Sanchez WattBy Giuseppe Muro
Playing regularly in the Championship has moved Sanchez Watt’s game on leaps and bounds, according to the young striker.
Watt is currently on a season-long loan at Leeds United and impressed on his return to Emirates Stadium during the Yorkshire side’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Saturday.
The teenager has made eight starts and six substitute appearances in the English second tier so far this season and can see clear benefits of getting to grips with the rigours of League football.
“Playing in the Championship makes you push yourself more, rather than playing in the Reserves,†Watt told Arsenal.com. “You’re playing against men and it’s all about the three points.
“I’m enjoying it up here,
they are treating me like family and giving me a lot of confidence.“We’re a tight-knit bunch and we spend a lot of time together off the pitch. Simon Grayson is like one of the lads.“The fans are incredible and
even in our team talks we talk about the fans and it gives you a lot of confidence knowing they are behind you.â€
The 19-year-old made his first start in a number of weeks and played 76 minutes before being withdrawn by manager Grayson. Watt admits it was strange day, but enjoyed every minute of it.
“Obviously I’m going to give my all for Leeds. I’m 19 and I’m glad to be playing in big games like this with all eyes on me to see how I do. I’m glad I performed.
“Every time I play I try and give my all. I didn’t want to let myself down, Arsenal down or Leeds down. It was an odd feeling but I think I did well.
“It was on TV so I hope people see that I wasn’t holding back because I was playing against Arsenal. I hope people see that I’m giving my all, I love playing football and I want to be playing in big games all the time.
“[Arsène Wenger] didn’t come and speak to me, it’s not really the day for that. I hope I proved today that I could play for Arsenal. I gave my all and that’s all I can do.â€
