Bruce blasts poor Blues showing

Birmingham manager Steve Bruce felt Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Hull was his side's worst display on their travels this season.
Although Bruce's men remain third in the Championship, Bruce could not conceal his disappointment at the listless nature in which his players surrendered.
Dean Windass proved the visitors' nemesis with a well-taken opening goal after 10 minutes and a second-half penalty.
Although Birmingham were left chasing the game after Radhi Jaidi's dismissal for a professional foul on Stuart Elliott when 1-0 down, they were poor and never looked like breaking down Hull's rejuvenated back four.
"It was a very, very disappointing afternoon," said Bruce. "We never really fully recovered from the sloppy start and I have no complaints with the sending-off - we all know the rules.
"We are usually rock-steady (at the start of games) but unfortunately we struggled.
"It's difficult enough with 11 men let alone going down to 10. And at 1-0 down with us pressing forward, we left gaps all over the place - it was not our day.
"That was possibly our worst performance away from home this season and everything seemed to conspire against us."
Having slipped to a defeat against a Hull side in the relegation zone at the start of the afternoon, Bruce recognised his team's inability to see off clubs who are at the wrong end of the table.
He added: "That's something we'll have to look at - maybe it's a mental thing - and we'll have to address it by Tuesday (at home to Leeds).
"It's nip and tuck at the top and hopefully we'll be in the mix in two months.
"It was a poor performance but we usually get a good response so I'm looking forward to Tuesday."
Hull first-team coach Steve Parkin highlighted the Tigers' strength of character in following a 3-0 drubbing at Barnsley on Tuesday.
"The important thing was not only to bounce back but to put on a performance that we felt was acceptable to everyone at the club," said Parkin.
"They have done that with some aplomb. They were committed, determined and played some good stuff.
"We were disappointing on Tuesday but we gave bad goals away and have worked tirelessly to get a clean sheet here.
"The players have deserved a clean sheet and deserve credit for that."
Parkin also reserved special praise for former Arsenal star Ray Parlour, who teed up Windass for the opening goal and was excellent throughout.
"Ray has come in and a few people have questioned his age, but he has played and won trophies at a far higher level than this," he added.
"He has time and composure on the ball and Hull fans will be very pleased with his performance."

- tidvis betydelig bedre spill

Cressie: It's now or never

------------
"We can't keep coming out with excuses. It's not good enough and we're still bottom of league. That's all that matters."
Quote By : United striker Richard Cresswell

--------------

Richard Cresswell today admitted Leeds United's season had reached a do-or-die stage after another deflating defeat to Wolves at Molineux.
United were beaten 1-0 by a late goal from Michael Kightly on Saturday, keeping Dennis Wise's side at the bottom of the Championship for the fourth week running, and Cresswell delivered an open warning to his Elland Road team-mates by insisting the time for excuses and promises had passed.
Leeds have been pinned to the foot of the division since their 2-1 win at Hull City on January 30, and Saturday's loss to Wolves – their 21st defeat of an imploding league campaign – extended their run without a victory to three matches.
The gap between United and safety has increased to four points with 12 games remaining, although the club's woeful goal difference is likely to count against them while the lower region of the division remains tight.
Wise's players were comprehensively outclassed by Wolves, who took until the 76th minute to settle the fixture but could have scored several times, and Cresswell's first-half header, pictured right, which bounced over the crossbar from close range was a rare threat to Wanderers goalkeeper Matt Murray.
United's schedule has become relentless and the club will travel to Birmingham City tomorrow night just 72 hours after their energy-sapping clash with Wolves, but Cresswell admitted Leeds cannot afford to leave St Andrews without a positive result.
"It's big game for us now, as they all are," he said. "We need to start winning games to get us out of this mess.
"We can't keep coming out with excuses. It's not good enough and we're still bottom of league. That's all that matters.
"But you've got to keep believing and I'm a person who never gives in. I won't give in while I'm on the pitch with that shirt on.
"It hasn't happened for us this year but when I look at the players who are in our squad I know there's a good chance we can turn it on for the run-in.
"I'm still confident and I will be until the last game."
Cresswell's chance was one of only a handful of clear opportunities created by United, and Murray's excellent save from Eddie Lewis in the 88th minute denied United what would have been a fortuitous point.
But Cresswell said: "It's hard to swallow. We put a lot of effort into it and if my header had gone in then I think we'd have gone on and won the game.
"I chucked myself at it and got something on the ball. When I got up I was expecting to see it in the back of the net, but the ball bounced over the bar.
"People say you make your own luck but sometimes you do need a little bit to come your way.
"We're all feeling disappointment because we gave as good as we got. To come away with nothing is hard to take."
United's assistant manager, Gus Poyet, maintained a positive outlook at the final whistle, but agreed with Cresswell that Leeds could not longer afford to rely on blind hope.
Poyet said: "We're running out of games so it's now or never. If we don't put it right soon, it's going to be impossible.
"Now it's not about fitness or technical ability. It's about what is in your head. It's up to us to be psychologists, to convince the players that they have to keep going.
"We have to keep believing until the last minute of the last game.
"We keep promising that we're going to do it – now let's do it.
"It was 50-50 (against Wolves) – a game where the team who scored first were going to get the three points.
"But football is nice because it gives you another chance in three days' time.
"Let's see if we can do something tomorrow."

Bruce calls for rapid response
Steve Bruce will today remind his Birmingham City players of the importance of their match with Leeds United tomorrow night after Saturday's woeful display at Hull.
Bruce was deflated by his side's 2-0 defeat at the KC Stadium at the hands of a side battling against relegation at the other end of the Championship table.
The Birmingham manager said it was one of his side's worst performances of the season. But, rather than rage against his team in public after the final whistle at Hull, he chose to look to the positive and point out that they have an instant opportunity to put things right against Leeds.
If he needed a carrot to dangle in front of the players he need only tell them that victory would take them back to the top of the table.
West Bromwich Albion may occupy that spot but they crawled there on goal difference after drawing at Leicester and seeing Derby continue to stutter at Sunderland.

MIK FORSS-ES HIS WAY BACK

MIKAEL FORSSELL hopes to put four months of injury hell behind him when he steps up for his Birmingham comeback in their friendly against Walsall this afternoon - the £3m Finnish striker's first competitive match since suffering a serious knee injury.

Leeds manager Dennis Wise could hand on-loan Jemal Johnson his first start in their rearranged Championship clash at Birmingham on Tuesday.

David Healy has partnered Richard Cresswell up front in Leeds' last two matches, but Wise's side have failed to score in their last three. Fellow forwards Tresor Kandol (one-game ban) and Tore Andre Flo (fractured foot) remain sidelined.

Alan Thompson (calf) and Armando Sa (hamstring) are ruled out for the next fortnight and midfielder Shaun Derry is still recovering from surgery on his Achilles.

Injured pair Robbie Elliott and Stephen Crainey are still not ready to return and Gary Kelly (ankle) is also unavailable.

Schoolboy Tom Elliott could be included in the squad again - he appeared as a last-minute substitute at Wolves - and winger Seb Carole will hope to retain his place in the starting line-up.

Radhi Jaidi begins a two-game suspension tomorrow night when Blues face Leeds United at St Andrew's. The centre-half is also out of Cardiff City's visit on Sunday morning. It means that Bruno N'Gotty will partner Martin Taylor at centre-half with Stephen Kelly returning at right-back.

Birmingham startar truleg med dette laget:

Doyle
Kelly - N'Gotty - Taylor - Sadler
Clemence - Larsson - Danns - Campbell
Jerome - McSheffrey
