For the second season in succession, a defeat at Barnsley may well prove to be the tipping point for the manager of Leeds United.
A 4-1 humiliation last season sparked the beginning of the end for Simon Grayson, but that display was a whole lot better than the capitulation to a side bottom of the Championship table on Saturday morning.
Neil Warnock may enjoy tinkering with the tractor down on his farm in Cornwall, but it’s time that he stopped messing about with this Leeds United team. Another seven changes were made from the side that drew against Birmingham in the FA Cup, with his initial line-up apparently being built around a 19-year-old who will be with the club for a month.
With the manager revealing after the game that Adam Drury was suffering with the virus that has afflicted the team in recent weeks, Lee Peltier came into the team at left-back.
However, it was in midfield where the most baffling changes were made. From the initial line-up it appeared that Ross Barkley was going to play in the hole behind Luciano Becchio, but the question was how the other four players, Rodolph Austin, Michael Tonge, El-Hadji Diouf and David Norris would slot in.
It was apparent soon after kick-off that the players had no idea where they were supposed to play, the only tactic being to launch the ball forward towards Becchio and see what happened. If these are the tactics that Warnock wants to play then he needs two monster centre forwards and pacy players to pick up the pieces.
These players are not equipped to play the game the way the manager seemingly wants to play and consequently Leeds are outplayed week in week out.
