At this point, with his league debut against Milan in three days, the arrival of the Leeds goalkeeper seems far from certain.

The final decision will be up to president Urbano Cairo, who will have to decide whether to complete a deal already in place or change strategy and focus on an internal solution.

Mascardi is convincing: AC Milan could be the decisive test
The name that could change the game is Diego Mascardi. The young goalkeeper, arrived from Spezia for approximately €2 million plus a 10% interest on any future transfer, was named a starter by coach Ignazio Abate in the first competitive match of the season, a Coppa Italia match against Carrarese.

Mascardi, who turns 20 on September 26, has already shown encouraging signs in preseason. His performance on August 8 at the Sandro Criscitiello Memorial was particularly notable, when he saved three penalties against Avellino.

Now the most important test could arrive: AC Milan. Entrusting him with goalkeeping at San Siro would be a risky move, but it would also be a high-level test to determine whether the young goalkeeper is truly ready for Serie A. His debut would be Sunday night against the Rossoneri.

Paleari remains the guarantee: Israel is still sidelined
If Perri were to lose, Torino would still have a safety net. Alberto Paleari has already demonstrated his experience and reliability, and last season he ended up earning a starting spot.

The situation for Franco Israel, however, is more complicated. He underwent left shoulder surgery on July 16th and is still recovering. Furthermore, the Uruguayan goalkeeper wasn't entirely convincing last season.

The hierarchy could therefore become particularly interesting: Mascardi is a young player to develop, Paleari is an experienced alternative, and Perri is still awaiting a final decision.

How much would Perri cost Torino: between loan, buyout, and salary?
The main issue remains financial. The agreement between Leeds and Torino involves a loan deal worth approximately €1 million and a buyout option set at €14 million.

The Brazilian's salary is a further factor. Perri earns approximately £2.6 million gross per season at Leeds, equivalent to approximately €3 million, plus annual bonuses of up to £500,000.

This figure is far from the salaries of other Torino goalkeepers: Paleari earns approximately €600,000 gross per year, while Israel earns €1.48 million. Regarding Mascardi, there are no official figures, but they would certainly be significantly lower than Perri's salary in England.

Cairo is also looking at the balance sheet: Torino loses approximately €20 million.

The decision regarding Perri will therefore not be merely a technical one. The balance sheet could be decisive.

Before the match against Carrarese, sporting director Gianluca Petrachi explained that Torino expects a loss of around €20 million and that the club has yet to secure the release of several players deemed surplus to requirements.

In this scenario, giving up Perri would mean avoiding the €1 million loan deal and, more importantly, a particularly expensive salary. This solution would allow Torino to develop Mascardi without sacrificing reliable cover in Paleari.

Torino, Perri or Mascardi? The match could be decided after the Milan match.

The schedule could suggest Cairo's strategy. The championship is about to begin, and the transfer window closes on September 1st at 8:00 PM. The suspicion is that the president may wait to see Mascardi in action against Milan before making a final decision.

If the young goalkeeper passes the test against the Rossoneri, the need to invest in Perri could significantly decrease.

Torino thus faces a choice: rely on the Brazilian's experience and quality, or entrust the goal to a promising youngster, with Paleari ready to step in if needed.

The final decision will be Cairo's. And Milan could have a decisive influence.
