THE APPOINTMENT of Marcelo Bielsa has understandably dominated the Leeds United headlines of the last few weeks.
But the man in charge isn’t the only thing that has changed at Elland Road this summer, with work now well under way on United’s Bremner Square project.

UNITED MESSAGE: Some of the 6,000 personalised bricks.
Around 6,000 personalised bricks bought by fans over the last six months or so are currently being laid around the base of the landmark Billy Bremner statue at the stadium.
The project is being carried out by sports marketing company Your Tribute Limited and Otley-based Yorkshire Pro Paving and Groundworks.
And yesterday fans were told to expect a visual treat when they pay their first visit to Bremner Square at the start of the new season.
Kevin O’Brien, from Your Tribute Limited, said: “We have got two thirds of the stones down at the moment but the big thing happening over the next few days is the grey granite going around the statue steps and rises, with some of those pieces having iconic quotes on them from Billy Bremner himself. What people will probably forget when they come down and see it for the first time is how tired this area looked. There were lots of concrete pieces broken and damaged, so with this granite coming in we are giving it a new lease of life. The whole area will feel radically different.â€
Tom Armitage, from Yorkshire Pro Paving, said: “I’m 38 years old and I remember the statue going up 20 years ago. I thought it was iconic then, so now to be asked to revamp it is massive for us, it means a lot. I have been a Leeds supporter since I was a toddler, I have had a season ticket for the last 10 years and I am now bringing my kids through – I have three boys and they have season tickets. We have all got our full attention on this – it’s our Rolls-Royce of jobs, definitely.â€
Bremner Square will also feature large stones dedicated to 10 United legends, with John Charles, Eddie Gray and Gordon Strachan among the players picked for the honour in a public vote held earlier this year.
The installation of all 6,000 fan-purchased bricks is due to be completed before United’s first home game of the season on August 5. Bricks can still be bought for a second installation stage that should take place before Christmas. For further information, visit:
