Job Done On The Pitch, Now It’s Time For The Hard Work To Come Off ItBy Charlie Sopp on August 20, 2017 0 Comments
Andrea Radrizzani was delighted to see the win and performance in Sunderland yesterday and he will be enjoying the start to the season under Thomas Christiansen, eight points from twelve in the opening four games and an easy passage into the next round of the League Cup. However, we have no fit strikers and £20 million plus to spend, and we need to do it very well, and very fast.
There are plenty of options that we can afford, and could replace Chris Wood. This next 10 days will determine where we are going to end up come May. We don’t have a goalscorer in the team at the moment although Caleb Ekuban did look good, whether he will get the goals required we don’t know. Marcus Antonsson has been loaned out to Blackburn Rovers in League One but he wasn’t good enough anyway and Souleymane Doukara isn’t in the plans, he didn’t even make the bench yesterday and that left us with no striker on the bench. Could one of the new youth signings be pulled into the squad on Tuesday in the cup? We face Nottingham Forest in less than a week and we can’t go into that game with no fit strikers in the squad. Chris Wood left us high and dry last night and the Ekuban injury made what he did even worse.
We were very good yesterday, we didn’t have the option to play long ball so we didn’t. The midfield pounced on loose balls and fed balls to our outlets wide, both wingers and full-backs. Luke Ayling and Ezgjian Alioski linked up well down the right and Samu Saiz pulled the strings in behind Caleb Ekuban. Leeds and Andrea Radrizzani now have to spend the money they we are getting for Wood (and Taylor) on not just one, but two options in the forward ranks. Nelson Oliviera, Nahki Wells and Jordan Rhodes have all been discussed and according to Joe Rawson we have already submitted a bid for Preston striker Jordan Hugill, and he expects it to be accepted. We need to make some quick progress this week, signings need to be made and if we try cheap options when we have just sold a player for nearly £20 million it wouldn’t be the “intent†we all have heard about and have got excited about.
