Having gone through our recent, slightly rocky run of form, you might expect my analysis to be a little more conservative or concerned, but mid-week's (season-matching) 3-2 home win vs. Millwall kept us 2 points ahead of last year's fixture-by-fixture tally (from 2 additional draws to date).
As i mentioned in the last update, by the end of the Brentford match in a couple of weeks' time, we were guaranteed to be between 1 point behind and 14 points ahead of last season's total, and off the back of an undeserved QPR defeat and an impressive Millwall revival, I can now report that by the close of game week 32, having lost these next 3 fixtures last time out, we are guaranteed to be between 2 and 11 points ahead of last season's 53 point tally.
While the lack of Phillips for the next 2 games remains something of a concern, you'd like to think that this team can manage to avenge the season-low malaise vs. Wigan, and that it is even capable of going and taking points off Forest and Brentford, much as plenty will no doubt be riding on those matches. Certainly anything we manage to get in these 3 games represents a bonus leg-up in providing a strong platform going into the last 14 games.
That said, as you can see from the below, we did particularly well last year in the fixtures comprising our last 5 games this season, and from weeks 33 to 46, our average PPG in like-for-like fixtures was 2.14—so anything we can do to take a little pressure off those would be most helpful. Currently, if we match last season's fixtures' remaining results, we'll end up on 85 points, while if we match our current average PPG, we'll get to 87.
