue and merchandising sales due to the small, but loyal fan base.
To put it into perspective, the following clubs ( cost in brackets) finished above - Udinese (104), Napoli(129), Juventus(265), AC (342) , Lazio(92), Parma(102).
Importantly, the following clubs finished below - Inter(323), Genoa(130), Palermo (101), Roma (172), Fiorentina (172) - relegated.
I couldn't be arsed with the others - but the had the best spend to points result in the league.
He might interfere, but he can spot a bargain. He cannot stop players moving on, but manages to get rid before they get to leave for free under Bosman via effective contract negotiations, and brings money into the club.
He cannot change the location or fan base of the Cagliari FC. Leeds United offers him something that he cannot have in Italy - a massive fan base, the opportunity to purchase the club cheaply before EPL TV revenues affect the value (like that is happening soon!), and importantly, no longer having players want to leave for higher wages. Player transfers may have been netted off into the positive, but these funds have been put back into the club to meet the deficit in ongoing running costs, on such things as paying the wages of a squad that cost 55m Euros.
He is definitely the best option for our club going forward ... in the real world anyways ..
