Leeds United's under-23 coach heaps praise on new signing Conor Shaughnessy2016/september
Jason Blunt has been impressed by what he has seen from the big midfield man
It may not be one of their more well-known pieces of transfer business but Leeds United recently handed a one-year contract to Irish youngster Conor Shaughnessy.
The talented young midfielder spent much of the summer on loan at the club and impressed earlier in the summer. He scored an absolute screamer during an early pre-season friendly v Tadcaster Albion for the Leeds under-21s.
Now the player has been praised by Leeds’ under-23 boss Jason Blunt, who is pleased with what he has seen from the Galway lad early on in his Leeds career.
He told LUTV this week:
"Conor's got loads of qualities. He can dictate the game.
"He is six foot three, six foot four and he is another one who will be really good alongside some of the young players we've got."
The physicality of the young Irishman is certainly an impressive aspect of his game. He has however suffered an early injury, and will be hoping to swiftly put that behind him at Leeds.
Shaughnessy, who is the brother of St Johnstone left-back Joe Shaughnessy, was released by fellow Championship club Reading this summer after four years at the Berkshire club.
Leeds United will be hoping they have seen something in the rangy midfield operator that their Championship rivals have not – and perhaps uncover a gem this season.
