Leeds could and should appeal Byram red card Leeds United could appeal the red card shown to Sam Byram at Watford on Saturday.
Byram was shown a straight red card for an alleged head-butt on Watford`s Daniel Pudil. The Leeds defender was shown a straight red card after the assistant referee flagged for the incident with the referee following the ball at the other end of the pitch.
The assistant made the decision after Pudil went to the ground holding his face after Byram had moved towards the Watford midfielder.
Speaking after the game, first team coach Dave Hockaday spoke about the incident. "My staff said there was no contact and they were very angry.
"I was watching the ball so I`m not ducking the issue. I talked to the referee after the game, he didn`t see, the linesman said he saw something which I would have liked him to have been a little more specific than that. The referee told me 'listen, if there`s no contact or there`s nothing there then appeal` and it will be rescinded so we`ll have to have a look at it and see where we are."
Leeds have a good case because from his angle, the assistant could not see that no contact was made so hopefully there will be a camera angle to show the incident. What the football authorities should do is hand the three-match suspension currently facing Byram to Pudil for blatant cheating.
The football authorities need to clamp down on cheating in the game. They are quite happy to use video evidence to ban players but nothing is being done about diving and blatant cheating in the game.
*I was at the game and I had a clear view of the incident. Byram wasn't even close to making contact.Read more:
