Sommerens kjøp i perspektiv:
15 new players were drafted into Elland Road during the Summer transfer window. We thought we’d give you a two-post review of each player signed by Massimo Cellino and whether we think he’ll be a good signing for Leeds United.
Here are the first seven:Marco SilvestriIf reports are true that we’ve paid Chievo £400,000 for the 23-year-old, it’s looking like an absolute bargain. Not the biggest in terms of physicality but if he puts in more performances like Bolton and Middlesbrough, that won’t matter. I’m not too keen on the hairstyle he sported against Bolton, but I’ll let it go due to the double save at the end of the game.
Potential: 9/10.
Gaetano BerardiA player who I’m looking forward to watching, a very promising acquisition. It’s good to have two competent right-back’s at this level. Berardi is able to fill in in a number of positive, including left-back (hopefully he’s not as bad as Peltier) and centre-back if needed. It could also allow Sam Byram to push further forward.
Potential: 7/10.
Tommaso BianchiAnother Italian brought into the club, Bianchi is a midfielder with an eye for a pass. We seem to have an abundance of central midfielders, however, so Bianchi will have to keep his early good form up. He’s started the campaign well and seems to have settled into English football with relevant ease. Another promising signing by Cellino.
Potential: 7/10.
Nicky AjoseI feel quite sorry for the former Peterborough man – it looks as if he was the only player that was a Hockaday signing. If given a chance his pace could be an asset, especially off the bench against a tired opposing defence. I can’t see him playing much, given the competition and that it looks like the narrow diamond is going to be out preferred formation once again this season.
Potential: 6/10.
Stuart TaylorTaylor wasn’t ever going to be our number one, but he’s not a bad keeper to have in reserve. With us already out of the Capital One Cup I can’t see him playing until the FA Cup, unless Silvestri gets injured.
Potential: 3/10.
Souleymane DoukaraA big, powerful, explosive striker with pace is what we’ve needed in recent times – Doukara looks like he could bring all of those attributes to the table. Injury has hampered his decent start to the season but hopefully he’ll return stronger and have a big part to play in the coming season. He’s fairly versatile and can play out wide, in the hole or as a main striker, giving our new coach – whoever it is – plenty of options and formations to choose from.
Potential: 8/10.
Mirco AntenucciS
Very early days, but Antenucci looks like he could do a decent job for us this season. I thought he looked excellent against Bolton and really took pressure off the back four at times, picking it up and turning defence into attack. His partnership with Billy Sharp is promising as long as the service is being provided from the midfield.
Potential: 8/10.
