Chris Wood identifies the five Leeds players who have starred during team’s revival22nd September, 2016, 10:38 AM By Alex Stevens
Chris Wood has singled out the five Leeds players pivotal to the team’s revival.
The Elland Road striker believes goalkeeper Rob Green and the new-look back four of Luke Ayling, Charlie Taylor and centre-back duo Pontus Jansson and Kyle Bartley have been integral to the improvement in recent results.
The Yorkshire giants have won three consecutive matches and have conceded just two goals in their last four games.
Garry Monk’s side have climbed to 15th in the Championship and have secured a place in the last-16 of the League Cup, when they will host Norwich at Elland Road.
Wood, who scored the winner in the 1-0 win over Blackburn on Tuesday, has scored six goals in 10 matches this season to quieten critics who had lambasted his slow start to the campaign.
The New Zealand international is delighted at the team’s improvement during a gruelling run of fixtures.
“Sometimes, you have to find a way and when you get seven games in 22 days, it is very tough,†Wood said, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post. “But at the moment, we are grinding out wins and the back five are doing absolutely fantastic in keeping these clean sheets.
“If they keep doing that, we will win games, I am telling you. We have worked hard to get these three wins and are not going to sit and lie down now.
“This is the most important and crucial time and now we have got these three wins, we need to kick on and put a run of six, seven or eight games together if we can.
“That is what we are aiming for and it is going to take a lot of hard work.â€
Leeds’ next match is on Saturday, when Ipswich travel to Elland Road in the Championship.
