BRAZILIANS POISED FOR UNITED ARRIVAL Leeds United will be welcoming a number of Brazilian trialists to Thorp Arch in mid-July.
The young Samba stars, who currently ply their trade on the continent, will be linking up with the United squad for the management and staff to take a close look at after the opening weeks of pre-season training.
The influx will arrive on the recommendation of a talent spotter who specialises in the American market.
"We have to keep spreading our net further," United chairman Ken Bates told Yorkshire Radio. "We have seven Brazilians coming over in July.
"They've all played with top clubs in Europe at different levels.
"It's come through an arrangement with a chap who specialises in Mid and South America. He has a proven record, he has seven players in the Premier League and he wants to work with us.
"Nothing may come of it, but you have to cast your net far and wide."
The presence of trialists is a common feature of pre-season - Luciano Becchio arrived in similar fashion during the tour of Ireland two years ago - but Simon Grayson has also made four signings so far, with the promise of more to follow.
"Negotiations are ongoing," added the chairman. "I can assure the fans to watch this space, but as ever, we don't comment until something is done.
"And despite what you read in the papers, no player has turned us down. If we want a player, we get him."
