Rumours abound that some of the players are not getting paid. Whether they deserve to be paid on the evidence of today is open to question, but it does further worry one over the financial affairs at the club, once again. A further rumour was that with only five days to go before the Leicester game the club, still without a match sponsor, were ringing round offering match sponsorship at a knockdown price.
Nearly five weeks have elapsed since the removal of Kevin Blackwell as manager of Leeds United. We appear no nearer to finding a successor, the caretaker manager is clearly not the man for the job even in the short term. His track record already is something of an embarrassment, and with United adrift of the teams above the relegation places, the need for "new blood" becomes more urgent by the day.
Our chairman is doing us no favours, the silence or lack of communication coming out of the club is giving supporters little hope. He has managed to fall out with the local newspaper, the YEP, for years, both in the past, and in the future, a fervent supporter of all things Leeds United, and all because the editor has dared to question some of the decisions made by Bates. The players have also apparently been hurt by some of the criticism from articles written about them, and appear to be avoiding communicating with the paper. All they and Bates are doing, is alienating themselves from the fans. The fans read the YEP, and expect to find out things via their local rag, and whilst I can understand the sensitivity that comes with negotiations with prospective managers, that obviously can't be reported, hints that things are happening would send the right message to supporters, and may even encourage a few more through the doors to those ever increasing banks of empty seats down Elland Road way.
Bates' programme notes have been a source of embarrassment for some time now, who gives a toss about his own personal vendettas with national newspapers, or with Chelsea, or even with Mr Levi, we want to know what he is doing about the future of this ailing football club, rather than reading of yet another loyal supporter being criticised for daring to run a supporters club, and not one of his pathetic members clubs.
